I had one of these for around 15 years. An absolute legend of a watch. I swam in the pool, the sea, the shower, bath etc - NO ISSUES. I had the watch soooo long the chrome finish started to rub off. I hadn't even realised it was a resin case.
I also have this watch and it's a great watch. Even at 70 years old I enjoy wearing my Casio's of which I have several in my collection. They are functional for any occasion and take a lot of beating and I have never been let down by one. Having subscribed to you other channel I have now subscribed to this one. Keep up the good work.
@@carlosricardo6445 Casio are good watches, if you are into diver watches check out the Casio MTD106 or for a smaller wrist the MTD1053D's available in a black version or blue version both amazing watches which I have in my collection. They are 200M water resistant with a screwdown crown and base plate fantastic value at under £60 here in the UK the MTD1053D's come on a good quality stainless steel bracelet and the glass is scratch resistant. You can get all these watches from Amazon.
Just bought this A158 and a F91W to celebrate a new job this August. I was already looking for a smaller digital classic as a retro thrill since I'm 37 and I grew up around digital Casio watches! The backlight is fine! It looks awful on camera but in person it's adequate and it doesn't burn your eyes in the dark. Also, I gave the F91W to my 10 y/o daughter and she's in love with it!
The light works fine, it's meant to be used in the dark and it definitely works. Quite a lot of youtube videos show it dimmer than it is, since the camera doesn't adjust correctly.
The light is bad, I cant read the minute numbers with my glasses on in dark (I see without glasses better on short distance), but If your sight is great, then it is ok.
Not Frank Kern I should have touched wood after commenting this because last week the epoxy case cracked across one of the lugs, The strap now doesn’t stay on the case so the watch is now for display purposes only 😂. But the movement hasn’t ever died on me. The actual battery they use lasts longer than the fucking watch.
Holy shit luke, are we like brothers? Had the same experience, back when i was in 3rd grade(2002) to highschool. And to prove it, my photos always have me wearing this watch. The only thing that stopped me wearing is that the strap broke, watch is still functional today
@@doodskie999 ive changed the strap from the watch onto a AQ-230GA-9DMQYES casio. the AQ-230GA-9DMQYES comes with a shittier strap but the strap on the a159wge is nicer. still looks good but still sad that the og broke.
I love this watch so much. It's been with me for 7 years. I wear it to workouts, hiking, vacations -- everywhere! And I haven't even had to change the battery.

I am not a fan of digital watches (I always liked the analog watch style) but I have to admit this is the best digital watch ever produced. I would wear the plastic strap F91 for sports. As for the bracelet it is for an everyday occasion
Fun fact, someone put this watch to the test underwater and it died at about 150m, so the 30m splash resistance is way more than that. You can safely go swimming with it. Basically, the LCD died between 150 and 200m, but the watch was bone dry, the light was working, it was still beeping and stuff. Safe for diving.
Been doing treework with this for 6 years after having two straps break on my f91w. Strap on the 158 opened on me a handful of times - the watch is so light, that I only notice when checking the time or finding it laying on the ground. Truly perfect beater. Giant scratch but still easy to read the time
I bought mine off eBay as a non-runner with the seller saying it had been in a drawer for over 10 years. Got it, pressed the buttons and it came back to life, no need to change the battery or not yet anyway. I own the a159wge and the legendary f91w and this watch sits between the two very nicely, it doesn't look rugged and it's not too in your face either. It's bossy without being blingy and a very welcome addition to my Casio watch collection.
I have the A178W, with a stainless back and four buttons. It also has slightly better backlight. I mainly bought it because the digital display has larger numbers than the 91 or 158. They are all fun.

This is most definitely a Cool timepiece and well respected by many, me included. I personally own a lot of Casio's , old ones, over 30years old, and brand new G-Shock models. Never have I been disappointed by any of them!
I vote this watch under Cool. It's definitely a solid watch, extremely affordable and no nonsense appeal. I am more of a fan of the 0800AH or a DW5600, however, I can't dis this watch at all. I owned one as a kid and I loved it. Seriously? Black Resign is now a "Dad Watch," I didn't get the memo!! All jokes aside good review As everyone else stated I am 31. I have several affordable watches I cycle through my collection but I may get rid of some. I hate the back light which is the only reason I don't own one.
For the brushed finish on the band, an easy fix would be polishing it with some Cape Cod cloth (following the grain). I did it and it matches the finish on the case. And with the now polish finish along with the cheap durability with the material makes it hard for significant scratches to appear from average daily use as they blend in with what's left of the brushed finish. If you don't like those scratches on the band just hit it with Cape Cod cloth again (not for the case tho, it would be ruined easily)
I picked one of these few month ago to add it to my collections of G-SHOCKs as a fun kind of a joke watch. I specifically chose this model with weak backlight as it feels so 80s. Every time I press backlight button I travel some 30-40 years back in time :) Absolutely love it :D
I recently purchased the F-91w and was surprised with how much I absolutely love it, and I saw a picture of Idris Elba wearing the gold version and he looked great with it. Gold doesn’t look good on my skin so I looked up the f-91w’s silver counterpart, watched this vid and will now be buying it. Can’t get enough of these watches

