Thank you for keeping history alive. I was at this race and remember it pretty well.

It was a good race, good stuff to remember. What race sticks out in you mind over the last 5 years? The only one you saw live does not count. :) I know if you was Broc Glover on his big bore YZ at Red Bud in 85, crash/cartwheel, through a barbed wire fence, between motor homes and out of your sight,---to get back up, fans holding down the wire fence, on the track again and win the race, (Not on YT.),---------------well, I don't remember a single modern race. Nobody sticks out.

He was a huge fan favorite. I was at a Red Bud race when he was on a 125, and they just put in a new "double-double jump". The had to do the first double perfectly, (easier in the later years), to go for the second jump. I think Damon, in practice, wanted to test, wanted to see what it felt like to land hard in the middle of the second jump, (last jump face to clear, tallest and steep.). So he clears the first double no problem, and slows down to land as hard as possible. He just bounced over the lips, and kept going,---but that friggen ground "SHOOK". It was a 125, he weighed about 150, and I never felt the ground shake from a dirt bike anything like that, before or after that.

Thanks to the EPA and the FIM, the sport is no where near as great today as it was over 30 years ago. This took real dirt bike riding talent. Much more technical, not all high speed, a different track every weekend, 2-strokes that took more skill, and nobody had the track wired. The most talented racers were not punished with tracks that are designed to keep everybody the same speed, that have not really changed in over 15 years. I say the racing today, is sabotage on the best talent. We may not notice because somebody still has to win, but 9th place was only .75 seconds slower, and made a 2 second mistake.
So, in 20 years, if a MX bike costing 30 grand and looks like a Lazy Boy recliner with pointy plastic, are we all, (all), going to brag about how much talent we have? :) If your goal is to master some talent, (which is human achievement and the heart of happiness), then you will find more satisfaction with flowing with a 2-stroke,------------IMO. :)
