I took fashion design in college and we were taught never to wear horizontal stripes, what amazes me is how many sweaters and t-shirts and dresses are sold like this.
Hi Carol, I don't think they have it out for us. I just don't think the designers always know what is best. That's why I'm here to tell you what to look for and what to avoid. 😍
I went shopping with this video "in my head". I was choosing between two tops, both with a V neck and 3/4 sleeves. One was a gorgeous solid blue color, waffle fabric, with puffy sleeves. The other had "monotone" pastel vertical stripes, and "straight" sleeves. I really wanted the blue top because the color and fabric were beautiful. But, in my head, you said "no - those puffy sleeves are NOT your friend". The stripey top with the narrower sleeves was MUCH more flattering. And so - thank you!! I think that you saved me from another mistake!
Nancy you were meant to do this! I really enjoy watching your videos. All good advice and the inserts of you highlighting a point or a funny clip exaggerating a point are spot on. I use all of these tips to hide my tummy. I carry my extra weight in my tummy. I've been looking for more v-neck t-shirts but it's not always easy to find them. For some reason most manufacturers make crew neck instead.
All good tips except for the cap sleeves and the tunics due to two things. 1. Cap sleeves if your upper arms have cellulite, which you can have even if you're skinny. 2. Tunics if you are short as I am make you look dumpy and doesn't elongate your legs. Thanks for your videos.
Thank you so much for these helpful tips! I love your videos! I looked at some pictures I took over the weekend and I absolutely hated them because what I wore added so many pounds! I wore everything you suggested not to wear! I was horrified, but now I know what to change.
Some of these tips apply to wanting to look taller as well. A petite 5'1" hourglass, I find a v-neck is my best friend, as is cuff rolling, and pant lengths no shorter than my ankle. Videos like this are immensely helpful. Thank you Nancy.
I am 5'3". I love ankle pants. A tall friend once spoke a great truth: a tall person with short pants and a short person with long pants both look like they bought the wrong size.
I totally agree about V-necks; but as a 5’1” petite, I find tunic tops and longer jackets and sweaters make it look like I have no legs. I tend to front tuck or side tuck most longer tops to show that I do actually have legs. I am pretty much alone in thinking cropped pants are not flattering on anyone, but I love ankle pants. Because of the little slit at the outside of most ankle pants, I can’t easily alter them; but I find that if I buy cropped pants in a regular size they fit me perfectly as an ankle pant. So..hoping you taller girls keep liking your crops.❤
Thank you for your "Nancy rant" on body positivity, you are so positive and reassuring, THANK YOU! We can all be happy AND healthy in what ever body you're in!
Such good tips. I’ve gained weight ALL OVER. Need to draw attention away from every part of me. I wear only yuk tshirts and stretch capris. I hate everything I put on from my bra out. Message for clothing manufacturers: as a group women are aging (duh). PLEASE consider making more dresses and tops with elbow sleeves. Short or sleeveless shows off what is for many our second big problem area, our upper arms. An elbow sleeve is so complimentary and comfortable, I'm always on the lookout for them. and I love ponte pants, the fabric is thick enough to avoid camel toe, UCK, and still be comfy and slimming.
@@americafirst9144 Agree. Now that summer is winding down I realize I've mostly avoided my sleeveless shirts in favor of a short sleeve or lightweight 3/4. I just feel more attractive without my turkey wing and jiggly parts on display, especially when I raise my arms. Ugh. Oh gravity, though art a cruel mistress!!
Excellent video! Didn't know about the print problem, but now I do. And I am going to try the cap sleeve and try to find it in a V-neck. I'm also going to look of the Makeover Guy and his mom. Thanks for a really helpful video.
Oh boy! I thought I knew all the tips for drawing attention away from my tummy area, but I've been totally missing the one about rolled sleeve length. Thanks. That one tip is going to be a game changer for me.
I only wear vnecks. A few years now. Took me a little to switch all over. I do feel like I’m choking in reg necklines but I know vneck helps so much. Love that “round equals pounds “ Btw love your hair and glasses.
Great video. I'm a pear shape and the tip that doesn't work for me is the draping cardigan because they emphasize the hips. Crop or longer is better for me.
I agree. They usually stick to the derriere if you are pear shaped. If you already have open front cardigans, try shoulder pads to make them hang better.
Subscribed at 3 min in. Thanks 🇨🇦 I’m going to love this. 62 and live my life (working as a RMT) in yoga capris, scrub tops and Birkenstocks. No one’s looking at me but my clothes are so dull!
Hi Jill, I like your tips! I've always recommended a modified version of that. If you have long and loose on the top, go skinny on the bottom. You can wear a capri, just don't let it end at the widest part of your calf...go with something a few inches longer. If you have loose and flowy pants or skirt, pair it with a fitted top. 😍
I enjoyed your video, but I have three thoughts that you might appreciate: 1. I would’ve enjoyed it more if the models were more the age of the audience you’re addressing 2. I never met a woman in this age group who is concerned about her belly but not about her arms so while your comment on cap sleeves may be correct for overall slimness, cap sleeves reveal arm issues in a manner that most women this age would like to avoid and therefore are a solid no-no. 3. It would be great if you showed both versions of your suggestions, such as the same outfit with calf capris versus ankle skinny pants.
I am 5’4 120 lbs. Yesterday I took all of my sleeveless and cap sleeve clothes to consignment. The arms are a problem for just about all of us eventually!

Ive always liked a classic Oxford shirt, but for women they always make the bottom cut straight accross, as opposed to tails on the shirt like the men’s style. So i wear men’s shirts and i get compliments❤
Great question, GGB! I wash my linen shirts in the washing machine on cold water then hang to dry. If needed, I use a steamer to remove any large wrinkles.😀
I agree with a lot of these things and I’ve learnt some new things too. One question why are the ladies modelling the various styles nearly all young when you are aiming your videos at the older audience? X

I don't want to go back to big baggy jeans. Do trends matter over 60 y o? Or should we wear what helps our proportions?
I'd like to know how to use scarves to make a plain top/dress jazzy. What size? What tie? I want to draw eye up from my tummy.
Hi Donna, great question! I've added it to my list of videos to make so stay tuned! 😀
The V-neck with a very long neck makes the neck look longer. Any suggestions there?
Please consider leaving the example photos on the screen longer (those of you and the fashion photos). You can narrate, and we can have more time to take in the information provided. Thank you.
Love your haircut Nancy!
Thank you so much, Christine! 🥰
Are those live orchids behind you? They are so beautiful!!
Yes, Darlene, they are real orchids in this video! 🤩
Love your tips. Thankyou
I'm so glad you enjoyed them, Elaine! 😍
Ive always liked a classic Oxford shirt, but for women they always make the bottom cut straight accross, as opposed to tails on the shirt like the men’s style. So i wear men’s shirts and i get compliments❤
Great video! Tips I hadn’t heard before
Thank you so much, Debbie! 🥰
I agree 110% with your bra advice!
Do you launder and iron your linen blouses?
Great question, GGB! I wash my linen shirts in the washing machine on cold water then hang to dry. If needed, I use a steamer to remove any large wrinkles.😀
I agree with a lot of these things and I’ve learnt some new things too. One question why are the ladies modelling the various styles nearly all young when you are aiming your videos at the older audience? X
Great tips!
Marie, thank you! 😀
