From 1980 to 1983, from age 14 to 16, I absolutely hated school. I was painfully shy and had panic attacks every morning. All I had to look forward to was spending every weekend listening to and singing along to this album and especially the Rio album. Duran Duran helped me get through those hard years and I still listen to these excellent songs in 2017. Thanks you wonderful guys.
The entire RIO album is an absolute masterpiece. Their best work ever. Every track is a gem in it's own way ! ;) I listen to at least one song from it once a week, for the last 30 years !
I STILL have the original record I bought when I was age 14, it's still in good condition, I still play it. This song always meant something to me. didn't know there was this video until now!!!

Last Chance on the Stairway is a great one....but I do so love Lonely in your Nightmare.....it is so hauntingly beautiful!! Cheers back to you friend on many more years we have to enjoy the RIO album everyday!!!! ROCK ON!!!!
Fascinating how so many of the comments talk of hearing this in the 80's and then continuing to listen to it right through today. It is every artist's dream to create timeless music. Duran Duran should be immensely proud of themselves.
Something I loved about their videos directed by Russell Mulcahey: they showcased beauty that most of their fans had never seen. Gorgeous women, ancient temples, windswept beaches, remote rivers and mountaintops, local customs & regalia, even adorable children. I don’t recall seeing this range in any other artists’ repertoire at the time.
I totally agree. A lot of people here in the UK hated them (mostly young working class men) because they saw them as rich young men having a good time while they were in cold dull Britain with no money. But I saw it the opposite way - it was like watching James Bond films at the time, exotic and exciting. It was something I wanted to aspire to... and still do!
i'm pretty sure Russell Mulcahey was watching a famous UK TV show called 'Whickers World' where they would show & interview people in these exotic locations the RIO video could be straight outta Whickers World.
It's awesome to know this was possible like that at the time. As a teenager, I was living in Pomona for a summer during the 1980s. My host family drove me to Sunset during daylight hours a couple of times. A Tower Records store was a stop during those car trips from the Valley. Sometimes I wondered what it would be like to live down there. I've heard and read many wild, negative stories about that area of LA. I don't think I would want go near it now though with all the crime I hear about currently.
@@Piaseczno1 I wouldn’t send a 12 year old to Sunset alone nowadays for sure. But just remember the news only reports the bad stuff. There are bad things happening everywhere. I still live in Hollywood and I go do my hikes, shop, eat out and still do all normal things. It’s not THAT bad. I lived here all my life and I love it.
@@carlangas977yes Tony is a better singer for sure. (There’s an interview where a host jokes with Duran Duran the band would have been more successful if Tony had been their singer.). I have not heard this song in 30 years and listening to it now, I can still sing every word right down to the do-do-do's at the end. My brain seems to remember only the good things in life!

Thank you both for your awesome information, Nipuna Wackwella and Tiger Tiger. I also read in Andy Taylor's biography that during the filming of one of these 3 music videos filmed in Sri Lanka, Andy Taylor accidentally fell from a tree into a river. Unfortunately the same river was frequently used by the elephants as their lavatory, and because Andy Taylor accidentally swallowed some of the water he suffered a virus and had to be hospitalised. Thank goodness Andy Taylor recovered, and he and Duran Duran went on to more greatness.
I guess in my mind for the longest time, I thought it was film in India until I look it up on the internet and it was dated back in Sri Lanka in 1982 I think.
holio 'Save a Prayer' was definitely filmed in Sri Lanka. Beach shots around Galle and other scenes around the unmistakable 'Lion Rock' of Sigiriya. Closing shots I believe were at Pollunaruwa. Fabulous song and equally fabulous video featuring the amazing island of Sri Lanka.

