Kel Lauren imo those logos there are like pretty nice it's more the style i do now.. sad, i'm self taught so still learning lol, but you inspired me to keep going on so it's all good
@@KelLauren Get better at design though. I'd give you some props if you were self-aware. Many of the designers I hire, right out of college, are further along in their design journey. Be knowledgeable before you say something isn't good. It's like watching LeBron James play basketball from your couch and shouting at the screen about how he should be shooting the ball (and then take the vlog outside - teaching people how to throw deflated basketballs, grandma-style, in your 4-foot hoop).
I have literally spent the entire year trying to get a brand launched... I still have no samples & I am still procrastinating over the web design, and I am still unpaid! Watching this video and watching the way you blaze through the process has provided me with tons of inspiration. I am going to keep watching it on repeat until I start to think & work like you. Thank you
Here's some color theory for y'all: You're eyes do hurt a little with the red and cobalt blue combo because they're almost complementary colors. This means we locate a color in the color wheel and find the other color on the direct opposite side. Examples: Green+Red, Orange+Cyan, Yellow+Purple. Your eyes are disrupted by the extreme opposites displayed.
the logo was so nice!! My body was ready for this product from the beginning. I was really iffy about the gradients and contrast, but the circle over the flavors really turned me away. I was so sad omg
Emma Galeano same ales the difference in space between the different circle makes me sick for some reason like the line melts into some text and other times it does not.
Hi, a little suggestion from me, (fellow graphic designer), maybe before doing market research you could set and identify your demographic and psychographic because people who have different expectations of the brand might not find the final design appealing. Overall, the video is to show the full process of branding and i think following a predetermined consumer profile might actually add to it. Also, not really a fan of the end design, no offence! But amazing effort to try to do this all under two hours when it usually takes a painfully long time.
That's really good general advice, putting down the target consumer and outlining them. I presume she was going for the younger market, as in my 30's I am not a fan of the design and clashing colours at all and this packaging would put me off. I did enjoy watching her process though.
As someone in my teens, i actually like the colors and overall deisgn but the font colors and styles look... strange and disproportionate - i wouldn't pick it up either, it has all these fun colors then this awkward blue font, not a fan :/
this is a thing I notice with her designs in general, they're all distinctly in her own style, which is fine and all but she rarely takes into consideration the aesthetic preferences of the general public
I never thought about how boring the seltzer cans are but damn now I’m bored of them lmao. The OG Bon & Viv cans were so cool to me before the redesign though!
I would love a video about creating these mood boards/inspo from Pinterest. I've never used the site but some of the things you grabbed caught my attention
I never realized how much I’m into this type of stuff and I’m at a point where I don’t know what I want for my future and this really helped give me an idea for what I want, thank you xx
So I watched the video, and beginning started off well, I liked your logo and how you transformed the text with the sparkles and all that Jazz. But honestly, the final design itself, not that great. The blue you chose for the logo gives poor visibility and the design overall looks cheap and lazy, (other than the logo), you have basically put text over simple gradients relating to the ingredients. I was definitely expecting something a bit more considering how you disliked a lot of the existing brands, which I do believe are more of an effective design than what you have done. Of course, I understand you were limited on time and this is a sponsored video, which you have integrated well. But be careful of over confidence in critiquing professional designs which may not be designed for you as a consumer, or your age group, and you should know this very well as a designer. What you have designed may appeal to younger audiences. Always remain humble, and keep designing.
I agree with this too! I see a lot of potential in the idea of a hard seltzer brand having this whole hazy, sparkly, post-psychedelic identity. I love the logo & the integration of the pointed star shapes-but was a bit let down when it was merely turned blue and slapped onto a gradient. I know this obviously isn't a fully developed project its just for fun but still. When u later see the logo in smaller scale, the stars begin to look like imperfections, taking away from their beauty. And I thought the gradients were beautiful, but maybe if color was treated more like a lil pop, or a graphic of that color, and less like something the whole can becomes, it then would actually have more room to shine. And the lighting bolt! Such a cool idea but doesn't quite do it for me bc I don't see it anywhere else. I guess this fictional brand has really strong elements w/ lots of potential, including color concept and type but fell a little bit into trendy ig post realm
I couldn't have found a better way to put my thoughts words, thank you! I also hope Kel keeps creating and takes all of your critiques into her future designs.
