I owned a Searey. I could not believe the Seamax landed gear down in the water and survived! Amazing!. I like the fact the Seamax is a tri-gear and the rotax is completely covered.
A concern I have would be what if somehow (weird things happen in aviation) I were to find myself upside down in shallow water how would I get that canopy open ?
I think that's a valid concern. If I owned this aircraft (and I really like it so money is the only thing stopping me) I would get one of those car emergency glass breaking tools and store it inside the cockpit.
I flew in this plane with chief pilot, russ miley very nice smooth and easy flying aircraft. I am 67 yrs @ 165 lbs., I found it hard to get out of......but that's my age. his would make a younger person a very nice aircraft, in or out of water.....RUSS MILEY is the best LSA-CFI in the country. I went to punta gorda to train with him. now doing some additional training in deland with him......there is no better cfi and I am blessed to call him a friend.
These really look nice go anywhere in these things the best part is because they are LSA you can take a 16 hour course to repair them and do your own maintenance repairs and annuals. The class is only a few grand to get certified. I would like to see it around $100k range to be competitive in the LSA category right now they are 170k plus.
The ICON A 5 has NO similarities to the SEAMAX that I am aware of - other than they are both amphibians in a pusher configuration. The Ultralight Flyer
I have been looking at those, very good chance it could be one of my purchases within a year or two. I love that easy folding wing, a lot of manufactures could learn a lot from that.
That's similar in many ways to the Aero Adventure sea plane. The Aero Adventure model is a quick-build kit for about 1/3 of the price and comes with a larger engine.
How much clearance do I need to enter a Harbor? Project Salton Sea North Shore Yacht Club 9915 Sea View Drive Mecca California on the Salton Sea. What would I need to open the a anchor on the sectional (Los Angelles? Is it at a low cost to lease with option to buy.

The Icon is a copy of the Brazilian Seamax aircraft designed in the 90s, just wonderful amphibious airplane, very beautiful!

Icon is better.
If they ever get the bugs worked out, and bring the cost down a bit...
At 3 times the cost and lower performance data than SEAMAX SONNY!
