How Balinese Homes Are Truly Unique 🇮🇩

- The other day I was trying to find the restaurant to a local villa and I accidentally stumbled upon someone's home instead. I walked inside and the owner of the house greeted me and explained to me that this was his home and that this is how many Balinese people live. Unlike most houses you would think of where everything is under one roof, a Balinese house is separated into many smaller houses or buildings, all of which are surrounded by an outer wall to protect the inside from intruders and evil spirits. Additionally, all the beautiful carvings and decorations you see in the house are in honor of Hindu and their gods. It's such an elaborate and beautiful home, you have to see it for yourself.
After the house tour, we go to Genah Melukat Sebatu waterfall and then to Penglipuran Village.
#Balihome #balivlog #indonesia
Thank you for tuning in, any other villages you think I should visit? Let me know! Also, find me on Instagram at Nick_K_Travel, cheers!

Why bipang " semiga tidak mencuri barang saya ... no good say that ... BALI GOOD PEOPLE OKE ..
Nick. You are truly unique blogger in Bali. In less than 3 months there ,you learn the Bahasa, taste the simple local food. and understand the culture what a good way to adapt a new life style. Good Luck
appreciate it!
Thank you for sharing your travels. It’s so refreshing to see an honest portrayal of Bali without all the Instagram bullshit. I really admire your ability to put yourself out there and connect with people. Your Bahasa is great. Extremely inspirational. Thanks again
and I appreciate your honest opinion, cheers man
Hati-hati jalan licin ( be careful the road is slippery)
About the man with a missing hand, i would guess it was due to an accident, as Indonesia does not cut off hands as punishment. Some people do feel embarrassment or shame for their disfigurement or disability, and he may have been ridiculed for it as well.
i see, how unfortunate for that man :(
At 16.21 , it is MELUKAT ceremony, it is a cleansing ceremony to cleanse of any bad things in life and to receive good vibe to proceed in life. It is a Balinese Hindu ceremony, you do not need to be a Hindu to join it, however you cannot do it by yourself, there must be a Balinese person that can lead the ceremony.
No, in Bali we do not have tradition / law / punishment to cut hand off.
ok, good to know, thank you
The house is reflected Balinese tradition, very etnic, love it
The temple in balinese house is located in the north east side of the house complex because the sun is not exactly rise in the east side it is tilted a bit north ❤
Be careful nick, enjoy bali 🇮🇩
21:01 common thing in rural area people walk around bring arit/sabit to get some grass/leaves to feed their livestock, i bet he gave you a little shock :)
Just consider yourself at home, nick... I hope your videos are watched by many foreign people and stimulate people to come and make other people curious for those who have never been to Bali.
thank you!
Hi Nick, we're enjoying your vlogs. Good to see parts of Bali that have never seen before and that you try to converse with the local people in their language. I'm sure they will like that. Safe travels.
thanks Elly!
Hi Nick, Just discovered your channel. There are many people and especially Australians that love Bali and will follow your channel if you provide smart content. There are many vloggers from Bali but content is a joke (nothing more boring then just watching people eat). I really hope you enjoy Bali. Beautiful people, incredible food, great resorts, warm humid weather and everything is super cheap compared to Japan champ. Really looking forward to your video's. Good luck!!
thanks Joe, I'll try to keep making more videos of me brushing my teeth and seeing how much I can buy with 10 bucks
The concept of living of Balinese people is based on sleeping quarter and whorshiping area, thus we have a compound.
You are right, every thing has a meaning and it is important for us to maintain it to keep balance in life.
I must admit the housing compound that you shown us there belong to a wealthy family.
However basically similar to other family : a house for sleep with a veranda, a house for ceremonial events, a family temple to whorship Gods , and several shrines to honor our ancesters, location of the temple and shrines are based on the wind direction.
Also we have a bathroom and a kitchen, kitchen consider as a dirty area and promote heat from fire thus must be placed rather far in the corner. Regulat daily eating is not enjoyed togeher like in the western culture, we consider is as private activity, just grab the food from kitchen and dine silenty anywhere. Unless it is a ceremonial event that require us to eat together.