Wow, that what I was thinking too. I am not a professional by any means but I cold not agree more. Her style looks cheap, color pallete bright and unbalanced(colors does not synergize wit each other). I really dig logos in terms of shape though. And i feel like design is more what is cool and not what works(for overall appearance and specific client). It looks like it was done with ms paint and it's default colors. It breaks my heart to say that. I think Kel could do way better. Keep growing.
this was such a fun and informative video, and honestly i'd like to see another brand design where you don't restrict yourself on time as much! i'd be totally down for a series with a video on each part (research, logo design, package, whatever else). i did mostly like the final design, but i'd love to see your thought process where you're allowed to spend like an hour or more on each part :) i also loved the way you did your sponsor! i see tons squarespace sponsors every day from youtubers who don't even use the website and are just reciting lines, but your video was by far the most effective in making me seriously consider using squarespace in the future :) keep getting that coin kel!
Watching these kinds of videos while I do my own design work is so relaxing and really gets me in the zone, similar to when I'm working in a studio of other designers at uni, since working from home this has been really helpful, love your content keep the great work!

Kel Lauren This is the first video I’ve ever watched from you aaand the subject is super interesting but it would be cool if you knew how to take criticism well. Not humble at all, not subscribing. Good luck.
For an alcoholic Hibiscus Tea / Jamaica flavor, you should check out a Sorrel Shandy from Carib. Sorrel is what that drink is called in Trinidad, so its more of a beer and sorrel than a seltzer, kinda sweet but the flavor is definitely there.
also just remembered loverboy - sparkling spiked tea, they have a Hibiscus pomegranate flavor and some other interesting ones like Passionfruit Guava + Honeysuckle. I can't say much about the taste ( its on my list to try) but they sound good and the branding is cute.
Your videos are so-so helpful! I'm about to start my career in webdesign (specifically UI/UX design), but I'm also into graphic design, so when I discovered you channel, I've been watching it all day! You showed me a new perspective on moodboards, font picking, font adjustments, color picking and on choosing and dropping ideas. I also learnt new photoshop and illustrator tricks. Thank you Lauren!!!❤️
Fun fact, Mexican people named their hibiscus drink after Jamaicans because of our sorrel drink that we’re known for. Sorrel often has alcohol (rum) in it anyway!
I LOVE IT!!! the only thing that i would change about the website is maybe the cloud background since it kinda makes it look crowded and a bit too colourful. i would probably make it a nice warm creme
i'm literally a squarespace designer and i don't need any kind of tutorial yet i still watched the whole site build process 😭it was actually quite interesting to see another designer go through their (condensed) site building process!
Hm. I feel like those existing brands did a pretty contextualised approach to the design. For eg on minute 7:41 the Hard Sparkling Strawberry Kiwi Water by Henry’s used those clusters of small circles to depict sizzling bubbles emerging towards the surface of the body of liquid. The center part of the composition looks like it bobbed to the surface along with the rest of the bubbles. The calories (i think) is neatly placed on the bottom - consumers are perhaps picky to choose what alcoholic beverage to consume later on the day based on caloric content. That said, coming from experience as a graphic designer who is barely starting out, during my placement and freelance projects it takes soooo many revisions and back and forth and even a BOD who has to approve the final design, on top of market research. Perhaps you can incorporate a contextualised critique next time, so it provides viewers a realistic glimpse? I love the logo choice and i am a big fan of bashing vibrant colors together - though it is a really personal choice as they dont always feel good to the eye (unless intended to do so - design wise!)
This video was so awesome love seeing your process! Also would love to see a simular video but with a clothing brand. Thank you for being you and inspiring artists and designers!
