Quick question if you can find the time. Cams are in but un-torqued just yet. The rh exhaust and lh intake cams doesn’t rock/sway freely like the others do. Is this normal? I was told a way of knowing you’re in neutral is the cam will have slight play to sway.

I'm currently working on a 2018 f150 with this engine. I ran into an issue with the timing marks on the driver side exhaust cam would not match up with the workshop Manuel.. I followed the instructions as seen in this video and still couldn't get the timing mark for the drivers side to end up where they needed to be.. the marks would always be facing the center of the engine for some reason..
The passenger side seemed fine, but when I went to move the crank from 12 o'clock to 5 o'clock the Crank wouldn't go that far before something made Contact inside the engine..
Figuring I must have missed something, I stopped..removed the cams and started from square one.
Now that everything has been cleaned and prepped for the install of the cams, I am still having an issue with the driver side cams. They won't lay down where they should so I can install the caps.. There is no way I can install the driver side cams and have the provisions for the phasers in the correct orientation without some of the cam lobes opening up some of the valves..
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong here.. I've done my fair share of timing sets on these, but this one has me stumped..
As a added note.. the truck came in because it had a terrible noise that sounded like bad phasers or something going on with the timing set.. the driver also said if he didn't run premium gasoline, the truck would ping really badly.. I didn't notice any missing or running issues before I began the work..but the noise was definitely more prominent then it had been the last time I serviced the vehicle..
    Any help would be appreciated..

    Hi Ken,
I have been using your OPG video as reference for changing the oil pump gears in my 2019 Gt and have run into a bit of a hiccup.
Was wondering if you could help.
I am pretty sure I did the timing procedure correctly, but When I turn the engine over by hand I here a clanging sound that seams to be coming from front drivers side of engine. It sounds like its coming from timing cover area but its hard to tell.
Unfortunately I only noticed this after I had the timing cover and valve covers back on.
Is it normal to hear clanging or clacking coming from that area when turning engine over by hand?
    Any help would be appreciated

Great video and very detailed instructions gave me the confidence to do my own as well. I had one mistake and that was on Gen 3 cams there’s seals that need to be put on the cams. I totally missed them and was having issues with my cam timing with those seals missing the phasers wouldn’t hold oil pressure and my position B sensor was freaking out and shutting down VCT. I believe this only applies to Gen 3 motors, so if your reading this the video shows you step by step and I had no issues just those damn seals lol.

Yes it’s just on the exhaust cams on a gen3.

On a positive note, I’m really good at breaking down the motor and setting cams and getting the timing right lol.

I’m looking to do my opg on my Gen 3, Do any of these bolts as far as the opg process is concerned need to be replaced? I’ve read a few forums mentioning torque to yield bolts but for whatever reason nobody ever states which ones if any. Thanks

hey what puller do you use for the gen 3 crank pulley?

    • @SpeedAddict731
      @SpeedAddict731  4 місяці тому

I use a Chrysler harmonic puller part number 67005. If 18-19 you will have to grind down the ends some to fit. But if 20+ you don’t.

FYI you need to replace the cam cap bolts there torque to yield

FYI in the Ford workshop manual it says to remove and discard all bolts that require replacement when it tells you to remove the bolts in each step such as the crank bolt and cam phaser bolts. However, they do not require replacement of cam cap bolts per the Ford workshop manual. Not sure as to why but I’m not an engineer. It doesn’t hurt to replace them but not required. I have never had any issues over the many years when working on these engines.

I did this myself and installed an Odin supercharger. Just cranked it up and got code p0019. Any thoughts? I followed the steps here and am 99% positive that the timing is correct...I dont want to tear everything back apart if I dont need to.

Im seriously considering a cam upgrade.. Either a Vortech Procharger or a blower.. That's hardest decision for my 2019 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 PP1 Kona Blue.. I like the idea that the Vortech keeps engine bay stock with the strut tower brace.. Blower you have to change everything.. you cant keep the strut tower brace..

How did you get the rh valve cover off without removing the intake manifold? Doing opg and not having to remove the intake manifold for that line to the hpfp would save me a lot of time.
