NO, I study with them and they work damn hard and they have actually made me a more productive person! However, I also find that, as a white girl, I am also presumed to not be studious/ be a hard worker and it took a while until people fully took me seriously so it works both ways. Moral of the story? People suck aha :)

Hii! I highly suggest you try reading poetry by Nikita Gill and Rupi Kaur. They are both South Asian descents and incredible poets/writers. Nikita Gill covers a lot of topics and uses a lot of her creativity in her writing. She also wrote a book that retells classic fairytales but with a more modern, feminist, and ambiguous touch. Rupi Kaur writes a lot about overcoming trauma, getting back up on your feet, and loving yourself. They also represent South Asian culture. :)
Hi! Not asian but some South American (specifically Chilean, because im from Chile ) poets are Pablo Neruda, Gabriela Mistral, Violeta Parra (she’s also a songwriter and a textile artist) and Nicanor Parra.
I haven't read this book yet but I heard that "the hate u give" is a amazing book about a Africa American teenager and the struggles she faces with racism
Thank you for promoting the brown cultures too because usually non-asians consider asians as only those with a "Chinese face" and the brown ones are simply Indians. Non-asians simply stereotyping asians as only the "Chinese faces" and the brown people go down without any recognition from the world. These book recommendations are fantastic and everyone looking for good books would probably read the quality books

It’s seriously so disgusting how some people have been treating Asians during COVID-19, this is not a time to cause a divide between cultures but to come together ❤️
As an asian american, I've had to deal with a lot more racism due to corona. It breaks my heart, so thank you for using your platform to speak out about this linh!💛
Another recommendation is “Sadako and the thousand paper cranes”. My fourth grade teacher read this book to my class and she was so emotional to the point where another student had to finish the book while she was crying at her desk. I think without realizing, this book shaped me as a person and that it changed the way all of my classmates saw Asian culture.
i'm so excited to read a handful of these recommendations i feel like sometimes when it comes to minority groups we can focus so hard on our own people's problems and that causes us to forget to acknowledge that there are other minority groups as well that have similar struggles and sometimes even completely different ones you've never really paid any mind to i hope the books i've chosen will allow a deeper perspective into asian culture and social struggles 😊 amazing video ! 💞💞
omg i have been so bothered by the fetishization of mixed race people!! I'm so glad I'm not alone in this. I'm shocked that this is so normalized and really hope we can all take the time to reflect on our own prejudices.
Just an FYI - Jamaica is a multi-racial country (as is *all* Caribbean nations), so when you talk about someone from there, you need to be ethnic-specific if you're focusing on race. Saying your bf is Jamaican doesn't actually say what race he is.

Soraya Grigoriou ; thank you for considering my suggestions, here are some From Yasar Kemal you could read: “Memed, My Hawk” Sabahattin Ali: “Madonna in a Fur Coat” Elif Shafak: “The Forty Rules of Love” or “10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World” Also you could read “Serenade for Nadia” by Livaneli.
This actually made me cry when I realized I lost my love for literature and just the way you obsess over the same books that I did make me realize how much I have lost myself. Also the discussion of race and such just made me feel some kind of way and the representation that isn't as present;. It pulled me into an existential rabbit hole and for that I am grateful.
one of my favorite by a south Asian is "the love and lies of Rukhsana Ali" it's about a Muslim lesbian who has to go to Bangladesh after her family finds out. It's such a great book
Definitely some good inspirational readings here. The best way, however, is to believe in your own self worth and not letting anyone treat you like you are less than because of your race, ethnicity or religion 🙌💯
Ofc! But we want people who don't have an open mind and heart to different cultures and identities to learn that different does not mean bad or unequal.
Recommendation: The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan (One of my favorite books) - It's about the relationships between Chinese-American women and their Chinese mothers. It deals with how the characters' lives are shaped by the clash of Chinese and American cultures.
umm i hope this is ok but i made a diverse book masterlist thing a little while ago to highlight different kinds of diversities in books? It's divided by like, culture/ethnicities/identities, and I try and bring some authors of color or lgbt+ authors too, and I try to update as I read and hear about more! as a bi indian gal who reads it's really important for me to find representation :) this is the link if anyone wants it haha: docs.google.com/document/d/1AwFLSKVmFAvg7isRLgX7pbz9UlCADJgoiT65mFieTmg/edit?usp=sharing
I recommend Ru, it is written by a Vietnamese born - Canadian novelist. It introduces a Vietnamese girl who came from a wealthy family in Saigon and due to the country’s crisis, her family was forced to fled the country. The novel talked about issues the character faced as an early immigrant living in Quebec, Canada. This book is too good to pass!

