Worked in zug island steel mill ands Great Lakes in Detroit and a few others. Brought back some memories. Great footage of this great piece of American history
nice but there is more to this place than the Blast Furnace area - me 1/8/68 - 1/8/98 - in '69 get on the apprenticeship for pipefitter - i finished in ' 72 & sent to the Coke Plant because i am the youngest - there until the Coke Plant shut down forever - then back to the main shop #1 Pipe Shop - covered the whole mill from one end to the other & in between - unplugged many toilets in the mills & offices - big shots too - when this place died - so did Lorain Ohio - i was known as The Midget when i was working there - good times great memories
At age 26, working for American Bridge, a division of the U.S.S. company, I operated a 200-ton 4100W Manitowoc with 270' of boom that rebuilt the # 3 blast furnace seen to the east in this video. KB
When I was in the central labor department, we would have to go up on the blast furnace to clean up spills. That was a hell of a view then, but this video, damn, you sir have taken my memories of the view to a whole new level. Bravo. PS, back in the day, your drone wouldn't have gotten within 40 feet of those old exhaust stacks without a melt down. Just sayin.
#3 blast furnace was damaged from power outage in 2005, never restarted again. #4 blast furnace was shut down in Dec. 2008. 700 employees lost their jobs that month, myself included. God bless Lorain Ohio's Steelworkers.
Damn shame such an environmental disaster is sitting right there along the river and lake just leeching who knows what into the soil and water table of Lorain. The video is just stunning though. Very nicely filmed.

When did the blast furnaces shut down?
To be honest I’m not sure my friend
#3 blast furnace was damaged from power outage in 2005, never restarted again. #4 blast furnace was shut down in Dec. 2008. 700 employees lost their jobs that month, myself included. God bless Lorain Ohio's Steelworkers.
@@1980chevy sorry to hear that. Thanks for the info.
All of these events are very unfortunate. Thanks for the valuable info my friend.
Love it. Nice flight. Would love to fly the one near me, unfortunately it's in class B air space. Not worth the time to get authorization.
Thanks brother appreciate the support always. I hear you lol
Bro, the quality is so much better here than on facebook. Is this 60fps?
Thanks bro. I know right! Yes it is 60fps
Dam sad to see home going to waste like that I lost to koby when they came in
Is it sad to see the waste my friend but I think it is also a great memorial of the past
What an incredible waste, all the material left to rot and rust away……
I have to agree with you. It is a waste
That's abandoned
Yes it has, thanks for stopping by
