- Phillipe is interested in how architecture can provide a glimpse into how people live all around the world. He travels to some of the most unique spots and culture on the planet to see what they have to offer. Sulawesi is the 4th largest of Indonesia’s 17,000 islands, and it is here that the Toraja live. With firm attachment to their traditions, the Toraja live in unique dwellings called tongkonen, which means the place where you sit. A home and also a dwelling place for the dead, prepared for spiritual departure. Next Phillipe heads to Voralberg in Austria, situated between the Rhine Valley, Lake Constance, and the Alps. Having been previously known for its traditional rustic wooden houses, the last 3 decades have seen the town incorporate contemporary architecture, and becoming world leaders in ecology and sustainable development.

Very interesting. I recommend adding a few diagrams about N/S/E/W axis (direction the house is built, how the living sleep/funeral/death axis). I know you mentioned this but it was very quick and it appears to have a large significance. Could the ship like structure also be a reminder that they live on Islands and must be ready for Tsunamis?

I'm just wondering.. the host only speaks french. The people he meets always talk back in their language. Do they understand each other, or is there a translator?? If so, the videos are cut very well! And it looks like they actually understanding each other.
Translator, they edit it during the production stage. DW English do this on all of it's high quality documentary on various topics such as travel culture world news environmental science etc
