      Exactly! LG has to step up their game, they either have to put MLA on the C-series or make it significantly cheaper otherwise everyone will (and should!) buy the Samsung S90C/D (maybe there will even be a Sony A80L with QD-Oled?)

    • @floz9718
      @floz9718 6 місяців тому

      @@mickeyneo4228 Yeah, if the put MLA on the C-series they would end up like the years before the evo-panels, where the G-seies had the exact same panel and SoC (= the same PQ) as the C-series. If that's the case, noone will buy the G-series since the C-series would be pretty much the same besides the design.
      Sure, they could restrict the brightness of the C-series and only put the heatsink in the G- series but that would probably still leave the C-series with 90-95% of the picture quality of the flaggship - which isn't a good business strategy if you want your cusotmers to pay top dollar for the flaggship model.
      LGs problem is the competition though, Samsung's QD-Oled really stirred the pot and the S90C provides insane value. Actually, Samsung kinda has the problem I just described; the S90C is way to good for anyone to pay more to buy the S95C.

      I went out of my way to get a GX (for my bedroom, with its highest motion clarity out of any OLED) and a G1 (for my home theater, slightly lower motion clarity at BFI high, but the EVO panel being brighter making it a more well-rounded TV).
      Case and point, having the option for a very aggressive BFI at high refresh rate, taking advantage of the noticeably brighter modern OLED panels, would be a dream for anyone who understand motion clarity.

    The most important reason to aim for 144Hz isn't PC gaming.
    It's so you can perfectly display 24fps content with 3:3 BFI to properly emulate the function of a film projector.

Newer sets introduced the MLA array, which significantly brightens the OLED which is there offer appeal in contrast to the lower nits of previous sets, but now users won't get 120hz BFI for the foreseeable future out on the newest features of the better panel and upgraded processing which is unfortunate because that would be the perfect combination

      Since you have to manually switch between BFI or gsync and can't use both at the same time.... i usually just stick to BFI except for games like flight sim 2020 that I can't render at a reliable 120 fps.

      RGB-OLED with rolling-scan would be perfect and a true upgrade to Plasma @ 8K or higher resolutions, 2nd gen OLED, aka Tandem-PHOLED is RGB-Stripe, so hopefully they won't find anything to mar and destroy that, and I really hope they spend a few bucks on modulation R&D and fix the sample & hold nonsense.

It all started when they got in big trouble for the latency in their flagship OLED and being unable to solve it with firmware. The very next year, LG gave us the first HDTVs in history where low latency was a specific focus rather than fundamentally a happy accident. The year after that, every single TV maker had followed suit and latency has never been a major issue with panels since.

      Ive also often wondered how well 2500 Hz Focused Field Drive would perform on OLED, it has the pixel response to pull it off, it could really finaly unleash OLED's full potential and give us RGB-OLED with near pefect 1:1 static:dynamic resolutions.

    I really hope they release the C4 in a 144hz 42" size. I have a C2 42" and I just love it for PC gaming, but if they can just up the brightness a tad and have the 144hz, that would be awesome.
    And 42" IMO is the perfect resolution for gaming as it's PPI at 4k, is just a few pixels off the same as a 27" 1440p monitor which is widely regarded as the sweet spot for PC gaming.

    • @speedtree
      @speedtree 6 місяців тому +3

      The DPI for a 27'' 1440p is optimal for PC monitor usage but i' m afraid you can't just apply the same Formula to a 42" screen like that as you will want to sit a tad further away from said screen as it could be too big for normal PC work like non-gaming or watching movie tasks. Sitting further away means you cant see as many problems with DPI, so technically it might not be a problem to have a slightly lower DPI the bigger the screen gets.

    I wish I could get the G4 in 48" or a C4 with MLA in 48". I've use a 48" CX as combo Computer Monitor & Streaming TV for 23,468 hours since new in 2020 and the colors have lost some of the "pop" they had when new. It still looks & works fine and I've received excellent value, but I can definitely tell there has been some fade or dimming over time. 48' is simply the max size for computer use given the DPI difference between 48" & 55" when sitting at a comfortable distance away, so it's a pain each year when the best tech only makes it down to 55" in display size. I can't justify another C model even if the presentation on the CX has faded somewhat. An upgrade to MLA would be well worth it, but not at 55". I suppose it's that same difference in DPI which precludes MLA technology at 48". They need something more than 144 Hz for upgrade on the C level product. Hopefully, there will be some new improvements to the C-Series other than new chipset and 144Hz refresh this time around. For all practical purposes, the CX - C3 models have been near carbon-copies other than minor upgrades to the menu and the addition of a "Game Mode".

