2 years later, I recently bought one, and it’s my first bike also, I gave $1900 for a 2000 model with only 5k miles, and got a helmet and gloves with it too.
I sold it to my babysitter’s husband, it was a 2000 VLX deluxe 600. Pros- very forgiving for new riders, relatively easy maintenance, pretty good in curves, decent acceleration for its size. Lightweight. Cons- lightweight, not too good for interstate riding, if highway riding it’s best at 50-65 mph, 70+ is loud use ear plugs/protection. Gas mileage good but has a peanut tank. Back brakes were meh, and now that I have a Shadow Sabre 1100 with rear disk brakes, I don’t think I’ll go back to drum lol. All in all for a first bike it was good and fun, and glad I kept it for a year because it was good experience, but I would say no more than a year or as a spare bike to do run around stuff. Sorry for the long post.
My wife has a 2003 model of this exact same bike, and I have a 2005 Shadow Aero 750, 5 speed, shaft drive, and I have a hard time keeping up with her!! She absolutely loves this bike!! Low center of gravity, shorter wheel base, lightweight. It's the perfect bike for the weekend rider that wants to have a fun ride and not worry about dropping a 1000 pound, $10,000 Harley or Goldwing. Insurance for hers and mine combined is only $35 a month.
I just got a great 1995 shadow for 800.00. 15,000 miles. Great condition. A few upgrades too. I am a female, just taking my traing course this weekend! Cannot wait to ride.
@@Legendarygurth1 Congratulations!! For a best start, take the class! I am a tall girl, and the vlx 600 shadow was a perfect starter bike. I was too tall for it so went to an 1100 Shadow Sabre. 1994.
I'm an old man and had to get a lighter bike and one with a low seat height. The vt600 had both of those features. After buying mine I did some measurements of the forks and gas tank and discovered a Vetter Windjammer fairing would fit on it. I proceeded to fabricate a bracket that mounts the fairing to the bikes frame. It just barely fit with very little clearence for the forks in the fairing. I had a Honda CX500 back in the early 80's with a Windjammer and loved it. My VLX with it's old Windjammer is just as nice. Later I found Vetter Bags and Trunk and mounted them as well. My VLX is now a light touring bike just like the old early 80's Honda GL500 Silverwing. I'm also riding it a lot more having put 43,000 miles on it from the 1,400 it had on it when I bought it after it sat unused in a basement for 8 years. That Windjammer is still better than any fairings sold today. They are not hard to find because Craig Vetter made and sold hundreds of thousands of them and were so well made most are still in like new condition. You can even get new parts for them from Craig Vetter's website.
YES. i was thinking the same thing. There was something very familiar about his voice. But you'd think with 11 million his dad left hime he could get more.
Got mine 2005 vlx 600 last May. Its putting a smile on my face everytime I ride it. Easy to maintain. I went to a Harley demo day, and rode the Sport Gluide and they talked me into the Road Gluide (guess they figured out how old I was). I enjoyed the day there, time to go home on my vlx thinking this was really going to suck. I was so surprised i had a big smile as I hit the highway . I'll be keeping it a while longer. I will want a bigger bike as my rides get longer but for the rides I do now 100 miles or so this is great. Plus 70mpg and low insurance as a bonus . My insurance would double with the Sport Gluide.
I think I like the thoughts of a 4 speed. It’s kind of a little aggravating with a 5 speed when dealing with a towns full of stop lights. Constantly up to fifth down to first gets really old after a while.
comming from a guy who had harleys since my 20s i can say harleys are prom queens (high maintenance, expensive and theyll cheat on you after a while) honda and others like them are like 1967 wives, theyll have your back and welcome you home when the war is over lol. you know why you dont see so many honda shops along the highway because you bike is not gonna break down. i was in the harleys more than on them, i always had that feeling they were gonna turn on me like a crazy old dog at any moment, plus the crowd is so judgmental! i have hung on with some mean street dudes and funny thing is they were most of the time on what they could afford because they didnt just bar hop. THEY RODE EVERYWERE!!!
MahaffeyMoto I’ve done a lot of mods to mine, I was going to bob it but my wife and I actually enjoy riding two up on this bike over my 883 that I sold
I've always liked the Shadows. I've had a few of them (750s and 1100) but I have yet to own a 600 VLX. I'm looking for a cheap one so I can make it my own and bob it to some degree. I'm riding a 1300 VTX right now, but a 600 looks like a nice all around size just for short trips and bar hopping. (don't drink and ride)
Mam kilka motocykli, niektóre są mocniejsze i dużo cięższe od Shadow .....Shadow vt 600 też mam i uwielbiam ten motorek najmocniej, daje naprawdę dużo radości i szczęścia a jazda nim to magia ❤

Yes
Absolutely 70 mph is the sweetspot. I always wear earplugs or Bluetooth earbuds, wouldn't matter what bike I rode, wind is the same.
Nice bike, makes me want to ride
Great video, you have a lot of wants, stick to Honda, great bike! I'm wondering what a good price would be on a 1996?
I just got a 1995 for 800.00 but valued at at least 1500. I need to put on new tires. She is a beauty. Needs just a little spit shine.
I did the same thing. Went from a Honda rebel to a vlx 600
Does the 600 have a little more leg room, than the 250? I have a 250 now, and need to stretch my legs just a little, as I am a little cramped.
Bought mine for 1k with 2500 miles.
Tbm,LLC damn that was a steal
I bought mine for $600 it's 1996 I love it I put a wider front wheel on it and it rides so smooth now
If you want really smooth ride put a 165/80 R15 car tire in the back. It is cheaper too!
how tall are your z bars
8 inches
Insurance is higher because of the price being high af
AAA+++Bedford, Texas
insurance is higher because of theft i think
Honda is light years ahead of Harley.
