This is such a killer track. One of the flat-out ballsiest of John Williams' career IMO. And for me at least, it REQUIRED repeated listenings. I thought it was a mess and pretty unmemorable the first time. The melody felt all over the place and just didn't pop. I thought it was hard to follow too. For some reason seeing Poe so effortlessly cleared the sky of TIE fighters and then went on to rain death upon stormtroopers, reminded me of the rare occasions in Planetside 2 when a highly-skilled pilot single-handedly established something close to a no-fly zone and brought players on the ground to the point of rage-quitting.
+theunraveler Not the same in the least. Despite being made in the mid to late 1990s, the X-Wing games were superior in almost every aspect that truly mattered. -Better ship handling. -Deeper mechanics. -Better 'feel' and closer to the movies in it. -Can actually be played from the cockpit. -Some degree of AI control. The only places where, imo, it fell flat that truly mattered was the mission scripting and objectives. AI would sometimes have problems following those objectives. But seriously. Find a copy of the game. Play around with it. It was, and IMO still *is*, the greatest Space Sim ever made.
shepard1707 That's kind of the point of Rogue Squadron. It's supposed to be an arcade style space shooter that you replay over and over to get higher scores. I appreciate the hell out of X-Wing and TIE Fighter, but Rogue Squadron is much more fun in my opinion.