Hey Kelly - I love all of your videos but I especially like this type of “create from scratch” video. A lot of new designers just starting out will need to do this and seeing different examples/workflows is hugely helpful. If you’d be willing, I’d love to see more like this!

Ahh, I really love the way you do the saturation for all of your colours! They're super bright and fun and make me happy :) Although, I think it's worth mentioning that they may be uncomfortable/hard to look at for some folks since the contrast is a little lacking,,, which I love btw! Super cool stylistic choice! I just think it's worth maybe putting a warning somewhere next time you make something like this?
I’m not a professional so I can’t say that I know about different style trends in fonts and packaging that thoroughly, but I didn’t agree with the sheltzer ratings. It all sounded a bit pretentious for me. “That’s so 2014...” jada jada... and let me explain why: In the field of design in general, trends come and go, and how a design is appreciated boils down to either it’s historical value without caring if it’s actually good design or not, or the design is shamed or glorified based on how trendy it is. I feel like there is a fine line between these two and most people pic and choose and these arguments loose integrity. I can appreciate something for what it represents but ultimately I like things that are aesthetically pleasing and work in a solicited manner and without thinking too much what is trendy right now. The lemon agave hibiscus can looked worse to me than lets say the Henry’s strawberry kiwi can which you praised as being the best. The font was lame and the locking was boring and I got to say that I like the usual sheltzer white because it’s instantly recognizable and looks fresh with almost any complementary color. I agree tho that some of the cans look too black and white and some the brand names were written too boldly. I know branding is not about the initial splash but rather a swimming competition of who can have their head above the water the longest. Things age so it’s important not to have a design that is too trendy because it can feel odd in a moment, but I don’t know if this applies in the beverage industry which is so competitive and you see new eye grabbing packagings every other day... so I don’t know. It’s like fast fashion so it’s all about the quick profits. You can have a established main company and different drinks can work as just sub brands. If they don’t work or are just a fad they move to something else. That’s the name of the game. Brands like Hartwall (Finnish company) or internationally, brands like Coca Cola stay established and withstand the test of time and that is great branding and design

i love minimalism, but it has to be done well! otherwise it looks lazy.
Kel Lauren imo those logos there are like pretty nice it's more the style i do now.. sad, i'm self taught so still learning lol, but you inspired me to keep going on so it's all good
i mean i don't do the text and then nothing out minimalism that just seems like.. 2 seconds of work lol, yeah i see what you mean
Kel Lauren lazy like yours? Cause whatever you did in the video aint it and miles below the dumpster than the ones you criticized on in the beginning.
Your eyes are disrupted by the extreme opposites displayed.
totally right, also colors need to be adjusted in value etc to balance each other out. When both colors are fully saturated they fight for attention.
the logo was so nice!! My body was ready for this product from the beginning. I was really iffy about the gradients and contrast, but the circle over the flavors really turned me away. I was so sad omg
Emma Galeano same ales the difference in space between the different circle makes me sick for some reason like the line melts into some text and other times it does not.
Woo! I am so starstruck to see Ascentis in use! 😭❤️🙏 Thank you, Kel!!!
idk if I'd buy it if I saw that in a store, the packaging looks sketchy to me
Like ''Dr poper'' or ''Cuca cola''
PSYONIX not cuca cola 😭💀
$2.79 4/pack for my akwa seltzas©...
Yeah I think it’s a little too simple? Fun for the challenge though
This is probably the most L.A. video I've ever watched
Whenever a Kel Lauren video pops up on my TL, it always brings joy to me. It's especially consoling in a time of great isolation.
@@RookieTok im in my 20s and still not a fan of the design, so I'm not really sure if shes targeting the younger market either.