*LOVED this video linh!* you're so eloquent i could listen to you talk about nothing for hours :) i definitely recommend The Kite Runner and also A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini SO AMAZING

Thank you for your videos, they help me to learn english :)) And thank you for this books ideas, lets fight the racism yeaaaah :D In France we say "bisous😘" ;)
This was such a good video, I love how you express yourself so much!! I've read so many of these books and a few of them are def on my all time faves! Representation is so so important and books are such a good way to do it 💕✨
AHHHHHH yes The Poppy War is one of my all-time favourites. I try so hard to recommend it to my friends but they refuse to pick up a book that doesn't have Sarah J Maas or Shannon Messenger on the cover. It's such an inspiration in terms of worldbuilding and character development and relationships, I can't give enough praise to it.
Love these recs! Definitely added a bunch in my goodreads TBR. I recommend Something in Between by Melissa Dela Cruz about a Filipino immigrants in America.
I highly recommend Patron Saints Of Nothing by Randy Ribay - a coming of age story about a Filipino-American teenager uncovering the truth about his cousin’s murder. So informative about the drug war (for someone who’d never heard about it before :/ ) but it’s also so touching and sweet at times ! I can’t explain it properly but believe me when I say it’s amazing !!!
I've added so many books to my to-read list because of this video! Your enthusiasm speaking about all these books made my heart warm, you have so much energy! Thank you for the recommendations. Kinda made me want to read books about my own culture now! Gonna go read rn!
This whole video I went back and forth between watching and adding titles to my want to read on goodreads! I can’t wait to check out these recommendations 🥺
My old middle school made us read Inside Out and Back Again I really loved the book and even though I wasn’t Vietnamese or Asian-American I could relate to issues of being the only person of color in a predominantly white town It also brought me new perspective on other races ❤️
I love you linh for using your platform to spread these messages and inform people of the real life problems that people all around the world face in their daily lives. There are so many issues in society that we don’t give enough attention and care to. I can’t wait to read these books and gain more knowledge on other cultures and learn more about the issues, people, cultures and lives of others that, as a young white teenager, i’m not exposed to enough.
I'm not Asian American but I do want to share my experience against racism. My mum is middle eastern and greek and my dad is Russian. I grew up in a very Russian and Slavic household. And when we moved to America I could speak fluent English but people would make fun of me from a young age for being Russian. And legit called me Stalin. And discriminate against me for being Russian. They would call me a spy, killer, etc. It really hurt but I am proud to say I am a proud Russian :) and to all the Asian American people out there have an amazing day yall are some of the most cultured, sweet, nice and amazing people ik :D EDIT: my mum and dad are both half Caucasian and no for all the white people watching you are not caucasian. being caucasian comes when you are from the Caucasus mountain region which is near and partly in the middle east that makes you caucasian. Being white does not make you caucasian please do your research because you are literally defining yourself as a different race. Some additional information my mum and dad are both half Armenian (Armenian s a country in the Caucasus region) but my dad is half Russian and my mum is half greek. this makes me half Armenian and 1/4 greek and 1/4 Russian (i think) but I just wanted to share my experience with growing up being partly Russian and yes I did get discriminated for being caucasian because whenever I said I was they would say that caucasian people are white. Which again is not true. So thank you and gn www.discovermagazine.com/mind/stop-using-the-word-caucasian-to-mean-white
Hey I’m Armenian too!!! Sorry you had the experience this! I’ve actually always wanted to learn Russian!!! It’s sad though because I feel like the Armenian community tends to be slightly racist too (at least I’m the area I live, I have no idea about diasporas in other countries). Also ya totally agree with the Caucasian thing, it’s very misused
@@neptoon928 ayyy armenian gang yeah there are some that are racist but are changing and im happy to say most are changing for the better. have a great day :D
@Jessica Elliott-Ferrier from where ive looked being caucasian means your from the caucus region which there arent very many asian countries in and near it but in no shape or form does caucaasian mean you're white
To racist people: Stop get some help, be friends with all. You just passed by your best friend/soul mate because you were too worried about where they came from or how they looked.
