I think we need more videos like this - many UA-cam makers have very much better-equipped workshops than their audiences - workarounds for advanced results with basic tools are really useful
This is such a good point, I love seeing projects from modestly equipped workshops as opposed to large commercial floor based machines that the vast majority have no access to
Thanks for providing these alternatives. A lathe, even a "cheap" one, is not something that many of us hobbyists can easily afford. Using tools that you already have is perfect for me. Thanks for the video and your amazing work.
Mate, just flicked on to this as casual background noise and within 30 seconds of listening to you, you've earned a like and a subscribe and I'm now sitting down to binge watch what you are doing and to hell with the housework for the day - you do really interesting stuff and present it in a very engaging way. Kudos to you, fella!
You sir are a *(Master Craftsman). Plus you are an easy teacher to follow. I like how you said. If you don't have this. Well you can use this. You sir have a new subscriber. You really are a gifted man. You make your country proud.
I love this! Alternatives are so important to newbies like me as much as people with less equipment because it teaches me the versatility of tools. Also great to have some resin advice from an Australian
Look beautiful, the individual look from the miss shape is stunning and shows it hand made, I like it better than the perfect shape one's. Keep up the stunning work
That was so amazing. Wish there was a LOVE button as LIKE just doesn't give it justice. I don't have a lathe so never in my wildest dreams would I think that this could be accomplished with basic tools. Thanks Ben.. I am keen to give it a try now
Putting the drill in a vice works good too. Then use files to shape it. I have done this with steel nuts to make different things. Works great as a basic lathe.
I said to myself "This guy sounds like an Aussie" and then I checked the description and lo and behold I was right, glad to see fellow Aussie's doing something cool like this
Didn't read all the comments to see if this has been mentioned but you need to reseat your chuck and tighten your belts and you will have considerably less play and wobble in that press. Overall though it was a joy seeing you create a baby dragon unhatched!
Thanks Mate, unfortunately I couldn’t get the best grip on the timber and the force i was applying kept sending it off balance. I got there in the end 👍
I love how you explain everything you're doing and giving the tips as you experienced/learned it. 👍😊 And I think the end result is perfectly beautiful. Awesome work!
It's the imperfections that make the piece a work of art! Art is not perfection, it is a work of beauty. You have a wonderful talent! Your explanation of how to make one is great! I'm going to hit the subscribe button and see what else you come up with.
Thanks for this tutorial. I am a newbie working with wood and resin with limited tools so to see that I can attempt to make this without a lathe is great :-)
Wow! The pigment is really beautiful in the final result. This was such a cool video! Thank you by the way for suggesting alternative tools for people with fewer large power tools. This was super informative. You just earned yourself another subscriber! Really love this project. Thank you for uploading!
If I tried to make a dragon's egg I would probably try to add the head of a dragon inside the egg. Or maybe a mini dragon inside the egg. You have a really nice talent making these.
Good job Ben! I like you showing how to without machines, thanks for that! Great work! I've seen one of your vids and now this one, I'm subscribing! Thanks for sharing this, Pam
I feel like it would've been easier to make an egg-shaped mold in the first place, but the result is great nonetheless. And I really appreciate the mention of substitutes for the advanced tools, because a lot of people don't have a workshop that's equipped that well
I can't thank you enough for this! I've been contemplating practicing some art but don't want to go all in for a lathe until I'm sure I'll like it. This allows me to do just that. Much obliged.
That's a cool video mate, great way to demonstrate your process without a lathe. Egg turned out great. I'm slowly beginning to get hooked on these, and I'm gonna have to have a go soon at knocking some of these out for myself!!!
that is beautiful!!,, question? i have could a person use those pigments for an iridescent project i have in mind using a ice clear resin? thank you for the tips

i have a small workshop myself
This is such a good point, I love seeing projects from modestly equipped workshops as opposed to large commercial floor based machines that the vast majority have no access to
Good point. Agree.
Agreed! I'd love to know what can be done with a Dremel and drill and reciprocating saw. That's all the tools I own! LOL!
Thanks for providing these alternatives. A lathe, even a "cheap" one, is not something that many of us hobbyists can easily afford. Using tools that you already have is perfect for me. Thanks for the video and your amazing work.
Thanks Mate
Theres no way you free handed that! Holy crap! That looks as good as if it was done on a lathe! Incredible!
I loved how you suggested substitutes for different equipment if you didn't have the main one as well as what worked and what didn't in the process.
Thanks :)
THIS IS WHAT I LIKE TO SEE. BECAUSE NOT EVERY ONE HAS A LATHE ! VERY NICE !
Thanks Mate

It's good you have shown this method so the people who don't have a lathe can get involved in this satisfying pass time
Thanks Mate
I subscribed to your channel because you give options to people that may not have the higher level equipment. Respect.
I love this! Alternatives are so important to newbies like me as much as people with less equipment because it teaches me the versatility of tools. Also great to have some resin advice from an Australian

Great stuff, Ben. Thank you so much for showing how to do it without all the shop tools. Very inspiring, and fantastic finished piece!
Thanks Mate
Just a drill, table sander, drill press, bandsaw, and buffing wheel. Most people who have all that probably also have a lathe.
Beautiful! I love how the colors sparkle and change. Good job doing it without the lathe -- but, aren't you glad you have one!
Thanks Wendy, yes I do love my lathe!
I love how you give so many alternate solutions for those of us who don’t have all these specialized tools
Thanks James
