I really appreciate you getting down to brass tacks on all of the radios you review. The truth is much appreciated. I really like to know what flaws a radio has and the best value for what I want to do with a radio. 👍👍👍
Agreed especially since it’s not like you can just buy it from a store. I like to be educated about the product before I would purchase it. Thank you for sharing your research. Your videos are greatly appreciated and helpful.
I have the satellite 750 for over 10 years. It's been a good radio. Yes it has some flaws. I've learned to work around these flaws to a point I no longer notice them. I do like how a ham operator sounds like they are in a studio. Music from am and shortwave have a nice warm tone to the sound. Biggest flaw surfaced a few years later when tuning started jumping around making it a bit hard to tune into the last number. Taking the radio apart to clean the contacts fixed the issue. Still going strong. That new one looks pretty cool.
I'm sorry if you had unpleasant comments about your reviews of the s2000 . Your job of couse is to delve into any shortcomings and you do that well . While I agree with your findings I would like to give my thoughts on the matter . I bought the a2000 shortly after my wife died to try to find an interest and reignite my interest in swl . It suits me so well . The audio , sensitivity , battery life and ease of use are just what I wanted . I know there are better recievers . If you buy a car , there is always a better one out there but it doesn't prevent you being totally happy with the one you have . I bought a 501 but still prefer the s2000 . The 501 eats batteries and for my use doesn't perform any better . It's really a case of what you want and expect from a radio . I do wish Tecsun would include rds on fm though . I guess people get attatched to certain radios and don't like them critisised but that's no excuse for being rude . Have to say I like the idea of the 2200 and I may well be tempted but nothing will make me part with the 2000 . I prefer the black case to the new grey but that's just personal choice . All in all , it's a great hobby for us all to enjoy in our own way . Thanks for all you put into your reviews . I watch them sll with interest . Thomas in the UK .
Every picture I’ve seen of the 750/S2000 is black. Pretty sure that every single one of them, regardless of branding, were black. It’s smart to go with a different color with an entirely different radio that’s otherwise being packaged identically.
While mine is an original Russian DSP2 that I got before the Ukraine conflict , that is my choice for a higher end receiver as well . The superb noise reduction and noise blanker of even the cheaper Malahit clones put them on top for sheer listening pleasure, almost 40 years of static in the hobby and the first time using the NR on a Malahit was a WOW, It really works moment
Hi Giles I am impressed by your videos, your approach and experience. And I am very curious if this DSP radio sounds the same as all the other top DSPs (880, 501x, 990x)? I mean the difference in sound between DSP and a real superheterodyne on SW.
I have the Etón version, I'm also not in the market for another radio. I don't normally comment on your videos but could you check if the MediumWave ferrite antenna cracks and pops as one moves/swivels it around? That was a big problem on my model 750 radio.
I enjoy your posts to be sure. I have an Eaton Elite 750 (and host of others as I'm sure you do) While I can't post pictures of it or the others here obviously you can see them on QRZ if you are so inclined at W5NWA. No disrespect intended, but I tend to agree with the HAM less harshly of course BUT I have not got the Tecsun (which I am a huge fan of if you look) to compare it with so I will refrain from comment on that score. I would tell you that the Malahit-DSP2 SDR makes both of these look like two tin cans with a string between them however for $400 and change and it's the size of the Qodosen DX-286 only MUCH heavier in a heavy aluminum casing, never mind the ICOM IC-R8600 which is the pinnacle IMHO for SWL.
Interesting how people can be so emotionally tied to their S2000 that they feel hurt by a comparison. My S2000 is anyway inferior to my Icom IC-703. Perhaps an unfair comparison but anyway true. Please also consider to compare the supply current from the batteries in both S2000 and S2200x
I had the Grundig badge version or the 750 back 8 Years or so ago. That radio was not good at all. I sold it less than a year after I got it and I was not disappointed that I sold it. I'm not in the market for any new radios now, because the ones I have are enough. Does it have MW breakthrough? The 750 I used to have was bad at mw breakthrough in the SW bands. Just keep up with the straight to the point unbiased reviews. It's better and more trustworthy. I personally will not buy another Tecsun. Not because of the radio, but because of an experience I had when I contacted them not long ago on a matter I was inquiring about. The person that got back to me was pretty hateful and rude. So that's just me.
CB radios are not the best way to evaluate any receiver, they purposely overmodulate to "increase" power, and overdrive the output with amplifiers. Any "distortion" is likely at that end. To do any real testing, you need the correct test equipment, and the knowledge to use it..... otherwise there are just too many variables to make any sensible judgment.
The eton is the same. I own 130 receivers .and the bandwidth is very very wide which makes the receiver of very little use. SORRY thats just the way it is. WA3090SWL.
I can’t stand so called reviews like this, right off the bat negative and more negative, one thing you learn with radios is It depends on so many variables, weather, setup, location, Ariels, ect ect ect, this is just such a negative and poor review makes me sad that people will be influenced by you in choosing radios wether it be Tecsun, sangean ect. Just poor.
Yeah there is nothing weather or propagation in this ... a bad radio is a bad radio..but you must be offended as you got it. wake up and choose another channel if honest reviews make you sick
I ordered my 2000x for Christmas. Pretty excited.

@@RJDA.Dakota Agreed. I'm glad to see this rig is living up to the billing.
I have been a viewer of the Shortwave Radio channel....👍👍 Two Thumbs up....U are doing a fantastic job.... keep it up

Waiting to see it in action
Thanks Gilles for another excellent review!
73!
Please compare with 990x
I would like to see a comparison between the new Tecsun 2200 and the Grundig Satellit 800.

Ghost enters the room @4:09.
Hi Gilles its was my first choise for entering SW
But finally i bought a Malahit Dsp Sdr 2

Thank you for the honest review. Would you please do a comparison on random frequencies sometime? Thanks 😊
Truth. I saw same issues that you said...
Hi Giles

It operates and sounds like the 990x and 501x

I have to say the new coloring looks really good compared to the black one, it's not all the same, the case that is. :P
I did notice that it does crackle a little .

Yes, I had the Eton 750 years ago, did
not like it's performance and sold it. 😊
Where can I buy one?
anon co on the internet
Please if you can give a report about the MW antenna input? Does it overload?
Will be playing with that tonight
how does it compare to the pl-990?
from my early observations ...unless you want a big radio and add airband... the 990 is fine
The radio on the left is garbage, went thru 3 of them in 12 years. They all failed after a few years of use. Excited for this new Tecsun

980 SSB would do the job... it is mostly to see if there is some SSB distortion
All previous incarnations of the Tecsun 2000 were black.
The eton is the same. I own 130 receivers .and the bandwidth is very very wide which makes the receiver of very little use. SORRY thats just the way it is. WA3090SWL.
I have the original and the main speaker stopped working after a week. Piece of crap.
I know it's not relevant , but I don't like the colour of the new Tecsun.