(Found your channel recently and love your unique, creative style). As an English teacher I wanted to thank you for sharing this. I am researching the lack of diversity in classroom libraries to improve mine and I love finding recommendations directly from BIPOC who can speak to their authenticity and how they felt reading the books. It's even better to hear from someone in high school so I know my students can relate. So truly, THANK YOU.
halfway through this vid i was like "omg i wonder if she'll mention Marie lu!" so happy to see her on the list and thanks for all these other recs linh
Thanks for adding so many books to my (concerningly long) list of books to read. I love how you're not avoiding important issues that need to be talked about in a way that doesn't make me lose faith in humanity. Keep creating amazing content!
don’t know who will see this but I want to recommend The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee!! plot wise it’s chick lit, technically it’s historical fiction, and reading experience is A++ because of the protagonist’s practical, unassuming, yet witty and unique voice! Like seriously it’s become my favorite book ever. it’s about a Chinese American girl living in the South at a time of increasing segregation, and handles issues like racism (African American and Asian), family and love, and of course her coming to her own and learning to love and accept who she is.
Linh, you are such an inspiration to the people who lost their hobby of reading. And i thank you for bringing back the 'bookworm' side of me. Always have a nice day! I'm glad i came across of your channel, and i will stay here until the end.
hey!! i highly recommend watching the half of it on netflix if you havent yet, the main character is a chinese american girl and i really enjoyed it :))
the issue about mental health and the stigma surrounding psychology is so relatable to me because i've been struggling to deal with my extended family's opinions on my decisions to take up psychology as my college major. since i started in uni in fall 2019, whenever i visit home for the weekend, they'd always make comments about how irrelevant psychology is and how it doesn't make enough money to make me rich or at least financially stable. it's so hard and painful to hear those words from them, especially when i've loved psychology ever since i became an advocate. thank you so much for bringing this up.
something in between is also amazing!! it talks about a filipino girl who has to deal with her american lifestyle and her being undocumented in california. it’s so so so good!!!
not sure if anyone's interested but there's this book called "how to hide an empire" by daniel immerwahr, which is a dissection of america’s supposedly reluctant desire to colonize the world while actually doing it :•)
I loved this video so much! The Poppy War, Love From A to Z, and the Ember Quartet are some of my favs! Also, thanks for including brown ppl and South Asian rep in this too because I typically see people mean East Asian when saying Asian.

Woah that sounds really good I will have to check it out. Thank you for the recommendation!
Definitely some good inspirational readings here. The best way, however, is to believe in your own self worth and not letting anyone treat you like you are less than because of your race, ethnicity or religion 🙌💯
Ofc! But we want people who don't have an open mind and heart to different cultures and identities to learn that different does not mean bad or unequal.
wow, linh's really out here helping us survive this quarantine
i- brown girl representation??? I'm stunned. Will I see myself in a book?!!
I fr can’t stop saying this but i flipping love how so many viet youtubers speaking out about Racist people thank you...🥺✨
Recommendation: The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan (One of my favorite books) - It's about the relationships between Chinese-American women and their Chinese mothers. It deals with how the characters' lives are shaped by the clash of Chinese and American cultures.
Any other Asian Americans here?🙋♀️
Thank you so much for making this video Linh!!
umm i hope this is ok but i made a diverse book masterlist thing a little while ago to highlight different kinds of diversities in books? It's divided by like, culture/ethnicities/identities, and I try and bring some authors of color or lgbt+ authors too, and I try to update as I read and hear about more! as a bi indian gal who reads it's really important for me to find representation :)
this is the link if anyone wants it haha: docs.google.com/document/d/1AwFLSKVmFAvg7isRLgX7pbz9UlCADJgoiT65mFieTmg/edit?usp=sharing
Thank you for this
Thank you for doing the most
thank you sm!!
omg @ everyone saying thank you,,, you guys are too sweet thank YOU
Thank u
I recommend Ru, it is written by a Vietnamese born - Canadian novelist. It introduces a Vietnamese girl who came from a wealthy family in Saigon and due to the country’s crisis, her family was forced to fled the country.
The novel talked about issues the character faced as an early immigrant living in Quebec, Canada.
This book is too good to pass!
Dude linh......you are a badass. I love that you are using your platform to inform others about the struggles and hard ships of being asian but also the positive and AMAZING things about Asian culture. You are truly one of my favorite youtubers and i hope i can be as ~knowledged~ as you are.
giirrrll my fav book right now is ' perfume: the story of a murderer ' its the 80's french classic and oh my looord its amazing. you should totally read it cause its worth not sleeping
I was supposed to read that for my English class, but then we ran out of time.. :(
Is it written by someone asian?
Brendons Forehead no, it’s just a recommendation for a good book
Ok but why does Linh remind me of a badass Lane from Gilmore Girls...
Raniiiaa Q she actually reminds me of a better asian version of rory
Carmen Villalobos yea I see that! Except I rlly started to hate Rory in the ending.
