- Duran Duran - Lonley In Your Nightmare
Album: Rio
Genre: New Wave
Released: 1982
Recorded: Townhouse Studios, London, England
Lyrics:
Even on the darkest night when empty promise means empty hand
And soldiers coming home like shadows turning red
And when the lights of hope are fading quickly, then look to me
I'll be your homing angel, I'll be in your head
Because you're lonely in your nightmare let me in
And there's heat beneath your winter let me in
I see the delta traces living lonely out on the limb
And a passing glimmer warm beneath your skin
Please tread gently on the ground when all around you earth turns to fire
Only get a second chance when danger's on the wind
Because you're lonely in your nightmare let me in
Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in
Must be lucky whether when you find the kind of wind that you need
Come on show me all the light and shade that made your name
I know you've got it in your head, I've seen that look before
You've built your refuge, turns you captive all the same
Because your lonely in your nightmare let me in
And it's barren in your garden let me in
Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in
Because you're so lonely in your nightmare let me in
And it's cold out on the stone range let me in
Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in
John Taylor is probably the most underrated bassist of all time! His bass lines are the backbone of every Duran song....the mood, the pace, the magic comes from him. I guess the money and banging all the hot women made up for the lack of public notoriety. But still, his talent has NOT gone unnoticed!!
7up!
Just listen to Union of the Snake, he provides the total backbone and groove for the entire song, especially the chorus
No argument from me, I am a massive fan of Rush and I rate John Taylor up there with Geddy Lee as a bass player, but I am going to have to say Geddy is better
He is simply great.. his bass is soooooo out front.
He is one of my favorites right up there with Paul McCartney
Agree!!! Very underrated
Even as a kid I always found this song disturbingly beautiful
I'm sitting in my little apt in El Segundo, California 1985...sitting on the arm of my chair, tall Budweiser in my hand looking out my front window at Center Street listening to this album...good days man, good days.
It's amazing how music can evoke a certain time and place in our lives... a crystalized moment.
Bringing back memories since 2020 lol
I used to listen to it in 1985 sitting in the sand at Waimea Bay in Hawaii on my Walkman.....watching the beautiful blue water at age 20....
Hot Wheels
@Jeff Miller Very True. And it can be an insignificant moment at that.
This song has got Japan written all over it largely due to that awesome bass line
You know of any Japanese bands that have this same sounds?
@@321Chew I was referring to the 80's band Japan with David Sylvian
'Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in'
Just one of the most BEAUTIFUL lyrics in this masterpiece.
Berlin Saint Clair Gorgeous song.
True !!! I remember looking at a girl I liked and singing that in my head...
He is saying window 😐
@@cap5macca5jack5 he is quite literally saying winter, listen closely/look up the lyrics.
Rio defined a decade of style
I love these guys ! Im only 19 but I know good music thanks to my Dad
Same here! I'm 26 and people still judge me for liking 80s music. But I grew up listening to all kinds of 80s music thanks to both my parents! I don't even consider much of today's songs to even be music! Duran Duran is my favorite, hands down! 80s is the best era of music, no doubt about it!
Rebekah Ward Awesome! Keep listening and loving.
i'm 15 thanks to my friends! - katie.. and thanks to andrew hackley... my boyfriend in instagram *heart eyes*
Ok I need a ❤️ option for u guys!! Ur parents raised u right!! My kids know their songs too!! ❤️❤️
ok boomer
No band today can compare to the Golden Age of Music known as the 80s. Those 10 years, which i was a child of, are the most beloved decade in recent history. So many things were new and exciting back then. Video Games, CDs, VHS, Duran Duran, and countless other groups and singers, so so many things.
Rio è uno dei migliori album di sempre
Sometimes I lie on my bed at night - put on Duran Duran's greatest hits- meditate with thoughts and memories from the eighties - it is fucking great - My imagination allows me to go back to the past for an hr and forget about this fucking cruel world
I’ve been doing this exact same thing for a long time now, myself...it’s amazing how the feelings of past days come flooding in!!
This song is not on any greatest hits compilation.
@@larksong1492 I just saw this. 8 years went fast! Lol
@@flaglerbob I never said it was.
@@MrGuitarandvocals Just found it weird you would mention a Duran Duran Greatest hits on a video for one of their more obscure songs.
One can really hear the influence of Japan (the band) on this one...especially the bass playing and keys.
was just reading how John was very influenced by Mick Karn's playing & that was a big reason he wanted to try some fretless
Totally!
God I love this song! It's so airy, so new wavy, so 80's. Simon's voice is outstanding.
Oh boy ! I was so young ! I am a grandfather now !! So many memories ...
The best new romantic and synth pop album ever made.
Don't forget The Big Chair.
and tin drum (japan)
"Cause youre lonely in your nightmare, let me in", what a neat line. A person trapped in a horrible dream but then a friend comes in to ease the pain and provide comfort.
same, did that with my friends...
perfect pop song; everything is perfect here
Takes me right back to sitting in the back seat with my walkman / headphones on, at 10, next to my sister, in the late 80s on long road trips up and down California with the parents.
God, I miss the 80s!
A great DD song.... I used to lie on my bed, close my eyes and drift off to this song.
Me too!! Every single night on those hot summer nights!!
indeed, such a perfect pop song
Bought the album years ago on vinyl and discovered this gem of a song.
The song reminds me of a terrific relationship in my life that lasted 17 years.
Thank you for posting this.
Great dude, for me is this space ,amazing
Much better on vinyl. I was born in '88.
*Here in 2020!*

