Always loved playing swing music, it's so fun! Although I do play a lot of swing on trombone, it's just such a great instrument to really let loose with
Im a tuba player and in a high school band i almost never hear the euphoniums despite being right next to them, i used to think they were useless but you proved me wrong. The euphonium is like a midway from trumpet to tuba or trombone to tuba.
Not everything can sound good when playing swing music though. Let's see oboe and bassoon sound good when playing in a jazz ensemble on a song that isnt Latin.
I find the comments about the Euph being ‘too smooth ‘ for jazz interesting... Person 1- So what’s that instrument there? Person 2- It’s a flugelhorn, sort of like a smooth, mellow trumpet 😂
As a euphonium and trombone player for 15 years now, I have always hated swing on euphonium. It’s fun to play but the sound and tone aren’t meant for it. I typically love your videos but this one doesn’t work for me
Its pretty much just a trombone sound but more mellow. Doesn't sound bad at all. The way I see it, the trombone is the bright, trumpety sound, and euphonium is the more mellow, flugelhorn kinda sound.
I’ve been only with my Euphonium for about 5 months now. I think I have grown exceptionally close to it. I was wondering if anyone can provide a link to sheet music for the “American Patrol” piece that Matonizz plays. It should be for the Euphonium. Thanks!
Lit 🔥 I watch constantly everyday it’s enjoyable I love your videos I’m also a tuba player and I can read your music 🎶 easy it’s not hard and I’m only and freshmen at James Madison high school 🏫 but yeah
Idk about this vid chief, it don't do it for me. I write jazz music, and I have entertained the idea of writing for a section of euphs before, but the texture of them is just way too smooth to really work. If you haven't noticed, every horn in a jazz ensemble has a bite to it, and euphs really don't. Don't get me wrong, euph is a really fantastic instrument, it's one of my favorites in fact, I just don't think it works in jazz.
What a cute comment. 😆😆😆 This video is actually not a very good representation of why euphonium would make a good jazz instrument. You could hear his classical chops shining through along with the rest of the classical wind ensemble. A euphonium in the right hands can totally shred.
Sure, it sounds good, but I don’t think anybody wants to have a euphonium in their jazz ensemble. I wouldn’t bring a bassoon, which is largely a orchestral instrument, into a jazz ensemble, so why should I bring a euphonium, which falls under the same category, into one?
While I think you've got a point, we can't just say that certain instruments are ONLY for certain styles because I think there are exceptions to this! Paul Hanson has a made a pretty good career for himself as jazz bassoonist for example
We euphoniums never get enough credit
Have you ever heard Howard Johnson and gravity or Modern Jazz Tuba Project?
yeah we never get any credit, always goes to the trombones
@@jackson-jq5ek thanks jackson
I play trombones and the euphoniums sound cool and nobody lets them play In jazz. They sound cool in mellow songs.
Amen

Trumpet
Yet my friend can't figure out how to swing...
YES! I play euphonium in my school jazz and symphonic band, so excited to see some representation!!
I love how this whole UA-cam channel is simply to show people how awesome euphonium is

Most euphonium players lack confidence because the instrument isn't given enough attention :(
@@taylorfireflameThe fact that they’re usually placed right next to the tubas and percussion might help explain why they’re barely audible.
Everyone: says comment about euphoniums not being able to do something
Matonizz: *WRONG*
Have you ever heard Howard Johnson and gravity or Modern Jazz Tuba Project?
Is no one gonna talk about the guy who almost dropped his music at 0:20
Lmao😂🤣😂
That happens to me all the time.
I played the euphonium when I was in middle school band and I loved playing it
Has anyone here played battle hymn to America?
Love the vids!!
basically everything can swing, if you have a solid rhythm section (specially the bass)
Not everything can sound good when playing swing music though. Let's see oboe and bassoon sound good when playing in a jazz ensemble on a song that isnt Latin.
Woah, I love the change up to American patrol
I come from Reddit after someone said euphoniums sound amazing in Jazz. I see they are very correct.
Love your videos
Please never stop
I love the euphonium.
best section low brass

I'm a new euphonium player my second semester for 9th grade band playing euphonium

See your point and thanks for sharing your opinion in my friend :)
I do see it as well, now that I have found my microscope. ;)
Matonizz no problem! Look forward to more videos!
Cant say much i was in a jazz class as a bass trombone and i was playing first parts and alternates to barisax so i was eather playing high or low

Dude! I learned trombone just to play jazz, and I played both Sing Sing Sing and Cottontail, when I could’ve done it on euph!
Nice!

Do a video on the power of euphoniums and tubas together
Usually tubas overwhelm euphs
What type of horn do you use? Jupiter XO?
Hey i would appreciate a Video maybe a duo with your Euphonium colleague.
Is the sheet music in the video in treble clef?
Both treble and bass
arrangement of vulga boatmen?
Euphoniums playing swing reminds me of the mr bean Christmas special where he conducts the brass choir lol
Did you very plays in the G key and the F key if yes gg man ! 😱😱😱😱
Have you done marching band
I'm the only euphonium in the top freshman band and I have a solo I'm very nervous about for uil. Is there any way to calm my nerves?

American Patrol is great!
I’m a euphonium player, and euphoniums do get a lot of criticism like, saying that it never gets the melody and is too low
What group do you play for?
River City Brass
Look up the MJT Project
Where’s the bass clef 👀💧
Sacrilegious
What’s the euph brand he has?
Jupiter XO

The euphonium is too soft sounding to be considered an actual jazz instrument. That’s just my opinion

So how does the Flugelhorn fit in compared to the trumpet?
@@brasschick4214 that’s not in jazz