Raniiiaa Q i also hated Rory in the ending. In the beginning she was so sweet but then she made some bad choices and wasn‘t a good character anymore.
Raniiiaa Q yesss thats why i mentioned that she was better lol
I’m participating in readwithcindys Asian readathon, and all the books I’ve read so far are great
She also has a google doc with tons of asian book recs! docs.google.com/document/d/1y6Qb_DWPzI5EXtrwQ_O8A6IWzc37ENKMBt2HvdftLjw/edit
Same!

ah I'm so glad you uploaded today on topics like Asian rep Linh! So glad other UA-camrs like Dustin Vuong and Jazzy Le are focusing on topics like this
i love all of your book red vids, but this especially touches my heart. it makes extremely happy & emotional to see a person who’s passionate about her race & culture and seeing you representing and presenting our community & world. you’re truly lucky and amazing 💗
Dude I love your channel so much. You inspired me to start my own, and just thanks for everything you do :)
*LOVED this video linh!* you're so eloquent i could listen to you talk about nothing for hours :)
i definitely recommend The Kite Runner and also A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini SO AMAZING
Hello Linh !
I am french, sorry for my bad english :/
I want to say you that you are a wonderful person, I like your energy and your creativity ! Thank you for your videos, they help me to learn english :)) And thank you for this books ideas, lets fight the racism yeaaaah :D
In France we say "bisous😘"
;)
Nina nlg hey what’s up i’m from france too :)
AHHHH THAT ENDING THOOOO. AND ALSO THE SECOND BOOK 👌😭
wow, linh those animations about where u are from looked soo good! Your aesthetic is just GOALS ✨
the intro is priceless! i am so glad you're participating in the readathon - everything i've never told you was so beautiful!
AND FRONT DESK BY KELLY YANG !! its so good both of the books in the duology made me cry
Love these recs! Definitely added a bunch in my goodreads TBR. I recommend Something in Between by Melissa Dela Cruz about a Filipino immigrants in America.
Her videos just gave this vibe that I love
when you said "see you in the cosmos" i legit started clapping-
your videos make me feel as if they were hugging me to put me in a good mood
I highly recommend Patron Saints Of Nothing by Randy Ribay - a coming of age story about a Filipino-American teenager uncovering the truth about his cousin’s murder. So informative about the drug war (for someone who’d never heard about it before :/ ) but it’s also so touching and sweet at times ! I can’t explain it properly but believe me when I say it’s amazing !!!
FRICK THE DRUGS BRO I have so many emotions about it and duterte's harsh laws, I would love to read about it thank you for the rec!
I've added so many books to my to-read list because of this video! Your enthusiasm speaking about all these books made my heart warm, you have so much energy! Thank you for the recommendations. Kinda made me want to read books about my own culture now!
Gonna go read rn!
i love how this included south asians .thanks this is well appreciated
I like how happy and excited linh is by talking about books lmao, more book recs in the future! love u!
In Canada EVERYONE takes off their shoes in the house I’m so grateful at least Asian Americans take them off inside.
So do polish/Eastern European people!
@@annacibiniak2268 other Europeans (in my case, Germans), too! I've never understood how this isn't a thing everywhere lol
same here in the uk !!! it's only americans who don't
This whole video I went back and forth between watching and adding titles to my want to read on goodreads! I can’t wait to check out these recommendations 🥺
My old middle school made us read Inside Out and Back Again
I really loved the book and even though I wasn’t Vietnamese or Asian-American I could relate to issues of being the only person of color in a predominantly white town
It also brought me new perspective on other races ❤️
It really hurt but I am proud to say I am a proud Russian :) and to all the Asian American people out there have an amazing day yall are some of the most cultured, sweet, nice and amazing people ik :D
EDIT: my mum and dad are both half Caucasian and no for all the white people watching you are not caucasian. being caucasian comes when you are from the Caucasus mountain region which is near and partly in the middle east that makes you caucasian. So thank you and gn
www.discovermagazine.com/mind/stop-using-the-word-caucasian-to-mean-white
Hey I’m Armenian too!!! Sorry you had the experience this! I’ve actually always wanted to learn Russian!!! It’s sad though because I feel like the Armenian community tends to be slightly racist too (at least I’m the area I live, I have no idea about diasporas in other countries). Also ya totally agree with the Caucasian thing, it’s very misused
@@neptoon928 ayyy armenian gang yeah there are some that are racist but are changing and im happy to say most are changing for the better. have a great day :D
I thought that as a little kid because i'm white and asian but that is 100% wrong
@Jessica Elliott-Ferrier from where ive looked being caucasian means your from the caucus region which there arent very many asian countries in and near it but in no shape or form does caucaasian mean you're white
@lafayette le baguette bruv i-
thank you so much linh!!! as an asian-american this video warmed my heart and i am definitely going to be adding these books to my list.