As someone in my teens, i actually like the colors and overall deisgn but the font colors and styles look... strange and disproportionate - i wouldn't pick it up either, it has all these fun colors then this awkward blue font, not a fan :/
I think it’s cool af. Very funky and odd and psychedelic. If you look at kel’s other work, you’ll see it’s very much their style.
this is a thing I notice with her designs in general, they're all distinctly in her own style, which is fine and all but she rarely takes into consideration the aesthetic preferences of the general public
I liked the logo but was expecting the final design to look something like the poster things from Pinterest at 10:09
You look so cute in this video, with the green top and the green eyeliner. The Orange lip! I love it. I also really love this video idea.
THIS IS SOOO OFF TOPIC but you look so stunning in this video i just had to share ❤️ anyway this is amazing as usual. You killed it
I never realized how much I’m into this type of stuff and I’m at a point where I don’t know what I want for my future and this really helped give me an idea for what I want, thank you xx
Omg this is so much hard work! I absolutely love the final result and I really appreciate all the effort put into this video! Congratulations
You've really inspired me to look into graphics designing, and I'm finding your videos extremely enjoyable, specially during this quarantine
Always remain humble, and keep designing.
see, THIS is how people should give constructive criticism
I also hope Kel keeps creating and takes all of your critiques into her future designs.
you just described my opinion on her design exactly, like you're reading my mind 😂😂 well done this is how people should critisize.
Keep growing.
re-design energy drinks eg: monster !! redbull. 😻😼😼
this was such a fun and informative video, and honestly i'd like to see another brand design where you don't restrict yourself on time as much! i'd be totally down for a series with a video on each part (research, logo design, package, whatever else). i did mostly like the final design, but i'd love to see your thought process where you're allowed to spend like an hour or more on each part :)
i also loved the way you did your sponsor! i see tons squarespace sponsors every day from youtubers who don't even use the website and are just reciting lines, but your video was by far the most effective in making me seriously consider using squarespace in the future :) keep getting that coin kel!
Watching these kinds of videos while I do my own design work is so relaxing and really gets me in the zone, similar to when I'm working in a studio of other designers at uni, since working from home this has been really helpful, love your content keep the great work!
I’m going to need you to link the jumpsuit! It’s so cute & you look great in green girl! 🙌🏾
it’s from big bud press! they’re pricey but beyond worth it! bigbudpress.com/collections/long-sleeve-jumpsuits/products/everyday-jumpsuit-forest-green
Had a bad day, the long video really cheered me up, it's great to watch before bedtime so that criminal minds isn't the last thing I see
I like these kinds of videos best, long, lots of designing
Props to both of yall for all your hard work, and thank you George for gracing us with your immaculate presence ♥️♥️♥️
Nice touch with the 808 hit
i love that its an actual website we can interact with!!! so cool!
You’re so right about the old Bon Viv packaging. It’s so much prettier
my new favorite video of yours!!! this is SO impressive, you did an unbelievably awesome job, especially w the colors and logo! i can't believe you created a WHOLE ASS BRAND!
It’s so satisfying to watch you do this and i’m so concentrated too 😶the designs look even better on cans and i want to try every flavor :(
Loved it. Thanks for the cool tip for making quick star shapes ;)
Your style matches a lot with my tastes.
This is so freaking good. The video concept, execution, the final design 👌 perfection. And its fun that we can actually interact with the website too.
Glad I found this video and your channel! The logo is my favourite part still. It just looks right to me! 10/10
I wish this could become a real product, great marketing for sure ✨
For me the other designs you went through were more premium looking tbh.
premium 🤮
@@KelLauren your attitude in the video when judging other brands already turned me off your content a bit, but this comment made me unsubscribe altogether
still, best of luck with your channel
Kel Lauren This is the first video I’ve ever watched from you aaand the subject is super interesting but it would be cool if you knew how to take criticism well. Not humble at all, not subscribing. Good luck.
Can we remind people. SHE HAD LIKE 2 HOURS ?? 2 hours for the whole thing. Realize ?
she said she wanted it to look a little diy
This was fun. Turned out really great. You’re very talented and the style of your design looks so effortless and unique to you!
