The best piece of equipment for mulching. Have to have a ton of work for it to pay for itself though. Luckily their are guys who rent them out.

Great video!!! Would you recommend a bb 302 for someone’s first bark blower? And do’s and don’t’s of the unit. Thanks great job

We started with a 302 so yes I would recommend it. Keep tools on hand incase the elbow cloggs and only fill the hopper 1/2 way up the drum. That helps prevent clogging as well

What advantages does this have over my bb302? We send a loader on-site and dump the mulch pile on the ground and load it with that. I’ve seen others have issues with clogging, but I’ve owned mine for 5 years and can count on one hand how many times it has clogged. The trick is to never fill the hopper more than half full. Anyways I paid 45 for mine completely refurbished from a reputable dealership with brand new floor chain, paint, and airlock and hoses.

Clogging was a big issue on the 302 which caused down time. Our biggest thing was we weren’t tieing up a dump truck anymore and a guy shoveling, you can run the bb5 by yourself for the most part, which means more labor savings which we put put into making sure we clean up our mess better

Seems like it uses less mulch than it would take putting down by hand. How do you refill the machine for jobs that need more than 5 yards without going all the way back to the shop?

Much more control over the thickness. We have been getting mulching deliveried on site for anything over 10 yds. If it’s less than 10 we just got back to the shop

How many yards a season does it take to pay for the machine help depreciation shop storage maintenance? I rented this unit but could never justify buying one.

We are running about 1000 yds a year, its a manpower saver and we can use a pick up truck instead of a dump truck to tow it. We rent it out to a friend of ours once a year which pays for replacement of hose and other little things

@@BeauEnterprisesInc 1000 yards a season is a good bit. I don't think I've ever done more than 200 yards in a season. I'm always puzzled how companies get account to produce 1000 yards of mulch? 1000 yards at $50 yard is only $50,000. Not exactly great money. Buy the time you take out mulch, fuel, labor. If you did 30 yards a day that would take 33 days. $25000 net over 33 days is $757 a day. And that's being pretty generous not accounting for the cost of the machine and so on. Hmm. Is my math right here........

That machine doens't seem worth it. The bb302 can do 5 yards in couple hours also but you can pull it with a small dump truck and bring 10 cy with you. Seems like with that one you have to go back to the shop after every 5 yards to refill. I'd rather have a slightly slower machine and be able to do 10 cy in stead of 5 and having to go fill up.

Bb302 is slower like you noted but has less functionality than the bb5. You can run a variety of materials in this machine. You can control floor speed from the remote (which requires a valve adjustment on the bb302.). The bb302 is also more prone to clonging on the discharge elbow. This machine eliminates the need for a guy to shovel into it all day, which means you can spend more time cleaning up behind you or just putting labor to something else. What we do is send both a dump truck with mulch and this machine out. When the machine runs out the other guy stays and does hand mulching on the small areas. 5 yds goes a long way