So truly, THANK YOU.
earlier than a white family at the airport
I freaking cackled.. 😂 I immediately thought of my mother who always has to be two and a half hours early.
Attack my family like this again and we’ll have a problem 😳😂
This reminded me of Home Alone lmao
My parents are always 2 hours early for an appointment 😂
Molly Barry my mom and I are asian and we have to come to the airport like 3 hours early
halfway through this vid i was like "omg i wonder if she'll mention Marie lu!" so happy to see her on the list and thanks for all these other recs linh
I'm definitely going to read see you in the cosmos
Thanks for adding so many books to my (concerningly long) list of books to read. I love how you're not avoiding important issues that need to be talked about in a way that doesn't make me lose faith in humanity. Keep creating amazing content!
don’t know who will see this but I want to recommend The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee!! plot wise it’s chick lit, technically it’s historical fiction, and reading experience is A++ because of the protagonist’s practical, unassuming, yet witty and unique voice! Like seriously it’s become my favorite book ever. it’s about a Chinese American girl living in the South at a time of increasing segregation, and handles issues like racism (African American and Asian), family and love, and of course her coming to her own and learning to love and accept who she is.
heard. 💜
Recommendation seconded! The book also has quite a dominant narrative about intersectional feminism
linh’s current highlights and this lihn’s!! And they’re also both talking about books ❤ i have found a lihn parallel
now i really want to read "everything I never told you" ordering it on amazon 👌🏼
Linh, you are such an inspiration to the people who lost their hobby of reading. And i thank you for bringing back the 'bookworm' side of me. Always have a nice day! I'm glad i came across of your channel, and i will stay here until the end.
Off topic; I love your shirt so much ✨
I loved my Asian American Lit course that I took this year. Some added books we read: The Sympathizer, No No Boy, and Comfort Woman
hey!! i highly recommend watching the half of it on netflix if you havent yet, the main character is a chinese american girl and i really enjoyed it :))
the issue about mental health and the stigma surrounding psychology is so relatable to me because i've been struggling to deal with my extended family's opinions on my decisions to take up psychology as my college major. since i started in uni in fall 2019, whenever i visit home for the weekend, they'd always make comments about how irrelevant psychology is and how it doesn't make enough money to make me rich or at least financially stable. it's so hard and painful to hear those words from them, especially when i've loved psychology ever since i became an advocate. thank you so much for bringing this up.
I love you linh from Philippines 🇵🇭❤️
something in between is also amazing!! it talks about a filipino girl who has to deal with her american lifestyle and her being undocumented in california. it’s so so so good!!!
Please read Khaled Hosseini's books... "a thousand splendid suns"
"kite runner"....heart breaking and educative....
I shed many tears to these books
Kite runner broke my heart
Yesss!A thousand splendid suns is an absolute masterpiece!
omg linh you look so so so good in this hairstyle i love it 😭😭❤️✨
not sure if anyone's interested but there's this book called "how to hide an empire" by daniel immerwahr, which is a dissection of america’s supposedly reluctant desire to colonize the world while actually doing it :•)
i love how now i’m starting to read more that that’s when these types of videos are being made. thanks for the amazing recs ❤️
OMG! I just wanted to say that you're the reason I started a youtube channel and I love your videos so much !
I loved this video so much! The Poppy War, Love From A to Z, and the Ember Quartet are some of my favs! Also, thanks for including brown ppl and South Asian rep in this too because I typically see people mean East Asian when saying Asian.
book recs: throne of glass, salt by the sea, harry potter
Yaaassss Throne of Glass! I own the whole series! Rowan is just mmmm *chefs kiss* 😍
funny how throne of glass is one of the whitest and least diverse series out there
@@catalinagarcia4819 LMAO FACTS so is harry potter 😔✋ but they're like the only two series that i can stand out of the white young adult fantasy section
I read Amal unbound at my school library, and it was such a nice book! I finished it in like 2 days and it really gave me inspiration on why we need to be grateful and how we have to be careful with some of our actions. btw really good video!
And the thing that people don't know there are more countries in Asia other than China ,Korea and Japan.
India,Pakistan , Malaysia ,Vietnam , and many many other countries are is in Asia too people ... Please take Geography classes
I love the way your so calm and peaceful 😊