Heard a familiar tune played in a carnival style rendition in the newest episode of Mandalorian today. Nice touch. Williams' music is pretty much the only thing I even like in the sequels.
Every part of every piece Williams gives purpose and meaning. Not just for giggles, he translates piece to piece with motifs and modifies Melodies to truly make Star Wars the most cohesive soundtrack of all time.
I love Jedi's, but X-wing squadrons are the true reason I love Star Wars. :D So glad we got so much of them in this movie. This song perfectly captivates the heroes of Star Wars. Man, I have to admit, I love the resistance! It's basically everyone who was awesome in the rebellion (like Admiral Ackbar and Leia) into one group without all of the other corrupt politicians. And being their own vigilante group makes it still feel like they're got that rebellion spark!
This is the defining music of The Force Awakens imo. Like how each SW movie has that one track that just defines it, that embodies the film. This is it.
EP1. Duel of the Fates EP2. Across the Stars EP3. Battle of Heroes EP4. Binary Sunset or The Throne Room EP5. Imperial March or Asteroid Field EP6. Emperor's Theme or Jub Jub EP7. March of the Resistance or Rey's Theme
Love how every fan argues about the different movies quality, prequels better sequels better stuff like that, but everyone agrees that John Williams consistently delivers
+silenig Yeah, the music that plays with the Nazi and the Zeppelin, I just noticed it, eerily reminds me of this one. All the more reason to love the new Star Wars movie.
First Order Stormtrooper Commander: “RUN! Fall back!” First Order Stormtrooper: “Why sir?” Commander: “The boss music is playing!” Stormtrooper: “Oh crap!”
This is by far my favorite piece of John Williams' amazing Star Wars Collection I also played this in band. AMAZING percussion part. But I am a little biased, since I do play snare...
I switched to play french Horn just to play star wars, and my teacher then said that sense our concert is so close to the release of the new movie we would play a compilation of all force awakens songs, i was so excited. and still am
After here Mando season 3 episode 3, and the seeds of the first order is indeed been planted in yesterday's episode. I got three words for that rendition: Impressive, most impressive!
It’s disheartening especially after seeing the excruciating struggle and sacrifices to resist The Empire in Andor, only to have the New Republic torturing people, be corrupt like the Old Republic, not care about the Outer Rim and fail to see the currents of darkness amassing in the galaxy again. It makes since why Leia would get frustrated and say ‘f it, I’ll start my own new rebellion’.
Dude, this scene was literally the most peak, everything from the finn with a lightsaber vs that stormtrooper with the baton, to the part where you can see just something on the horizon, to the shot of them flying over the lake when poe is revealed alive, this scene was amazing 😍
200 years from now, when music appreciation is taught in high schools and colleges, the greatest will be mentioned.......Beethoven, Bach, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, WILLIAMS!!!!
I never knew the name of this song before today but I looked up "resistance march song" and this is exactly what i was looking for. Bravo John Williams for titling his songs exactly what they are!
From 0:15 to 0:20 Does anyone else hear the Republic's theme from the Prequel Trilogy? I think it's the music that plays when Obi-Wan sees the Clone Army for the first time on Kamino.
+CegeRoles yes! I thought I was just crazy - Trade Federation March 1:15-1:21, then listen to March of the resistance - 0:15-0:20....also Williams kind of phoned it in on this soundtrack, I hated the prequels, but they at least had pretty awesome soundtracks...I think John is just getting too old to be that creative anymore, just reusing ideas
man, there’s nothing like being in the theater, seeing The Force Awakens for the first time, and this scene starts... the X-Wing squadron flies into Takodana and this song starts playing. i couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. even though the storyline of the sequels isn’t the greatest, this scene was one of the best in star wars!
Forget where, but I remember seeing somebody mention that a really cool way to handle the power difference between the Resistance and the First Order would be to have the Resistance rediscover and reactivate old Separatist droid factories. It just made sense, given the slight similarities in their main march themes.
Don't know exactly why... but the main part of the theme from 0:15 gives a sort of World War 2 Britain sound, like in the movie Valiant (The animated one with the birds)
Alexander Simmons. I understand that, but it could be replaced with another theme in the next Episode. The Empire had a theme in A New Hope and it was replaced by the much better "Imperial March" in Empire Strikes Back.
Can we all agree that, regardless of our own collective/individual feelings towards each of the trilogy’s that Williams and his work always did the heavy lifting through the series?
This piece is absolutely beautiful. It displays very well the drastic measures that the Resistance is willing to take to achieve it's goal, and the last notes at the end don't seem like an end at all, like a "To Be Continued" sort of thing- To be honest, my explanation can't measure how good this thing is, it's just epic. John Williams is amazing, on-par with other modern composers like Waldetoft.
This plays on the Rise of the Resistance ride when you get off and I got to ride it opening day, every time I've heard it since I've teared up, John Williams is such a legend.
What I believe is truly magnificent about this work is the struggle and choas shown in the beginning of the song, yet the the voice of the rebellion is slowly get louder and faster. This displays the conflict the dark and light sides are going through, then to be seen that both sides are at war in the song. No One, will ever, be able to beat John William in conveying stories and feelings in his music.
*+Dean Garber* Actually no, he's right; it is 'Ride'. That is the literal English translation from German (Wagner, the guy who composed it, was German). In German, its called 'Ritt der Walküren'; which translates to 'Ride of the Valkyries'.
The March of the Resistance is one of the best Tracks to come from the Sequel Trilogy along with Rey and Kylo Ren’s Themes. It just suits the Resistance so well. When the X-Wings are flying over the Lake to Maz’s Castle in The Force Awakens to the Bombers approaching the Dreadnaught at the beginning of The Last Jedi and the Speeders heading towards the Walkers at the end of the film. It shows their resilience, even when they are reduced to rusted, decades old Speeders the Resistance still marches on. And it does a good job of making you want them to win at the same time.
Some commander: Sir is everything alright Kylo: theres a resistance fleet comeing out of hyperspace Commander: how do you know Kylo: i here there music
TinyAsianJesus A commander under The first order’s fleet: Sir, is something the matter. Kylo: there seems to be a resistance fleet underway to our location. Arriving out of hyperspace I presume. A commander under The first order’s fleet: Under what assumption, may I ask sir? Kylo: The March of the resistance draws closer. Their song fills my ears as we speak.
"it's the resistance" It gives me chills every time. Let's face it, everyone loved Force Awakens until the Last Jedi came out then the fan base I use to love so much divided itself.
I think The Force awakens already divided the fanbase pretty much, and it was accentuated with The last Jedi. But unified again in the Rise of Skywalker. That one was shit for everyone.

