I'm 21 years old and just started Atenolol 2 days ago (25mg). I've always had issues with white coat syndrome and I'm generally an anxious person. I've been sent for a boat load of tests including EKGs etc. Everything has come back good with one exception being that my Adrenaline levels are slightly elevated (surprise surprise given I have anxiety). Like I said I started 2 days ago and have seen drastic improvements both physically and mentally. I no longer get that gut feeling of being anxious and my heart rate has been more normal as its not responding to the adrenaline in my system. My BP would normally be anywhere between 150-160/80-90 at the doctors with heart rate at 130-140 and at home as I always felt very nervous to take my BP at home because I feared it would be high. Now taking 1x 25mg tablet a day my BP has been around 125-135/60-75 and heart rate 70.

I’ve been taking Atenolol for almost 2 weeks. The label is told to measure & not to take with bps under 110. I’ve never missed a dose. Tonight, I’ve measured 3x & all in low 100s. What can I expect if I skip dosage?

@@nownotlater2670 Believe it or not, I have my first perscription, but never actually started it yet.
I'm still having a hard time understanding why he perscribed this to me, when my blood pressure has always been normal....I know it protects your Heart, but I'm afraid it might put me into the low blood pressure zone.
Basically, I'm afraid of new meds.
I haven't let my cardiologist know i haven't started yet, or am considering not taking it all.

After a heart attack, my husband was on this for several years. He developed a breathing issue that he dealt with for several more years. We learned that long term use of this med can cause loss of lung function. To my understanding, it stops the cilia in the lungs from working. It takes years to recover from it even after going off the Tenormin/atenolol, and you can have a re-occurrence months and even years later.

I was taking metoprolol for about 7 months, 12.5 mg in the morning and 12.5 at night as needed for POTS. It worked well enough, but i started to look into atenolol, and read that the sleep issues associated with other beta blockers weren't present in atenolol. Also, instead of taking metoprolol twice a day, i'd only have to take the atenolol once a day. Are there any other differences in how these meds work? Does one work better for tachycardia than the other?

I took this medication at 50mg by mistake!! Think I took like 3 to 4 1st day & had horrible day with asthma!! Then not knowing what triggered my asthma the next morning I woke up feeling better but still mild asthma!! I proceeded to take 2 at single dose. Then all of sudden I had server asthma attacks that lasted all day!! I immediately know this was the medication so I stopped use!! Now yesterday I was super duper drowsy & struggling with asthma!! Today not drowsy but still having mild asthma & getting short of breath easily which never happened to me before this medication!! So this gonna clear my system soon?? I'm hoping as I do not have health insurance!! Please tell me this will get better when out my system & how much longer??

Same happened to me at 25Mg, I noticed the medication still works at 12.5 MG without working my asthma up. I ended up in the ER yesterday due to this and thinking it was covid, but today i am fine at home watching youtube. but maybe try 12.5 mg and see how you feel? I am not a doctor and not recommending u take my advice. I am Prescribed 50 MG twice a day, i would die if i took that dose.

@@balu9618 I didn't use any medicine after stopping it. I was using it for palpitation and angina, which caused high bp. I later discovered that I had h pylori infection in my tummy which I treated and the side effects were the high bp, palpitations and chest pain.
If atenolol is causing you chest pain and not helping with the bp, go back to the doctor for a review and change of medicine.
Stomach ulcers/gastritis and anxiety caused my symptoms. Atenolol wasnt for me. I took magnesium tablets which help me. I also changed my diet, stopped sugar and reduced carbs. Took some herbs like garlic, ginger, turmeric with lemons. And mostly importantly looked to God for divine healing. It's been over a year and my bp is back to normal with no bp drugs.
