As observed by others -- there is NO soft muting on this receiver -- Tecsun continues to demonstrate that this is possible in 2024. Tuning on this radio has a similar feel to the S-8800, H501/PL-990
UPDATING: The S-2200x has RECALIBRATION capability like the H-501/PL-990 etc HIDDEN FEATURES With the test unit sent to me by Anon-co is a sheet listing HIDDEN FEATURES. And at least so far, there are only four: MAX VOLUME LEVEL, CALIBRATE MW/SW, CALIBRATE USB/LSB, and SWITCH BETWEEN INTERNAL FERRITE ROD TO WHIP ON AM (MW & LW). It is interesting that there are separate recalibration procedures for MW/SW and USB/LSB.
Nice initial findings....very interesting...as i am looking for a larger sw radio currently.....always liked the look of the original...this looks like it will be a move in the right direction from the 2000...all the best.
There is soft muting on FM and Air band on this latest model but the s-2000 had no soft muting whatsoever. You can recalibrate the frequencies on this newer model.
@@alabamared2568 Yes it's not a DSP radio. It Uses PLL so no muting on tuning. I've yet to see a manufacturer produced a DSP radio without muting on tuning. Except of course the amazing Belka.
I didn't thing synchronous detection was good at all. The difference of audio between AM is huge. Radios with good synch detect provide very good audio that can be use with pass band tuning to improve quality even more such is the case of the Eton E1 XM. I liked the fine tuning feature. The frequency of 9330kHz that comes in here in southern Brasil is WBCQ's.
Disgusting, just disgusting! This DSP noise in ssb mode can be forgiven for pocket receivers like the pl880 or pl990, but stuffing it into a receiver for $500 looks like some kind of scam🤣

FM?
Funny that it would come out of the factory out of calibration. Did you try calibrating it?

Great first tuning with this new offering from Tecsun i love my PL-990X it will do for now hows your Raddy RF-919 doing Dan??

Those knobs are all metal the tuning knob alone weighs 70 grams,2.47 oz 👍
Dan,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't notice any soft muting on tuning. Is this the case? If so, then this bears serious consideration .
Because......it's a Tecsun they know how to build a SW receiver. Others like raddy could use a lesson from Tecsun!!!

Will it outperform the Qodosen for AM/FM sensitivity /selectivity? Not likely sibce the DSP chips differ?
Where is this for sale? Can't find it anywhere.
Can the radio be recalibrated by the user?
The answer and BREAKING NEWS: YES, it has recalibration function
@@dxace1 I already saw the video announcement. Very exciting news, I hope they price the unit to fit as many wallets as possible.
Hey I just got one of these radios my Rf gain does nothing makes little to no difference ona long wire antenna
Nice place to tuck the battery switch.
What website
Why is this new when it looks just like my Eton that has been around for years? Also what do you mean by recalibration capability and soft muting?
Looks the same but with completely new internals and latest chip.
If the frequency is off you can re-calibrate this receiver.
Dan had you got the previous model if not how are you going to know it's better
It's fairly easy to draw conclusions on the S-2000/750 based on features and reviews over more than a decade.
@@dxace1 don't argee with you there dan hands on old model and new you should have had them both together when reviewing them

Just 4 D batteries. !
If you watch the video you will see it has two types of battery capabilities.

PL-990 is a pocket receiver?!?? LOL Sure, for GIANT pockets. My 990x isn't fitting into the pockets of any clothes I own.
@@winexprt I agree, it's a little big
@@winexprt It is still a SMALL portable.