The according to tradition the housing compound will be handed down to the first born son, the daughter will not get any inheritance because she will be married and become part of her husband family. The second son and so on be will be given a piece of land to built their own house & family.
that's interesting about the eating habits, I always noticed people eating by themselves but never thought anything about it. Like in the video I mention how the little girl was having a meal outside by herself, didn't realize that's how it usually is... thanks for the much needed insight on this video
Absolutely loved the house and the artwork there was so nice. And another Bob too😉 A perfect day it was too. Cya in the next one Nick n thx for sharing 👍
cheers Tez

thanks!
Sky is so blue.. nice..
Think yourself lucky and privileged Nick.
You are experiencing, to a certain degree what was the essence and ethos of what Bali was before mass tourism infected the island.
You've literally got it to yourself so enjoy it.
Keep up the good work.
im pretty lucky, thats for sure
Beautiful bungalows alot of flowers
Very interesting and overwhelming, keep it up. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing your travel. It’s a wonderful place, lots of trees, peaceful 😊
Yea there was a huuuuge deployment of young Balinese about 10 years ago - it cost them around 25 million rup to attend the colleges and then they would generally be contracted to a cruise ship company for around 5 years with the opportunity to recontract for another five years - it was a loooong time to be away but the money they made from doing it set them up for live as they were paid in u.S. dollars - still there’s a huge amount of younger Balinese that are extremely well set up today because they did exactly that!
Setia menunggu
Another great video Nick, enjoyed it thank you!
Looking forward for next one, happy travels ✌🏽.
Thanks 👍
Coffee + fried banana + nick k vlog = amazing ❤️ saya suka... Saya suka 😉✌️⏰⏰⏰
Cool video👌, Wellcome to Bali 😊
you are a vlogger with a noble heart for others and i will not pass ads from you
You're a good man!
Hi Nick, came across your videos today and I gotta say you’re a natural! Keeping it real and still funny and informative. You’re also very respectful and genuinely interested in the local culture, and assimilate well, which is great. Btw you don’t wanna get the face mask tan line, maybe wear a cap 😂
Rindu Bali
I don't think Indonesia has law that could punished you by cutting up your hands but there's one province that has their own law a bit different than the rest of Indonesia that province is located at the tip of the northern part of Sumatra island
oh ok thats good to know, thanks
Keep going nickk, hope you enjoy mate!
cheers
Selamat makan Nick.. enjoy your gado2..😍
Beautiful house
It’s very interesting that you’re talking about Balinese house. I remembered learning about Balinese architecture and its space/land use in college and it’s very unique and one of the kind which is influenced by Balinese Hindu philosophy. I forgot why the space is devided that way but it’s interesting....
And do you notice that a lot of villas in Bali are designed with that style, somehow it becomes a signature design for a villa.
That place is beautiful ya...very well manicured
Anyway...I really didn’t expect to see you at Berawa on Wednesday because I thought you’re still somewhere in Ubud 😂😂 ... too bad I didn’t say hi ....😂😂😂
interesting right. I'm glad I stumbled upon and the man was welcoming towards me. Very unique and beautiful place to live.
ha, yup that was me
@@NickKTravel 😊😊
hey, i read your comment here about why the space is devided because it's based on "asta kosala kosali" here in bali.. it just like a fengshui for building placement of a house... you can search what asta kosala kosali, hope this help :)
@@gedehendra1795 Thank you for the info. I’ll look it up 😊😊
The offerings are called canang sari (chanrnang - phonetic) and that girl in Lovina she would’ve sold the small ones in a pack of maybe 7 for each day of the week and they would’ve been maybe 10,000rup so cheap - I used to buy them and keep them in the fridge - I liked adding a cigarette or a Lolly to mine
Niceee, been to Panglipuran before, it was nice, the local people there, let me to enter their house and I was able to see how traditional Balinese kitchen is. Try to visit Pura Tirta Empul Nick, you can try to dip in, maybe? 😊 and btw, lol no, no Yakuza or Mafioso that gives that kind of punishment 😆 they'd have dealt with the law here
yeah I wish I could of gotten to see closer, maybe next time! I'll look up Pura Tirta Empul...