I could be reading too much into this. Or not.

+shepard1707 A new Rogue Squadron would be glorious.
Still too arcadey to me. Though a bit better.
shepard1707 That's kind of the point of Rogue Squadron. It's supposed to be an arcade style space shooter that you replay over and over to get higher scores. I appreciate the hell out of X-Wing and TIE Fighter, but Rogue Squadron is much more fun in my opinion.
Poe Dameron destroying almost one Tie Fighter per second... that scene was perfect and epic.
+Adrian Canto López Bro when I was watching that scene I was just counting each Tie Fighter.. he was just destroying one after another like it was nothing, after like 7 I was like "holy shit this guy is going HAM!!"
+Rico No wonder they call him the best pilot of the Resistance.
+Rico and then finns like that's one hell of a pilot!
+Adrian Canto López Unfortunately it was one of the few scenes in the film I actually enjoyed
+Corin Rowe Hate to hear it! This was a great film!
I loved that Ludwig brought this back for the new episode of Mando!!!
Is this a good guy version of Imperial March? Because it sounds like it
Kinda supposed to be. Cause the resistance is like a rebellion more willing to take drastic measures
scramfhy dang and then there’s Poe.... who wants to blow everything up
And occasionally asks for permission.
¨they're tracking us from only one ship. snoke's ship.¨
¨so we blow that up?¨
best poe scene
Basically.
The Force has always been strong with you, Maestro Williams. This march now proves you are finally a Jedi yourself!
They really dropped it in Mando Chap 19 with no subtly. Absolute W

I do every time they show up lol
This is hands down John Williams' finest work since Duel of the Fates.
I personally enjoyed some of his tracks from AotC (as long as I don't watch the movie *shudders), and from RotS (the credits/A New Hope I love listening to as it incorporates pretty much every iconic theme in the saga).
Battle Of The Heroes is better than this.
+Sgt Daffy It is equal.
It's been six years since this movie came out. Time flies. This theme is epic too! The scene with the X- Wings kicking up waves on Takodana's waters was just as epic!
Just rewatched that a little while ago. That was one of the best moments in the trilogy.
Its a little different than this one but its still march of the resistance

LOLLLLLLLL
Heard a familiar tune played in a carnival style rendition in the newest episode of Mandalorian today. Nice touch. Williams' music is pretty much the only thing I even like in the sequels.
Every part of every piece Williams gives purpose and meaning. Not just for giggles, he translates piece to piece with motifs and modifies Melodies to truly make Star Wars the most cohesive soundtrack of all time.

2015-2017.
You were my favourite T-70 X Wing
I liked that scene for some reason
That must've scarred Poe
Possibly my favorite ship in the series. Sorry, Falcon.
Oof I feel this

I love Jedi's, but X-wing squadrons are the true reason I love Star Wars. :D So glad we got so much of them in this movie.
This song perfectly captivates the heroes of Star Wars. Man, I have to admit, I love the resistance! It's basically everyone who was awesome in the rebellion (like Admiral Ackbar and Leia) into one group without all of the other corrupt politicians. And being their own vigilante group makes it still feel like they're got that rebellion spark!
Nathan DeField I love any Wings. B-Wings especially.
Oh yeah! A-wings, B-wings, Y-wings. All of them. The X-wing book series is my favorite book series ever. :D
Nathan DeField The Rebel Alliance Starfighter Command and in turn the New Republic Starfighter Corps gets summed up quite nicely with this March.
Nathan DeField Well then you must have loved Rogue One^^
Luxy Oh, I sure, sure did! I'm so glad they decided to add so much space battle at the end. c:
This is the defining music of The Force Awakens imo.
Like how each SW movie has that one track that just defines it, that embodies the film. This is it.
For me it's more The Jedi Steps, but this one is amazing as well!
+abnormalAL yeah definitely Jedi Steps
I agree, their "Imperial March" so to speak. I love every March theme, whether it's for the Empire, Trade Federation, 501st, and now this.
+Sir Stefan Channel! Rey's theme