Totally forgot about this track. God those were the days. Happy, free, good times... Bliss
one of the best pop and rock albums of all time
Simon's poetry, the composition of this band. So brilliant.
Imagine being a band member in their heyday, the ultimate! Basically 4 brummies and a geordie, who nailed it!
I had this on tape and played it so much i wore it out! Remember that, kids of the 80's? Favourite DD album for me 👌❤
Música maravilhosa, a voz do Simon, os instrumentos tudo top bate uma nostalgia de algo q nem vivi 🤤. Algum brasileiro apreciando?

Those lyrics...You built your refuge turns you captive all the same. Come on show me all the light and shade that made your name.
Can we all agree that John Taylor is the most underrated bass guitar player of all time ? He must have influenced Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers.
This musical masterpiece of an album. In my Top 10 of all time.
My favorite track from Rio.
Agreed
Agreed
It's tough...Last chance on the stairway and the chauffeur are so damn good also.

I always loved this song, so sweet and neurotic! Love me some Duran Duran!
I love it too 😊
There is no such thing as saying this too many times: “God, I miss the 80s!”
great guitar from Andy
They were such a team.
You are so right man- it is so nice to hear from someone like you- It's sad that we have to live in the past -simple was so nice-I hope the day comes when I can actually appreciate the present and have high hopes for the future -I always find myself thinking about the past- I think about how awesome shit was -no worries-I was a young fuck- funny thing is-my life is great right now- I have my own business which is kicking ass - no kids-no wife - hot girlfriend - Now I just need a time machine

I bought this vinyl 35 years ago. They were one of my favorites in the 80's. I had every album, including all of the EP's, night versions, etc. You name it, I had it.
Love this band so much
Haunting.
Milly Rosario You know, that's exactly what I love about this song. It does have a haunting quality.

Wow,you lucky person.I wish that I would saw him in the 80s live.Okay I saw the Rolling Stones live but I was a totally John Taylor Fan,and then Andy Taylor when he had nice long black hair in the 80s.He reminds me a bit of my first Love in England and he looked a bit like Sid Vicious;-) We need a timemachine but a really ones...;-D
Daniela Schwarz was a huge John fan too! :) Long live us Duranies!!
Oh yes and they live,I saw on You Tube John and Simon in 2016 this year and they look good ;-)))
A timeless classic.
Great song even greater album you don't get music like this anymore perfect
Front cover - she is very pretty - i always did, and still do, fancy her !!!!
This is Duran Duran. The drums reminds me a bit the sound of Stuart Copeland at first, but then. Duran were such a team
Yesss! Someone who notices more than me! Hahaha!
@@daviddeacon8544 lol
Duran Duran was the best band of the 80's period ! I graduated High School in 81' and moved to Florida and guess what the drinking age was 18 and so was I lol, I had just turned 18 on June 5 of 1981 how cool was that ! From Cocnut Grove to FT. Lauderdale there were so may clubs to choose from....
My favorite song in 1982, Because your so lonely in your nightmare let me in!
Thinking of someone today, I hope someday he will let me in...
If only there was heat beneath his winter....
There is...
i am that someone! :) i will let you in, Freya
EDIT: just got in your nightmare, how you feel?
@@BarrySlisk hey
very very very good song " LONELY IN YOUR NIGHTMARE "
I have this album and just looking at that picture brings me right back to high school
Amazing band ,best album
Haven't heard this in years. Thank you.
One of the greatest songs of all time. Roger & John are one of the most perfect, talented, underrated rhythm sections in history. Nick and Andy fill up the mid section without stepping on each other, with the most brilliant melodies and of course Simon's lyrics and voice are so beautiful, unique and powerful. What an untouchable voice. These guys DEFINED the 1980s along with Prince. Many others also made the 1980s the greatest decade of modern music, that will never be surpassed. However, Duran Duran were so perfect and unique, from their first album on, that you can't help but consider them the "Atlas that picked up the world of '80s pop and threw up it into the stars!!!"
Simplesmente AMO !!!
Love this song, so beautiful!
I'm still a Durani, and I still love miami vice
Same here :)
Love this song

Mio ricordo anni 80
soooo true...good one..
@lwmillerlwmiller
I have a very good ear BECAUSE I'm a failed musician. I just never had the dexterity to make the magic, but I know it when I see it.
Bella canzone
when duran duran was big, I was the only guy in school that liked the music; which put me in good with all the girlies. It may have been the eighties, but they were the s*#t.
Stephen069able Smart man.
It’s 1982. I have a pretty GF. I’m 16. I brought myself and the GF a copy each of this album. I still prefer their first album. However this is still good. Really miss Nick Rhodes using the arpregiater in their later albums. I think the first two albums was when they sounded great.
