Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind. Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday. 15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date. This was at Legend 1997 (that's the title of this live concert referring to SuMetal birthyear) in 2013 celebrating SuMetal 16th Birthday, and the whole concert was special, if you want to know the rest of the songs finishing this, those are: - "Akatsuki" Unfinished Version, a beautiful SuMetal solo version with only a piano behind, the original song is a power/speed metal balad - "Babymetal Death", be ready for this insane ending, Legend 1997 was an special live concert, and along with Legend 1999 celebrating Yui and MoaMetal birthday are tied together to represent the commitment of these girls with this group, a new rebirth, so it's been 10 years ago and last week was the 10th anniversary of that concert along with SuMetal's birthday, not 6 years like you saw. The live concert and also this song got plenty of tributes to the greatest metal bands, like Metallica and X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore. The statue behind is SuMetal resemblance and is a tribute to Metallica's Lady Justice. Another thing that you don't see so much here in their live performance is, when YuiMetal and MoaMetal are having fun with cryo or smoke gun, the choreography on this part is with them down on their knees and doing the "dogeza hedoban" which is like bowing down back and forth summoning the metal spirit represented by the neckbrace while SuMetal is standing with the mic rise up and her relentless death stare, that's another moment we called -NotACult- The Kami Band here are insane set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, "kami" means roughly "god", they're wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint to represent those spiritual entities. They rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarrists). They are: - Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, a beloved member, sadly he passed away in 2018. (R.I.P.), he's the one doing that sick solo. - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums tracks. - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP. You can see at the end (when SuMetal is crawling upstairs) his head got written "Happy Birthday". - Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japan music scene. During recent World Tour they got another complete different set of musicians, we called them Western Kami Band, they've been playing with them since 2019, so the Kami Band musicians aren't official members and the girls are the only front women of this group. I think that many people start liking BM despite their preconceptions; they are talented singers and dancers, the band is awesome, the songs are well written and the staging is impressive. They just put on a very good show that might be described as a combination of metal, pop and Broadway. Headbanger is a bitter sweet song about a 15 year old girl who goes to a metal concert and loses herself in the moss pit, but then realizes that such moments of pure freedom will become less common as she becomes an adult and she vows to remember her feelings. The concert is legend 1997 and celebrates Su-metal's 16th birthday and BM transforming from an idol group to a headlining metal act with a live backing band. As Su is climbing the stairs you can see "Happy Birthday" written on the bassists (BOH) bald head. They start the concert with an ironically totally mimed dubstep version of Headbanger and this reprise comes towards the end of the concert after they have been joined by the Kami Band. The next song is a beautiful "unfinished" version of "Akatsuki" that Su sings from the same place she bangs the gong and then BM do a ridiculously theatrical version of "Babymetal DEATH" with full on auto dafe to celebrate their final rebirth. #notacult. Great reaction. I have many favorite BabyMetal songs and they change all the time. Headbanger was one of those songs. And now it has changed to MAYA. But one song that will never change is BABYMETAL - Onedari Daisakusen. Because that was my very first BabyMetal song.

On the tour last year during that part of the song Moa and Momoko have taken to having headbanging competitions with people in the front row ... and they won every time (especially Moa).😁 'Headbanger' (or to give it its official title 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!') is a song about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday. 15 is significant in Japan as that is when compulsory education ends, so the girl is also realising she will never be treated as a child again and her first 15 years passed so quickly, so she is etching this special night of her 15th into her heart so she will never forget. There are some very special live performances of 'Headbanger' ... at their Legend I concert in October 2012 the Kami Band made their very first appearance playing this song. At Legend D a year before this in 2012 on Su's 15th birthday and again at the start of Legend 1997 they performed a dance remix of 'Headbanger' (the Night of 15 Re-Mix). I suspect you would not be so keen on that version🤔but they did it for reasons I won't go into now. At concerts in 2014 on or near their own 15th birthdays Yui (in Paris) and Moa (in Cologne) took over lead vocals for the second half of the song after Su handed them the mic and stand - she took their place in the choreo. Sadly we only have fancam videos of these two performances. The same thing happened in 2019 at the Legend M concert celebrating Moa's 20th birthday (with a change of lyric to "this special night of my 20th") since 20 is also the official age of majority in Japan.
This is one of 3 unique named concerts that Babymetal performed on Birthdays. They did special stage shows and the girls covered songs from their birth years. It also became tradition to sing a verse of Headbanger on their Birthdays. Since Headbanger is a song about a girl coming of age. On their first world tour Yui and Moa sang Headbanger on their 15th Birthdays.
LEGEND D, LEGEND 1999, LEGEND 1997, APOCRYPHA - Y, APOCRYPHA - M, APOCRYPHA - S, LEGEND S, and LEGEND M were all birthday concerts. Yui and Moa also sang lead on 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' when they got back to Japan and celebrated their birthdays at APOCRYPHA - Y and APOCRYPHA - M in 2014.
This is the best live version that has been done. And there is a new video out there in 4K with HQ sound that is just amazing. The next best Headbanger is "Moabanger" where Moa takes the baton mike and let's it rip. Just great.
Why does everyone keep suggesting and loving this particular concert? It's a terrible example and suggestion. But not in anyway because of Moa , Yui or Su. They aren't even performing with a live band here. The "band" is baby bones. Any time you see the band in the skeleton suits , they aren't playing. Session musicians acting like they are playing to 100% tracks. At this point even alot of the girls vocals are tracks. They wanted to sing, producers, management and Amuse made them use tracks for a majority at this point of this career. The girls were still fighting to play with a live band and to not use so many vocal tracks. There are so many better examples , but everyone says this one is best, when it's not even basically real
It's also the opening song of the concert, well at least the second part of the opening, played together with Ave Maria. Which had baby bones on stage acting like they were playing. As is the case with the overwhelming majority of this concert. Yet people still want to tell everyone it's the show to see. The majority of songs everyone tells people to watch this concerts is tracks and baby bones. There are plenty of other concert footage out there from shows not long after this where it was the Kami Band playing every song live, not a couple encores. And the girls had the freedom to actually sing more and not have to use so many tracks. In other words so many better examples of how good they actually were.
I have concluded this concert must have been one of the most fun shows ever on Earth!