EP2. Across the Stars
EP3. Battle of Heroes
EP4. Binary Sunset or The Throne Room
EP5. Imperial March or Asteroid Field
EP6. Emperor's Theme or Jub Jub
EP7. March of the Resistance or Rey's Theme
Love how every fan argues about the different movies quality, prequels better sequels better stuff like that, but everyone agrees that John Williams consistently delivers
That's one hell of a John Williams!!!
Darth Z I don't think I've seen a more quality John Williams
Dude's 85 and still in peak form.
Reminds me of Indy and the Last Crusade. Really like it.
+silenig This really does have an Indy feel to it. Really like it.
+David AX Yea! And the weird part is that they look alike too.
hey
+silenig Yeah, the music that plays with the Nazi and the Zeppelin, I just noticed it, eerily reminds me of this one. All the more reason to love the new Star Wars movie.
+silenig It is extremely, and by extremely I mean uncannily similar to the "Belly of the Steel Beast"

This really feels like the Imperial March equivalent of the rebellion/resistance.
Yishai Thau It sounds like that's what they tried to do.
Tristan Pearson I think they definitely succeeded. This is an amazing score from an amazing composer.
I know, I love this theme.
It does sound like it's equivalent, but the Imperial March is more intimidating.
Austin Chandler Yeah, it's not an exact parallel.
Finn: Yeah!! That's one hell of a pilot!
Poe: Woo-hoo!
My favorite part of the movie.
Who else think Star Wars has some awesome marches? I mean...
The Imperial March,
March of The Resistance,
The Throne Room,
And the Main Title itself!
Love pledge and the Arena? (Jedi temple march)
and march of the droid army
The Jedi temple march
Had to come here after watching Mado S3E3. When their discussing about the stone at 22:30.
This is by far my favorite piece of John Williams' amazing Star Wars Collection
I also played this in band. AMAZING percussion part. But I am a little biased, since I do play snare...
I play snare too! And you're right, this a fine piece of music.
I switched to play french Horn just to play star wars, and my teacher then said that sense our concert is so close to the release of the new movie we would play a compilation of all force awakens songs, i was so excited. and still am
Hey WatchTheQ, good for you, I really envy you, good luck for the concert!! I play the piano but I never got to learn any SW music. My bad.

