IU shared a letter that Tang Wei wrote to her after filming talking about her experience, and everything mentioned in the letter makes it very blatant that the relationship in the MV is about a mother and daughter (Tang Wei mentions key memories of her childhood and her relationship with her own mother, for instance). But I will say that the story in the MV is more than just mother-daughter, since there are two sides to the story and that part is only from Tang Wei's POV. IU's POV in the second verse is about a 'friendship'. And in that case, a GL angle is very plausible. Theory: In the PAST, She placed those she loved in there (so they can be with her forever) - her mother and her friend. In the PRESENT, she spots IU, who looks very much like her mother, when she was younger. Before seeing IU, she had early spotted someone who looked like her friend, whom she (assumed that she knocked out) placed in the boot. She would have place IU in the boot too except IU boldly approached her first. It can be assumed the woman in the boot will be placed down there too. But IU will be her mother figure in the present and most probably live together, with IU keeping her secret...Shh A dark theme indeed. Love the story line. Want a darker theme: Consider she has been driving around looking out for people that resembles her mother and her friend. If this isn't her first drive, then how many people has she "collected" in there? IU delivers another MV movie!❤ IU has really gone all out for her fans: 4 MVs from 5 songs - 1 Fantasy, 1 Fun, 1 Dark and 1 Apocalyptic. Uniquely IU indeed. Respect much! .👍🏻❤👏👏

IU has has several thinly disguised 'girl love' songs, including 'Secret' and 'Peach'. Her first love, she keeps telling herself these feeling aren't about (L)esbianism but in the end admits that's what it was. This appears to be another song about her departed friend Sulli (known by everyone and no one at the same time), judging from the hints.
this song and video are definitely not about lgbt themes though that's what I did think it might be at first. It becomes clear to me in the video that it's about mothers and their daughters and the special nature of the mother-daughter relationship and the power of girls/women. It even says the word "mother" in the text toward the beginning of the music video
Expand your perspectives...this is about mothers and daughter relationships from the lens of 'mobuis' which is the sign over the doorway in the beginning and ending of the mv. Don't be disrespectful! IU is next level, and you clearly are not there yet