Nice to see you branching out. Definitely a cool watch. I have the a163w which is the same as yours with a few visual differences. Very comfortable and I never get nipped by the bracelet. Look forward to seeing what else you review.

LOL @ the Archie clip! I have the A168W with the slightly better backlight but, no question, this watch is cool. Great value as well. Also, if you're a function-first kind of person who doesn't spend a lot of time in the water this could be almost the ultimate tool watch: time (with 12/24 hour display), date, alarm/reminder, chronograph/stopwatch, backlight, reasonable water resistance, excellent timekeeping, and virtually zero maintenance. Plus it's kind of stylish in an angular 80s sort of way. Although I've got higher end watches, I'm also a massive fan of these inexpensive Casios. Two thumbs up and zero complaints.
The best, wear it every day. Camel color. I bought two of them because for some reason I thought they may become hard to find. I'm pretty sure that I was wrong. At my age only one should last me. I have several Casios but I can't get away from this one because of the size and the look. I had one sometime in the 90s and I don't remember what happened to it. Just bought one to use as a yard watch or to use when on vacation (whenever we get to have vacations again). It's great. I do wish the backlight was better, but I like the face lettering of the 158 over the busier 168. The bracelet and the overall light weight makes it a very pleasant watch to wear. I rummaged to the bottom of one of my watch boxes the other day and realized that I still have a 90s Data Bank model in black that probably just needs a new battery. May try to revive that one. My GOOD digital watch is a dual alarm plus chime Citizen, all steel, that I bought in Chicago about 1983 - it still functions perfectly. Ben, nice job on the reviews, I like your comments and the nice videography, I'll keep watching.
First of all: in my opinion, EVERY watch from Casio is a classic. They just can't seem to make anything else. You mentioned that G-Shocks are too big for you. I'm a huge person, and one of the many reasons I like G-Shocks is that they do fit my hands and wrists very nicely. (Except that the straps could be just a bit longer, but that's true of all brands for me.) With watches as with so many things, one size does not fit all. The main thing, though, is to have a watch you love, and don't worry what anyone else thinks of it. I've seen very small people pull off very large watches with no problem, and vice versa. Well, that's just my opinion. One opinion also does not fit all, I suppose.
I bought this watch today solely upon the fact it looked like a old watch that belonged to my late dad. The said old watch sat in a storage tub for years, tried to get a new battery but there was a lot of things broken inside it so I could see the Cardinal watch come to life. Seeing this Casio watch at my local Walmart I knew I had to get it, wore it to work and I hardly felt the weight! 😁👍🏼
This watch belongs under the cool category. It isn't classy when compared to a Seiko or Rolex, BUT for somebody going in for their first job interview it is a great way to add a touch of class without looking pretentious. It also would look great for a young man going on a first date. I'm 37, so this watch isn't really for me, but is a great fit for my son. It is a cool watch for someone between 12 and 25 IMO.
Personally I Don't think that casio retro line is for a genre or age in specific. I'm a young woman of 30 yrs old and I really love to wear casio watches anywhere. There's a tiny version "for women" but women can wear a 158w
Good idea with the new channel. You should become the best reviewer of budget (less than 200 watches). I like teddy and t3 and others but wish they talked more about cheaper stuff. Maybe this could be your niche.
I have a F91wm but early 2020 i accidently ruin the inside of the watch and it died .left it for almost a year until im walking and noticed a casio watch that i dont know if its fake or not ,the modul have the same yellow light , sama features,but it doesnt display the "CAsio " but it past the other genuine check.when i searched online someone on a website said that the early module doesnt display the "CAsio" .so when i got home i took my old f91wm case and fit the module inside and surprisingly it fits and works like a normal casio without the "CAsio" test.As the result i am bery happy that i could enjoy my F91wm again because it is the perfect slim digital watch .i had a gshock ,samsung galaxy watch and other watches but not as comfortable as the f91wm. I might look for another casio such as the a169 or the AE series.
It's cool. I've had one for a few years, and now it's in my wife's collection. It is a watch that can be easily matched with any outfit. I really like it, and it's hard to match the quality / price ratio.