If a family have a beautiful door like that with a lot of ornaments, that family should a Noble
In sulawesi mostly christian , that what it is, it’s indonesian :D
For your advise Nick, Try explore Yogyakarta, you will find different culture, javannese
Try explore to the Kingdom of Yogyakarta
Wow... amazing
beautiful indonesia .. not talking with tank .. not talking with fighter jet .. good restraint ability 😊
So that’s probably allll his land and he’s built the joglo’s on it - your rooms are old little rice barns or what they would’ve used as rice barns or copies of them anyway! Beautiful
Enjoy ur touring..
8.09 I guess the name of that dog in Canggu was Toby.. :D
about the man missing a hand.. i guess his hand didn't got cut off because of punishment laws, there's no such a thing in indonesian's punishment laws, except he violated the costumary law in some kind of a very traditional tribe, then the tribal's laws will applied on him and it's very rare to happen..
it might be just an accident and he was kinda shame to show it to strangers.. and my advice for any tourist is just be polite if you visits in some rural or sacred places.. and don't do any kind of drugs in indonesia, especially for smugglers you can get death sentence here.. for example the famous smugglers from aussy "the Bali 9"..
i love your videos going in for locals life, keep up with it and stay safe and healthy
yeah, definitely won't be touching drugs here! The Bali 9 story is so sad
Nice..
Licin means slippery.Like Ubud very much and like their house designs.
its a delight watching your videos ever so often. How do manage the loneliness part of being there right now in Ubud? Kinda quiet in the evenings without a soul in sight.
yeah, just try to stay busy doing other things, reading, studying, editing... you're right tho, sometimes it's tough
@@NickKTravel i tried meditating...
Woohoo I’m waiting for nick 😊
I like gado-gado too
Enjoy your meal.
it was good, i'd like to try gado-gado again!
@@NickKTravel yes... That's a good idea.
gado-gado is very tasty and healthy.
Noooothing in Bali is by chance - gado gado is generally eaten earlier in the day and later in the day you will see them eating fruit - watermelon etc - that gado gado you were eating looked delicious oh how I miss Balinese food - have a coffee after you eat chili it’s sooo delicious
it was tasty!
This Place name Pondok Sebatu EcoLodge in Ubud, Bali 😍
Nice...👍
No, there are no punishment like that in Indonesia. Like ordinary countries,if you stole something, you just go to jail, that's it
Btw about art. If you look at carving, sculpture and art in Indonesia, including in Bali, look at The Bodobudur Temple and The Prambanan Temple, and other temple in Indonesia . The two large temples are full of carvings, sculptures and art. Since their ancestors, the Indonesian people have an artistic soul in their blood. Nothing in the world has such an ancient building full of carvings and sculptures and astonishing three-dimensional architects like that on the entire planet.
Indonesia is full of art, such as Batik, Gamelan, Pencak Silat, and others
Love the United States of America 🇺🇲 from Indonesia 🇮🇩
Wow ...
wow
Gado gado 👍👍
May I suggest you go to Kintamani and visit the isolated Aga village of Trunyan on the east side of Danau Batur.
And definitely do the climb to the top of Gunung Batur. At sunrise if you can.
Put aside at least 3 days for the experience.
good idea, I'll bring a jacket
@@NickKTravel you'll need one.
i ♥️ rocky mountain canada
I like gado gado heee,, heee
Nahh i think its just an accident, becarefull nick, good videos👍
Eveeeerything in that compound reflects how much money they have from the stepping stones snd the grass through to all the plants, trees etc - they bring in frangipani trees fully grown if they have enough money and the dogs are generally tied up cause they’re basically guard dogs - I’m surprised he didn’t take your hand off!! Hahaha
By the way, now that you mentioned kites.... these months lots of big kites. Maybe you should make a video of it. It's in Sanur area, padanggalak or mertasari, for instance. I don't if during this pandemic they are allowed to gather and fly those big kites. Maybe you can find a few.
yeah there are so kites here
Licin means slippery 😊
Nice 😍
Hello Nick, I am tweleve year in Bali
Nick, if you unintentionally step on the offerings on the ground, it isn’t seen as disrespectful by the Balinese. They believe that the Gods absorb the energy\ from the contents of the offering as soon as it has been put down for them..
interesting, good to know
Where do you suggest staying? Thanks!
