    Respect to the driver of the GT3RS! May be a racecar but not a sequential, it has a manual!

    At the event I noticed something very interesting and quite unusual.
    The #86 Yukos/Freisinger RSR and the #29 GT3 RS featured a very unusual pretzel-like exhaust pipe routing which produces a really special sound that doesn't sound like a 996 generally would. It's a lot higher pitched and does not have that typical rumble.
    The exhaust tips come out at the same position though, that's why you can't notice it in the video but when you looked unter the cars in the garage (and listened to the cars on track) you could spot a very apparent difference the the usual 996 sound!

      Yes the exhaust position and manifold really change the sound of thoses flat 6 drastically !
      Just look at the sound difference from the 17’ RSR and the 21’ RSR just with the placement of the exhaust, it’s clearly insane

      @@Itscastlebravo True, but that not exactly what I meant. The exhaust placement of the #86 and #29 is the same as for example on the #176 RSR or the #30 GT3 RS but the tubes are longer and are bent in a loop shape making the exhaust gas path longer.
      I'm no engineer but I find it really interesting that lengthening the exhaust tubes and exiting in the same location can make the engine scream that much.

      @@nicoooo1837 yep longer pipe seems to make the sound more highly pitched and metallic.
      That’s why JCR made a loop to gain some length for their GT3 RS «rsr sounds like» exhaust :)

      @@nicoooo1837 @carti.2jz11 IDK if you guys still care about the reason but I strongly believe that the sound is affected in this way by whether or not the exhaust coming from both sides meet. It's a flat six engine so you have essentially an inline 3 engine on the left and an inline 3 engine on the right. If there is no crossover in the exhaust, you are essentially hearing the deeper rumbly sound of two inline 3 engines at the same time. If you merge and cross over those exhaust pulses with an X-pipe for instance, the exhaust pulses combine to produce a more high pitched wailing screaming 6-cylinder sound. That's what makes the difference with Porsche's in general 🙂

    I love those cars. Unfortunately silencer exhausts on some cars in Spa Classic. But good video

    • @nicoooo1837
      @nicoooo1837 2 роки тому +1

      Apart from #80 GT3-R none of the filmes 996 ran silencers!

    • @gtrmaxvdb99
      @gtrmaxvdb99 2 роки тому

      @@nicoooo1837 The #80 has silencers but they were already there originally (Le Mans 2000 & 24h Spa 2003). However #29 #86 and #76 don't have their original exhausts

      Yep, it sounds a bit like the 991.2 RSR with the center exhaust. They have a similar exhaust design.