I haven't had a digital watch in years, but gave into to the urge to pick up another one...the 158. Love it and quite a bargain. I decided on the metallic version because I'm wary of the plastic band on the other version. I had another Casio model some years earlier that had a plastic band that failed--started coming apart--in under two years. So no plastic banded Casios for me.
i just bought one for 1600 rupees just now,watching this video. i was looking for a metal chain watch. this will be my second casio and i lost that some where. dial is small comparing other but i like casio it jas a very cozy feel. i also bough a smart watch last week . so depend up on my mood i can switch. 😊
Hey, loved your review! I just bought both the f91w and a158w model for the very first time and I'm excited to own and try them out! But you missed out the alarm and stopwatch feature. Hope you would have covered that. But overall awesome it got me excited for my watches I'll share a picture when I get my timepieces.
I'm 51 yrs old & I own watches that range in "quality" and price-- from vintage & new Seikos, to Bulovas, Swiss Army, Timex, vintage Swatches, and even a 60's era Prisma mechanical... By far, though, my Casio digitals and ana-digis have more features, cost less, are easier to see, & (in some cases) are tougher-- i.e. my G-100 G-shock... And, if not, they're all-too-easily replaced if they get beat up... All I have to do is glance at my wrist to know the time, day & date-- and all at the same time; which is something very few analog watches do... ...even fewer do it at the same price-point as my digital Casios... ☺
If you think that light is weak, you should take a look at my japanese W39's one from the eighties. Unfortunately, I recently destroyed the glass on that W39 after a battery replacement and no one seem to sell parts for these watches. I could buy this newer version, though I know for sure It's not that good in terms of case and electronics. Thanks for the review.

Bought one of these today, but with a gold/yellow-ish front. Really cool vintage-looking watch. Much easier to just glance at my wrist than dig out my phone when I need to quickly tell the time.

I work at the hotel and for the past few years this watch has never let me down, battery still good, only had to change date, accuracy is insane as should be expected from quartz. I bought Marathon Search & Rescue 36mm Automatic recently, Ill miss this watch...sometimes xD

I think the size of this is both a pro and a con, it fits my wife’s wrist perfectly but I prefer the slightly larger A168 or even better one of the g shock squares
I'm a huge watch enthusiast since childhood and had and have meanwhile a great number of prestige brands like Longines, Omega, Tudor but also middle price range brands like Hamilton, Tissot or Seiko. Nonetheless I love my small but nice G-SHOCK collection (Rangeman, GD-350-1BER, DW-5600, GST) more than the other watches...
I'd throw on a denim jacket, white tee, some cool jeansm a pair of chuck taylors and I'd be good to rock one of these babies on my wrist, it's the retro look
I bought the a168 last week, the backlight is so much more of an upgrade and only cost me £10.50 on eBay! Surely this is the one to promote for basic 80s retro styling with modern day functionality?

Yeah on my f-94w, it works just fine even in the middle of the night. I can see the time.

Even despite some of its known flaws, namely the poor backlight and less than ideal Water Resist, I still think this is the best Casio.
I own many watches that are much more expensive but i keep going back to my a159 because it’s just so light and unnoticeable on the wrist.

Plus it's kind of stylish in an angular 80s sort of way. Although I've got higher end watches, I'm also a massive fan of these inexpensive Casios. Two thumbs up and zero complaints.
The best, wear it every day. Camel color. I bought two of them because for some reason I thought they may become hard to find. I'm pretty sure that I was wrong. At my age only one should last me. I have several Casios but I can't get away from this one because of the size and the look. I had one sometime in the 90s and I don't remember what happened to it. Just bought one to use as a yard watch or to use when on vacation (whenever we get to have vacations again). It's great. I do wish the backlight was better, but I like the face lettering of the 158 over the busier 168. The bracelet and the overall light weight makes it a very pleasant watch to wear. I rummaged to the bottom of one of my watch boxes the other day and realized that I still have a 90s Data Bank model in black that probably just needs a new battery. May try to revive that one. My GOOD digital watch is a dual alarm plus chime Citizen, all steel, that I bought in Chicago about 1983 - it still functions perfectly. Ben, nice job on the reviews, I like your comments and the nice videography, I'll keep watching.