These people are extreeeemely wealthy - this isn’t a traditional compound in Bali - well the layout is as in north south east snd west but all of the adornments etc shows that they have a tonne of money!! Strangely enough the kitchen in a Balinese compound is always right next to the toilet/bathroom
their place was beautiful, don't see too many as elegant as that one in Bali
Can you find places like this for sale? This is the literal dream for me.
Little bit history here
The archipelago that is now become a nation named Indonesia, in 12th century used to be united by a Hindu Kingdom Majapahit with its capitol in East Java, at that period most people in the entire archipelago were either Hindu, Buddhist or animism. And Bali was one of its colony. When Islam.become state religion, Majaphit kingdom become the islamic sultante Mataram, many nobel families that still want to keep the Hindu faith go to Bali Island with all their followers and made a pact that keep the Island hold to its Hindu Tradition. Thus until now 95% of the 5 million Bali resident (ethnic Balinese) are Hindu, the rest are Muslim, Christian and Buddhists which live peacefully and guaranteed the freedom of practicing their religion.
As per January 2021, the population of Indonesia is 275 million (4th in the world) 85% is Muslim, 12% is Chistian, 2% Hindu, 2% Buddhist, 1% others. The ethnic group that practice Chistianity mostly in norther & central part of Sulawesi, eastern Nusa Tenggara Archipelago, southern Maluku Arcipelago and Papua Island.
This make Indonesia has the biggest population of Muslim in the world, biggest Buddist temple in the world, the largest Hindu concentrated population outside India, the second largest Christian population in Asia after the Phillipines.
There is even a Jewish community in Minahasa North Sulawesi, prior to independence, this region was a colony of The Netherlands, and there are Jewish Dutch settle in this area.
Now Indonesia is a republic which lhas a seculat law and guarantee the freedom of practicing any religion.
so interesting, thanks for that!
I think you must buy a drone for explore scenery in Bali...😀
Nice nick...
bobby is the name of my betta fish. he's gorgeous ❤️
each island in indonesia has a different rule 😊
Ooh so so sorry bro..i recommend u to go to Panglipuran Village, i dont know it was closed during this PPKM level 4. Yes that the reality if travel during this pandemic time. Hopefully government would eased the restriction because cases decreased a lot compared in Mid July. Respect bro 👏🙏🤲

24:38 There's no some kind of "cutting hand punishment" here in Indonesia. Just being jailed.
glad to know!
Woohooo finally 20 minutes hahahaha... thank you Nick
You're welcome!!
Licin is slippery 😁
2 Hindu empires stretched through SE Asia Majaphut I think was one of them and then Arab traders introduced the muslim religion
forgot to say, so Bali is the remnant of those empires
Well i still waiting !
😎 trip
Your video is so high quality. What camera do you use? Thanks 😉
just a simple sony as300
Licin is slippery
Happy nice day
Have a nice day
Come to Balikpapan broo
Originally Indonesia and Malaysia was Hindu but Islam arrived through traders arriving from India and the Middle East. Eventually the majority population reverted to Islam except for a minority of the population who wanted to remain Hindu and were forced to move to Bali. Hence, that is why Bali is majority Hindu today.
👍👍
this house owner must be damn rich 😃
it was so nice right
@@NickKTravel Did you notive the bonsai trees in that beautiful yard? The Japanese are not the only culture with that tradition.

We have no such punishment for remorse or shame like yakuza, but in papua some tribe did cut their fingers for griefs and loyalty for their family deceased..
good to know! thanks!
Licin means slippery Nick
Whaaatsup Nic
It's disapointed me that many homestay built in Bali by minimalist design not Bali cultural design, i think they chose minimalist design because cheaper than Bali original home design.
