I cry every time I watch the MV 😭😭 the song is sooo good as well. IU has such an amazing voice and the acting was SOOO good, this felt like a K-drama 😭😭

So it turns out that the camcorder’s lens contains a “filter of love” which allows them to see the beauty of the world beyond the character’s internal and external appearances..
they were both so afraid - yet at the same time, both were desperate to save and protect each other. At the end, they accepted their cruel fate and fearlessly faded together.. in a world that doesn’t let them to, they stayed by each other’s side, loving until the very end🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹💗
"For those who confused to the storyline"
IU’s character is deaf and taehyung’s one eye is blind. That’s why she uses sign language when they’re eating and she covered taehyung’s left eye at the end to protect it. One theory I read, the couple represents aging people who are close to death and the cube represents the inevitable death. They were reminiscing their youth through the cam recorder which is all cheerful, bright and colorful. However, the reality is not as beautiful, when it’s time for you to go, you have to go. They spent their time together loving each other until their last breath.

Maybe when he got hurt ( blind in one eye ), he also went deaf. She could be using sign language for his sake and not for her. She does seem to be always trying to protect him . Hearing people use sign language to communicate with the deaf, this is why it just might be V that is deaf.
I think he's the one that is deaf.as well as being vkind in one eye. She seems more aware of their surroundings and by covering his good eye, she prtects him from both seeing and hearing what's coming. She would also use sign to talk to him. Just my take on it.

I velieve V is the one who is deaf, as well as being blind in one eye. She signs to him, puts her hand on his shoulder to get his attention and she appears to be aware of sound and her surroundings more. Also explains how she keeps him from seeing what's going to happen, because he already can't hear it.

Absolutely beautiful! So, here's my take: It's about the perils of having relationships as an idol. The apocalyptic world is the real world, the cube is society eating up idols, consuming their lives. I think she is mute: unable to speak out against this consumption (because she does sing during the wedding scene) and he's turning a blind eye to the reality of their situation, to everyone but her. Though they desperately cling to one another they can't live in peace. They look through the lens of their video recorder and see only themselves and their love in this world. The mocking people trying to disrupt them and tear them apart are the critics, and in some cases, extreme fans. In the end, they're unable to stay in this idealized version of their life, their love persecuted and their life is once again consumed by the expectations of fans on idols.
This interpretation could also explain the scene where they throw the vhs tapes at a wall. The wall is covered with "posts" so it could be them happily trashing negative rumors and anti-fan hate comments/videos posted online about them
I have also heard that the cube represents the prejudices (deaf and blind characers in the video) and that love overcomes them all

I saw a theory that is: they were annihilated because they weren't "normal" in the eyes of the cube (society), and became just another life taken away, the cube means the society that doesn't accept people who are different.And in the MV Taehyung is blind in one eye and IU is deaf

I'm just copy pasting an explaination I saw under another video:
The Cube represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn't fit the standards of society. Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in South Korea put masks on when they don't have make-up or when they feel unsecure or they wear hats when their hair is messy. The MV is a dystopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then they start to feel the illusion a bit too much to the point they beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Cube (society) finds them again and push them to retreat and flee again, but the Cube managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up but at least they stayed together until the end. Even if they died at the end, they loved each other deeply, it shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love each other and they can find their soulmate even if they are not "normal or perfect" to the eyes of some many others. The pile of clothes is like from Spring Day, these people died because of injustice, but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes can look very gloomy and sad, but as in Spring Day MV if you don't forget them you can seem them happy and free where they are right now...
to piggyback on this bit about oppressed peoples: the clothing pile in Spring Day (and Love Wins All) was inspired by an art piece by Christian Boltanski. he was never explicit about its meaning other than death (which i think is good, allow readers to interpret art to something meaningful to them), but several smaller piles were also divided into groups and had wooden posts with barbed wire cordoning them off. Boltanski's father also was a Jew who had to hide under the floorboards to avoid the nazis, so there is definitely some inspiration there.
The clothing serves as a reminder that each of these numbers you hear is a person, a real human being. Especially with things such as genocide or systemic oppression the numbers serve as a way to almost numb us to the pain - 3,000 people here, 1 million people here, whatever it may be - to the point where it becomes too much for the human mind to comprehend. I think this MV along with the art piece is a reminder that each of these people had a story; people they loved, passions, hopes. All wiped out.
A beautiful MV and song, IU really continues to blow me away even as long as I've been a fan of her and Tae did a fantastic job acting in this alongside her to bring that vision to light, I'm so happy with how this went (even as I sit here crying lol, happy might not be the right term).

Loved what you wrote, and agreed with what you wrote as well. Thank you. They didn't betray love in its purest form. That is what real love should be. Many have found it, but because of society's prying eyes and judgemental, hypocritical opinions - true, genuine love/lovers have to fight harder to keep their very special love.

IU produced and did the lyrics. her mvs always have deeper meaning. There's a sign (1:35) when they first come in to the place when they find the camcorder that reads " " RISE FOR ALL" ...think thats a social commentary for the oppressors and for state of world , esp. these days. Most missed that sign..cause IU and V are so captivating. lol IU can't speak and V cant see out one eye... cube is like hate/society projections.Maybe we have to start standing up for love and for others discriminated or oppressed?
I feel IU and V have seen so much of how South Korea media, police and citizens can cause so much hate, pressure and judgement that people start to commit suicides at times. IU has known least 3 close idol young friends that exp this. Also recently, in headlines. Famous Actor from oscar winning movie "parasite" had recently passed due to all the pressure of media police, even though he was found negative in his drug tests. IU was main lead actress to him in a different show called. "My Mister". What an amazing message and masterpiece, truly deserves a Award in every category.

Everyone is saying that IU is deaf in this mv and they might be right but, the thought did cross my mind that maybe V is the one that’s deaf and blind from one eye . That’s why she is using sign language, to communicate with him. I find she’s leading him when running, so that’s why I thought this. Also, through the camera lens, both of V’s eyes are ok, which leads me to believe that something must of happened that made him lose his hearing and sight of 1 eye. Idk, I might be totally wrong. I wonder if we’ll get an explanation video from IU. It would help big time ! What do you guys think?💜