    If the changes made to the G4 stick through to release, I'll be curious as to why LG would ruin the image on their top of the line model by implementing a (semi-)matte coating. Glossy screens always look better. As far as I'm concerned, if someone decides to buy one of these expensive glossy TVs and then later complains about screen glare, that is user error. Close some blinds, get blackout curtains, whatever. Very little excuse for it, and I'd rather LG didn't conform to the lowest common denominator, especially for their flagships. I'm hoping that doesn't stay through production or trickle down to the rest of the models, since those are the ones I usually buy since I do literally everything through my PC. We'll see.

    I recently got the LG 45 inch 3440x1440 240hz monitor and for games like Overwatch in HDR, 240hz is so so good on OLED. Going back to my Alienware 144 hz 38 inch LCD looks smeary and low refresh rate in comparison. I've been ruined and can't go back. But while I think this monitor is amazing and don't regret it at all, I am very interested to know more about new panel technology that will be in the rumored 2025 5k2k successor to this. More ppi (it is not great with text) without sacrificing brightness and ideally higher brightness and less aggressive ABL would really help take it to perfection.
    So looking forward to what the C4/G4 bring if anything new in panel tech. I believe my 45 OLED monitor already uses MLA.
    I wonder why they can't support 240 hz at lower resolutions on the TVs, like 1440p?

      Oled and lcd refresh rates aren't comparable that's why you see such a huge difference. If you put your 144hz lcd panel next to a 240hz lcd panel it wouldn't be a huge difference. However the 240hz oled has a perceived motions clarity of more like 320hz so that's why it's such a huge difference to you. It's important to understand that oled refresh rates and how it's perceived by the eye is different than lcd so if you buy a high refresh rate lcd in the future you don't think something is wrong with the panel lol.

    • @briankensington8459
      @briankensington8459 6 місяців тому

      @@tangodown2721 I watched a hardware unboxed video where they compared 240 hz oled to a 360 hz TN panel with strobing and actually the TN panel had better motion clarity. However that comes with the downsides of LCD and TN such ad higher response time, much worse ghosting, much worse viewing angles, not to mention black levels/contrast, colors or HDR. I think there are compromises no matter what, but I also don’t ever want to use an LCD again unless maybe they can get very bright very small almost per pixel backlight array.
      OLED has a lot going against it too such as burn in, lower brightness, VRR flickering, lower pixel densities, weird pixel arrangements causing fringing, low selection, and high cost. Worth it for gaming despite all that though IMO.

    I must add, there is no visible between 120 and 144hz. Movie watching is fine at that. 240hz is where you notice a change. And of course, 360 as well. Personally 120 is fine for watching all content and 240 for high end pcs.

    Yes it makes perfect business sense for the C4 to not have MLA but LGE desperately need either a model below the G4 with MLA or dump the gallery design of the G4.

    It's important to note the the bseries does not use evo panel. They will burn in harder over the lifespan of the tv

      no. MLA is exlusive to G-series. C-series have EVO, but only 55" and above.

      I read on Korean websites that the LG C4 OLED will also have MLA technology and will have 1300 nits brightness. ! LG G4 OLED will have a completely new panel with RWGB structure instead of WRGB and the second generation of MLA technology, it will have 3000 nits brightness, and it will also have a completely new audio system..,.,

    I would like a modular TV . Small panels become a larger panel.

    ...Or to muddy the waters further, what if 144Hz-support is in anticipation of a PS5 Pro or next-generation XBox, either or both of which could support 144Hz?

      the C series is usually marketed to PC gaming due to 42". most console gamers have bigger than 42" TV's.

      I have an A80J and honestly, I don't even notice a difference when I watch that or my A95K. Content doesn't really push these sets much now. Unless they are side by side, you don't really miss anything and movies/shows are just as enjoyable.