Thank you Lauren!!!❤️
so proud of you! ❤️❤️
Fun fact, Mexican people named their hibiscus drink after Jamaicans because of our sorrel drink that we’re known for. Sorrel often has alcohol (rum) in it anyway!
I LOVE IT!!! the only thing that i would change about the website is maybe the cloud background since it kinda makes it look crowded and a bit too colourful. i would probably make it a nice warm creme
i love this! i really like to watch long videos while i do stuff and ur voice is so nice. plus i learn cool design thingies
i’m so glad!! happy people actually learn things, i feel like this is 49 minutes of incoherent thoughts lmao
i understand the urge to say "early" now. anyways. early!
i'm literally a squarespace designer and i don't need any kind of tutorial yet i still watched the whole site build process 😭it was actually quite interesting to see another designer go through their (condensed) site building process!
I am obsessed with this! I've been listening to your videos all day to provide the vibe of a workplace!
The gradient on the cans look amazing, but the blue type doesnt really make it looks so great, but I love this video sooo much!!
I’m really enjoying seeing what your thought process is when going through the whole process.
Calls other products and logos outdated, proceeds to design a horrendous website and packaging that'd be considered outdated even in 1990
Damn things are really getting heated up in the graphic design fandom
@@catwhiskers4885 fandom lol
@@catwhiskers4885 whom for the most part likes minimalism.
oh i'm so excited!!!
Kel: Explains that she has so much to do with so little time
Also Kel: Proceeds to show off her green jumpsuit
jamaica hard seltzer with a dash of tajin sounds AMAZING i wouldnt be surprised if i started seeing these types of things in the market next!
im gonna be completely honest. i never like your final products, but i respect and like watching the process. so thank you lmao you've taught me a few things
Kel, you are such an inspiration! I'm in my final year of my graphic design degree and showed my lecturer your work and had a fangirl moment. Keep doing amazing work
the 808 sample after you said 8:08... smart
This is so good. It's been on my 'to watch' list for a little while but I am so glad I finally took some time to watch it! It's a really good video showing the process of setting up a brand. tysm

Kel: 808
Maddy: BRRR
these videos make me feel so safe i don’t know why but i love it
shes the best. literally. like... insanely amazing always
dude I absolutely adore the final designs your style literally fuels me
This was SO COOL to watch your process all the way through. Thanks for posting this!
it's so weird i basically pavlov'd myself, i used to watch your videos while i'm working and now i seem to be more productive when i have your videos playing in the background
i'm so impressed that you can simultaneously narrate and design bc my dumb brain can only do one at a time
Omg I looked up the website as soon as you said it would be live and it looks AMAZING!
I wish this was totally a real brand, and you absolutely killed this and every video gf xoxo love from Canada
My favourite is Cottage Spring Beverage Co. Vodka Water - it is also Canadian, and the packaging matches that aesthetic.
Your use of colors is experimental and rebellious. Love it.
This is my first major project that started last week, and I only started yesterday and is due today 💀 i’ve been doing this for like 24 hours now and I’m so tired how do you make this look so easy im crying
you got this!! i’ve been doing this for years, don’t worry! power through and relax!
Kel Lauren thank youuu 😭 honestly, you’re one of the reasons why i chose graphic design in college and I don’t regret it at all. It’s just that the system of education in the Philippines are fucked up and it’s ✨sucking the life out of us.✨ I’m watching this right now as I do my creative brief uwu ily kel tysm 😩✊🏽
Thank you for making this Video, it was super motivating and helpful!
That logotype goes crazy, great work once again.
PLEASE make this a series!!!!!!
like before i didnt notice the impact of a good website but after watching this video i'm now considering squarespace for my portolio??? so TYSM FOR THE CODE
You're out of this world awesome and I am not even stressing. Really appreciate what you're doing here.
Brands like Hartwall (Finnish company) or internationally, brands like Coca Cola stay established and withstand the test of time and that is great branding and design
dude, let her live.
babes,,, it’s a fake brand. it’s not that deep 💀
@@theresnoham yeah sorry I was no chill apparently back then :D