First of all: in my opinion, EVERY watch from Casio is a classic. They just can't seem to make anything else. You mentioned that G-Shocks are too big for you. I'm a huge person, and one of the many reasons I like G-Shocks is that they do fit my hands and wrists very nicely. (Except that the straps could be just a bit longer, but that's true of all brands for me.) With watches as with so many things, one size does not fit all. The main thing, though, is to have a watch you love, and don't worry what anyone else thinks of it. I've seen very small people pull off very large watches with no problem, and vice versa. Well, that's just my opinion. One opinion also does not fit all, I suppose.

I bought this watch today solely upon the fact it looked like a old watch that belonged to my late dad. The said old watch sat in a storage tub for years, tried to get a new battery but there was a lot of things broken inside it so I could see the Cardinal watch come to life. Seeing this Casio watch at my local Walmart I knew I had to get it, wore it to work and I hardly felt the weight! 😁👍🏼

This watch belongs under the cool category. It isn't classy when compared to a Seiko or Rolex, BUT for somebody going in for their first job interview it is a great way to add a touch of class without looking pretentious. It also would look great for a young man going on a first date.
I'm 37, so this watch isn't really for me, but is a great fit for my son. It is a cool watch for someone between 12 and 25 IMO.
Personally I Don't think that casio retro line is for a genre or age in specific. I'm a young woman of 30 yrs old and I really love to wear casio watches anywhere. There's a tiny version "for women" but women can wear a 158w

I have a F91wm but early 2020 i accidently ruin the inside of the watch and it died .left it for almost a year until im walking and noticed a casio watch that i dont know if its fake or not ,the modul have the same yellow light , sama features,but it doesnt display the "CAsio " but it past the other genuine check.when i searched online someone on a website said that the early module doesnt display the "CAsio" .so when i got home i took my old f91wm case and fit the module inside and surprisingly it fits and works like a normal casio without the "CAsio" test.As the result i am bery happy that i could enjoy my F91wm again because it is the perfect slim digital watch .i had a gshock ,samsung galaxy watch and other watches but not as comfortable as the f91wm. I might look for another casio such as the a169 or the AE series.
It's cool. I've had one for a few years, and now it's in my wife's collection. It is a watch that can be easily matched with any outfit. I really like it, and it's hard to match the quality / price ratio.
You just can't go wrong with Casio. Love the brand.

I haven't had a digital watch in years, but gave into to the urge to pick up another one...the 158. Love it and quite a bargain. I decided on the metallic version because I'm wary of the plastic band on the other version. I had another Casio model some years earlier that had a plastic band that failed--started coming apart--in under two years. So no plastic banded Casios for me.

Hey, loved your review! I just bought both the f91w and a158w model for the very first time and I'm excited to own and try them out! But you missed out the alarm and stopwatch feature. Hope you would have covered that. But overall awesome it got me excited for my watches I'll share a picture when I get my timepieces.
I'm 51 yrs old & I own watches that range in "quality" and price--
from vintage & new Seikos, to Bulovas, Swiss Army, Timex, vintage Swatches, and even a 60's era Prisma mechanical...
By far, though, my Casio digitals and ana-digis have more features, cost less, are easier to see, & (in some cases) are tougher-- i.e. my G-100 G-shock...
And, if not, they're all-too-easily replaced if they get beat up...
All I have to do is glance at my wrist to know the time, day & date-- and all at the same time; which is something very few analog watches do...
...even fewer do it at the same price-point as my digital Casios... ☺

If you think that light is weak, you should take a look at my japanese W39's one from the eighties. Unfortunately, I recently destroyed the glass on that W39 after a battery replacement and no one seem to sell parts for these watches. I could buy this newer version, though I know for sure It's not that good in terms of case and electronics. Thanks for the review.

Bought one of these today, but with a gold/yellow-ish front. Really cool vintage-looking watch. Much easier to just glance at my wrist than dig out my phone when I need to quickly tell the time.

I work at the hotel and for the past few years this watch has never let me down, battery still good, only had to change date, accuracy is insane as should be expected from quartz. I bought Marathon Search & Rescue 36mm Automatic recently, Ill miss this watch...sometimes xD

Agree. For me it’s just a tad too small and the backlight isn’t that great so I went with the 168 and love it.