One of my all time duran favorites. Now you also know where chris issac got his chord progression when he wrote the hit song 'wicked game' which reached no 6 on the billboard charts.
This is proof that talent/ hard work pays off. For a group ,basically coming into this ,really not professional musicians , compared to others before them, they sound wonderful. Especially compared to today’s groups lasting 15 minutes or less now.
This is a nice song. I never saw this music video growing up, I just listened to my Rio record album, that I STILL have and I still play it, I could never get rid of that one!!!! I was around 14 and feeling isolated, didn’t have that many friends at school, got picked on, felt like I was ugly, stayed quiet a lot of the time. What is funny, that ages later when I think back on this painful time, the only boy in the whole class that I remember being nice to me was a kid who came from England, and he probably felt like a fish out of water himself having to move to Michigan, USA from wherever he was from. He was not into Duran Duran, no, he liked Def Leppard of course!!! I got into this fight with a girl who was bullying me, he was the first to back me up and tell me to beat her up!!! So all this time, I remember that. His first name was Nick, short for Nicholas. I have a cute teddy bear that my Mom bought me awhile ago, I thought about a name for it, I remembered that and its name is Nick. It’s funny what you remember through out the years. 😊
Simon Le Bon from 4:31 to 4:48, was looking like Don Johnson 1985. With that white sport coat and matching pants, and him walking so cool through that breezy air. Them 18 seconds was not only one of the best parts of this video, but it was a SERIOUS nostalgic trip for me.
Don Johnson whole wardrobe is inspired by the Rio Album videos. Rio was released in 1982 and Miami Vice debuted in 1985. Don Johnson was the first to roll up the Jacket sleeves though. lol
I used to listen to this song in the mid 1990s, when I lived in North Carolina. It was a very lonely time, no girl to enjoy time with. Now, after being left by my wife, it’s a very lonely time again. This song is just painful for me.
Rio is their masterpiece. Perfect top to bottom.

LYRICS
Even on the darkest night when empty promise means empty hand
And soldiers coming home like shadows turning red
When the lights of hope are fading quickly then look to me
I'll be your homing angel, I'll be in your head
Because you're lonely in your nightmare let me in
And there's heat beneath your winter let me in
I see the delta traces living lonely out on the limb
And a passing glimmer warm beneath your skin
Please tread gently on the ground when all around you earth
Turns to fire
Only get a second chance when danger's on the wind
Because you're lonely in your nightmare let me in
Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in
Must be lucky weather when you find the kind of wind that you need
C'mon show me all the light and shade that made your name
I know you've got it in your head, I've seen that look before
You've built your refuge turns you captive all the same
Because you're lonely in your nightmare let me in
And it's barren in your garden let me in
Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in
Because you're so lonely in your nightmare let me in
And it's cold out on your stone range let me in
Because there's heat beneath your winter let me in
Do, do-do, do do do do
Do, do-do, do do do do
PunkyJessie Heat beneath your winter

The Best band EVER! I've been a fan for 33 years. From the first song I ever heard, first time I layed eyes on Roger Taylor, HOOKED!! DURANIE TILL I DIE.
Seeing Duran Duran this year was the culmination of a lifetime of fandom. To see Nile Rogers as the opening act was just icing on the cake.
One of my Duran Duran favorite songs...
Just awesome, so so underated. All round the best band ever. I had a tear in my eye in 2004 whilst watching them at the Brits.
One of my all time duran favorites. Now you also know where chris issac got his chord progression when he wrote the hit song 'wicked game' which reached no 6 on the billboard charts.
I’m surprised this doesn’t have millions of views, this song is so good!
This has always been one of my favorite songs off Rio - it just sounds so lush and gorgeous. ❤
JTs fretless bass in this song is so on point. DDs first 2 albums were absolute epic works of sonic art. They painted such a picture.
This is proof that talent/ hard work pays off. For a group ,basically coming into this ,really not professional musicians , compared to others before them, they sound wonderful. Especially compared to today’s groups lasting 15 minutes or less now.
I think this has become my favourite DD track. Unique band, no one else sounds like them.
Duran Duran ...Mi banda favorita de los 80's, RIO el mejor Album
*Coolest!!! 80's FOREVER!!!*
This was 1982 so it would be Don Johnson looking like Simon LeBon
Agreed. In fact I did read somewhere that Don Johnson's look was inspired by John Taylor's white suit in Hungry Like the Wolf
Don Johnson whole wardrobe is inspired by the Rio Album videos. Rio was released in 1982 and Miami Vice debuted in 1985. Don Johnson was the first to roll up the Jacket sleeves though. lol
I keep watching from 2.50, just to look at Simon Le Bon do his confident and calm walk 😅.
Duran Duran..... the band is so nice, they named it twice.....
I have never ever seen this before. wow.
Same here, but damn I wanted to let him in!! Lol
I used to listen to this song in the mid 1990s, when I lived in North Carolina. It was a very lonely time, no girl to enjoy time with. Now, after being left by my wife, it’s a very lonely time again. This song is just painful for me.
