Loving the more chill, ASMR-type videos. Surprised you can get such a nice edge with completely dry sanding. You should do some more stuff with stamping and gold leaf and such, I'm sure anything you touch would look amazing!
I have one of those knives; they're quite cheap but surprisingly good for the price I did something similar to this video, I sharpened it and improved the bevel I didn't like the paint on the handle so I scraped and sanded it off. This revealed the grain of the wood, which is quite attractive, and made it more comfortable to hold
"....more interesting". This was awesome & SO helpful! My husband is back to wanting to try doing leatherwork again. Ok, he probably just wants to sharpen his blade but it's a start 🤷♀️😁. Great video 👍
I was lucky enough to transition to leatherworking from woodworking, and a lot of the skills apply to leather as well. Has made everything so much easier.
Splendide ! Merci 🌸🌸🌸
Excellent video. I was surprised you started with a 400 grit diamond stone. That is very coarse. But the results speak for it self I guess :) Greetings from Sweden.
I have that same exact blade… I can get it razor/scalpel sharp but it will NOT keep an edge… I can use it for a few cuts or skive a few pieces before I have to strop it again! The steel is too soft or it was not hardened properly; Possibly a bad quenching. :(
Yes you're right, but soft means easy to sharpening. This knife is sufficient for a small amount of work. Of course, a expensive knife is better. Hard blade is difficult to sharpen, but once done, it will last for a long time.
@@HahnsAtelier a soft blade has to be sharpened over and over and over… so not worth it in my opinion… I've never had a hard time sharpening blades that have been forged correctly…one only needs to know how to do it properly to get the job done right… :) have a blessed day my friend…
@@HahnsAtelier would you tell me the commertial name? I will see the components, and then I will try to buy here, un Argentina. (Sorry by my english!!)
Just a thought but no welt……does this not expose the stitches to the blade and therefore susceptible to slicing through and undoing your very handsome stitching?
The only way to get that type of blade truly sharp is to first flatten the blade completely up to the cutting edge i see this mistake often with leather workers it's common practice in woodworking. But I really enjoy your vidios iam learning alot
I would be super careful putting the knife in to the sheath without a welt. You could cut the stitches with the sharpness of the blade. But absolutely beautiful design and execution.
@@HahnsAtelier I would love for you to do a skiving video with that knife to show people what it can do. While it is not the best knife, it is good for what it is. There are far better knives with better steel, but this is the little Chinese knife that could. I believe it is 3Cr13 stainless steel. Nothing special, just good for what it is.
Diamond sharpening is bad. Yes, it can rapidly make your knife sharp, still, it makes cutting edge fragile and no strap with polishing compound can help.
