  • EDIT: *If it is too fast-paced, you can slow it down in the setting functions.
    EDIT: Our goal was to buy the worst house in the best neighborhood. We bought the house for $74,000, put $27,000 of our own money into it. And had it reappraised for $160,000!
    YOU CAN DO IT TOO!!!
    We bought a house and made it a home!
    Back in May of 2016, me and my wife (4 months pregnant) decided to take on a 'handful of a project, by buying, gutting, and remodeling a house; floor to ceiling in almost all of the rooms.
    With the expertise of her Aunt and Uncle, we were able to tackle all the projects ourselves!
    Here is our journey!

    There’s some pretty harsh commenting here. I’m very sorry bout that. It’s not easy to demo and rebuild a house with limited funds. Not to mention, it looks like you lived somewhere else while doing it, so mortgage on top of rent? Bummer. I’m looking to do a similar thing, but i have to buy knowing that i will need to live there and do one room/project at a time. Don’t listen to the hate- you worked hard, and made a home for your family. You should be proud.

    I relate and applaude as I, with my brother and sister spent 50K and 5000 hours renovating a rental property owned by our mother. 6 am departures to a cold house, endless choices, discoveries and visits to Home Depot.(OMG, another problem!) with 9pm finishes with a 30 minute drive to fall into bed. The house was build in 1988 is in a great location but has had zero maintenance, everything needed attention. Its rewarding and hard work, but never again. I will sell up and live in a nice motorhome with my loyal dogs before I become a slave to a house again.

Like I said before everyone had their own style, to those of you looking for home improvement inspiration if you think it’s too dark than all you have to do for your OWN HOME is get a color that reflects the natural light form the windows. I think the home looks very cozy and inviting which is imprint to many people when they have hectic lives and all they want to do is a have a place that they love and literally poured their own heart and soul into to raise their family. Policeman carpet is becoming more & more obsolete here, although there are still some die-hard Carpet in the bedroom lovers. However not many of us like carpet in our homes at all anymore. I know i for one prefer hard flooring that can be cleaned properly & if I need a soft warm place to step then I put down an area rug that I can hose down & shampoo out on the driveway every few months. Way cleaner & easier to maintain for long periods. Lol but he did a beautiful job regardless of anyone else’s personal esthetic preferences. It is his house, his money, his hands... therefore, his choice! 😁🤗

    "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything" they did an awful lot of work and it takes a lot of money. While they did that, you spend your time putting other people down. Good job 👏

    2:18 can anybody tell me why put insulation halfway up in the kitchen walls like that? Is that the dining room area?

      I believe the top either already had some, or we were feeding it all the way up and the lapse is too quick to see.

    Very nice before and after 😊 I don’t understand why the comments are so negative about the furniture, it’s not like furniture is permanent. The house is very nice and the carpet upstairs makes sense, when you have kids it’s more comfortable for them.

    How much it costs for total remodeling process if someone hire a team to do this

    • @BenSliwa
      @BenSliwa  5 років тому

      It cost us around $27,000 for all the renovations. If we hired someone else to do it (which we didn't look into) but I would be willing to guess it would have been closer to $75,000 - $100,000 total. Labor from contractors / workers is the biggest cost of any service. It would have been a quicker process, but we didn't have that kind of money to spend. Hope that helped!

    • @yi5327
      @yi5327 5 років тому

      Ben Sliwa thanks man, manpower is the biggest cost. I wanna do it myself but know nothing about renovating... can’t even know how to pull out the floor tiles😅

    • @BenSliwa

      I@@yi5327 I knew very little going into it - I got luck and my wife's uncle led me through the stuff I didnt know. So just find someone with all the knowledge - haha. that's easy right? (I got lucky.)

    Ben, you did a GREAT job. We bought our first house 9 years ago and had planned on just remodeling the bathrooms. People don't realize when you start tearing into a project you find all these "hidden" issues you never knew you had until you tear out a wall. We will be redoing ALL the plumbing, rewiring the ENTIRE house and another "discovery" we made was there was no insulation in ANY of the exterior walls. None. On top of all of this, we found a pipe had burst at some point prior to us buying the house, the house flooded and yea...we now get to replace all the drywall. You did awesome, forget the haters. The fact you had rent on top of a mortgage on top of having to fund the renovations....UGH...Am there, doing that and never ever want to do it again. My next house is either going to be gutted down to the studs so I can see everything or else I will build from scratch.

    • @BenSliwa
      @BenSliwa  4 роки тому

      That's crazy! We had some flooding before and during the reno that we didnt film - always fun when things set you back days or weeks. lol Thanks for the comment, loved reading it.

    how much did it cost and how long.

    • @BenSliwa
      @BenSliwa  7 років тому +11

      It took us around 4 months - start to finish. And I think the total cost was $27 grand. Which, if we hadn't done it ourselves, would have been atleast twice that. And it more than doubled the value of the house in the end.

    Congratulations and it's very important so we build a home making it nice and sturdy. Yeah I did the most important things however I seen better.I wish y'all would have open the wall to the living room and the kitchen to open the space I love the kitchen tho.. regardless overall it was better than what it was and I understand its not always a need to be quick to update your furniture and decorating. Just spent hell of a lot of money you could take your time on decorations that come with time