+Evan Wenzel that's one helluva pilot
Copy that!
I see Mando as a prequel or set up to the sequels! It’s almost like a foreshadowing of the resistance and rise of the first order.
@@BarberJ95is also makes the Victory Celebration and the whole battle of endor sequence in ROTJ very sad.
Dude, this scene was literally the most peak, everything from the finn with a lightsaber vs that stormtrooper with the baton, to the part where you can see just something on the horizon, to the shot of them flying over the lake when poe is revealed alive, this scene was amazing 😍
"Come right them, don't let them scare you!"
"WOO!!! HOO!!!"
Resist.
That's one helluva pilot!
I like when Poe takes out about 9 tie fighters and goes over Finn and he shouts "WOO! THAT'S ONE HELL OF A PILOT!"
200 years from now, when music appreciation is taught in high schools and colleges, the greatest will be mentioned.......Beethoven, Bach, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, WILLIAMS!!!!
Red squad blue squad form up on me.
We're right behind you Poe
I never knew the name of this song before today but I looked up "resistance march song" and this is exactly what i was looking for. Bravo John Williams for titling his songs exactly what they are!
I actually looked up "rebel theme" even better. I got the gist it was a rebel song without actually knowing where it played and who it played for
From 0:15 to 0:20 Does anyone else hear the Republic's theme from the Prequel Trilogy? I think it's the music that plays when Obi-Wan sees the Clone Army for the first time on Kamino.
I feel like it sounds like the droid march in ep. 1
+CegeRoles from 1:45 to 1:50 too
+CegeRoles yes! I thought I was just crazy - Trade Federation March 1:15-1:21, then listen to March of the resistance - 0:15-0:20....also Williams kind of phoned it in on this soundtrack, I hated the prequels, but they at least had pretty awesome soundtracks...I think John is just getting too old to be that creative anymore, just reusing ideas
yes,but is just little bit diffrence due to almost everyone hates the prequel trilogy
+CegeRoles good ear
man, there’s nothing like being in the theater, seeing The Force Awakens for the first time, and this scene starts... the X-Wing squadron flies into Takodana and this song starts playing. i couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. even though the storyline of the sequels isn’t the greatest, this scene was one of the best in star wars!
Why do people say this was a bad soundtrack? It's like the best one in the series.
The force awakens is actually the first Star wars movie to feature two main battles. The battle of takadona and the battle of starkiller base
“Sir, resistance bombers approaching!”
“Of course they are.”
I mean, it kinda does remind me of Last Crusade a bit.
1:44 I really love this bit to the end. For whatever reason it sends chills down my spine.
Makes me want to hop into an X-wing and take the fight to those dirty Imperial wannabes known as the First Order.

The New Republic was civilized. You are not. Shouldn't you be getting enkindled by Blasto right now?

Can't wait to hear this in Episode 8! I hope we get a proper villain theme for the First Order.
Alexander Simmons. I understand that, but it could be replaced with another theme in the next Episode. The Empire had a theme in A New Hope and it was replaced by the much better "Imperial March" in Empire Strikes Back.
Good point. The Knights of Ren definitely need their own distinct theme from Kylo Ren, The First Order and Snoke.
Well too be fair the Empire didn't get their well known villain theme until their second movie either.
DwayneK Media there is one
I know can't wait till rouge one DARTH VADER HOPFULLY BACK
HOLY FUCK! this is the music you need when facing finals. Makes you feel invincible.
In my headcanon, this is the new republic's anthem and it's called "March of Freedom" or something like that.
Can we all agree that, regardless of our own collective/individual feelings towards each of the trilogy’s that Williams and his work always did the heavy lifting through the series?
Yes
This piece is absolutely beautiful.
It displays very well the drastic measures that the Resistance is willing to take to achieve it's goal, and the last notes at the end don't seem like an end at all, like a "To Be Continued" sort of thing-
To be honest, my explanation can't measure how good this thing is, it's just epic.

So metal.
irisu it's "Flight of the Valkyries"
*+Dean Garber* Actually no, he's right; it is 'Ride'. That is the literal English translation from German (Wagner, the guy who composed it, was German). In German, its called 'Ritt der Walküren'; which translates to 'Ride of the Valkyries'.
Perhaps he was thinking of "Flight of the Bumblebees".
I have never thought of it like that
The March of the Resistance is one of the best Tracks to come from the Sequel Trilogy along with Rey and Kylo Ren’s Themes.

Shostakovich's 5th symphony 4th movement. There's a pitch-for-pitch quote at 0:52, but the whole piece is based on that motif.
+yevsterus Thank you!! I thought I recognized it but I knew it wasn't from any of the previous Star Wars movies.
+yevsterus 5th. It doesn't last long though.
+twilliam043 It repeats several times in different pitches. In Shostakovich's 5th symphony, that four-note motif is likely itself a quotation of his setting of Pushkin's poem "Resurrection". Also interesting here is the starting pitch - A, which was where all the 1st movement developments went to die and which the orchestra beats into you in the last movement. I could be reading too much into this. Or not.
+yevsterus And the CD booklet credits Gustavo Dudamel as a guest conductor for this piece and two more!
