It's great that it exists, but it also shines a light on the absolute pathetic nature of what passes for a "free press" in the UK. The glory days of investigative journalism are long gone; the press is part of the problem now rather than part of the solution.
A revolving door between politics and media. They are each other best men and bridesmaids and godparents to each others kids. Complete and utter conflict of interest.
Free press? Didn't even show the world's biggest and one of the most historic cases at the ICJ. It made the middle pages in the Mirror.
Brilliant as ever, thanks Ian
Ian Hislop is a legend and a man of incredible integrity
Piers Morgan tried to start a smear campaign against him but the worst that he could dig up was a photo were Ian hadnt had a shave for a few days.
@@Jesus_H._Tap-DancingChristI don't know if that's true but it made me laugh. 😂😅🤣
@@philb4462It's a true story. One of Morgan's hacks actually tried to get gossip from the vicar at Ian's church.
Brilliant. Wonderful man.
Ian hislop for prime minister please !!!
A treasure of UK media. The one talking truth to power for decades
I'm absolutely inawe of Ian hislop .what a man ,and more importantly ,what a human being .👍
LEGEND !!! Wish he was leader of the opposition I would be running to vote for him
He wouldn't want to sully himself getting involved in politics.
@@TheWebstaff That's exactly the sort of person that the UK needs though.
@@CurrieNerd call me a cynic but I reckon there's more to being a successful leader than stringing together a couple of zingers on a TV show.
He'd be best used as speaker, a speaker who actually makes politicians answer questions.
@kapitankapital6580 It's his fearless digging into the Corruption and Dirt in Politics and corporate doings for Private Eye mag for Years that counts....not the odd zinger....constant Zingers, often sued for!
We love you, Ian!
Ian Hislop - you truly speak exactly what is and has happened and precisely how this conservative government think and behave.
This is no way to get your Knighthood Ian, even though you deserve it. All credit to you sir.
I don't think he'd want a knighthood. Just look at the kind of company he'd be keeping...
@@biccytrollox Yes, you’re right. I strongly suspect he’d refuse it
Thankyou Ian, your one of the few that speaks truth.
Ian is a Top Man. He speaks the truth shame he's not Prime minister
Making him PM would be a waste of a great journalist!
Hear hear! Ian for President…
Ian would never want to be Prime Minister.
Nah, cos then the moment you do that, you can’t in good conscience trash all the shit ones we’ve had for fourteen years.
Ian Hislop is eloquent, knowledgeable and straight! He picks up and refutes the lies at the moment they are uttered. Exactly what is needed in this era of lies and spin.
People like ian hislop expose politics in UK for the utter hopelessness that it really is.
Adore this man! His words are absolute fire.
Has he reached the status yet of National Treasure? He came to our studio once to record a voice over. He was a really nice and polite guy. He had turned up on the wrong day so we had to do some shuffling but he was really humble and apologetic. Really good to see.
Yes
Oh no! Don't start on the National Treasure crap. He challenges the nation and is not a puppet of the establishment to be exploited for whatever reason.
Absolutely brilliant.
PRIVATE EYE 🎉🎉🎉 Speaking Truth to Power.❤
Love Ian, he's always fantastic for telling us the truth.
Very intelligent chap. Id love to meet him just so he can explain politics to me, cos I struggle.
So do alot of other people.
This is how we got this bunch of shitweasels in government in the first place.
We all struggle with politics. This Govt want us to struggle.🤣
Integrity is such a rare commodity. And with humour too.
I don't want to think of a world without an Ian Hislop.
Ian Hislop much respect for him
Just LOVE Ian hislop
The day Ian Hislop retires is a bad bad day for this country. He's served this country via the Private Eye and have I got news for you for decades, longer than most MP's work for, and he's still going.
Private Eye was onto this years ago.
Enjoyed so much, watched it twice.😊
Nice one Ian, an absolute pleasure to listen to you. Great work!
Brilliant well done Ian
What a man we need more people like him 😊
A true 'National Treasure'
What a god awful creature, patel was ,and probably still is .
Ian you say it as it is thank yoi
Absolutely brilliant Ian you were full of facts and commonsense. You sorted them out one by one. Thank goodness for people like yourself who have a voice and platform to express it and you do it very well indeed. Thank you. Brilliant.
A National Treasure
Ian Hislop is brilliant 🤩
Ian is a national hero, deep admiration for his tenacity and honour in consistently challenging the injustice and deception that has taken hold in our governments, regardless of political persuasion. On the days I feel ashamed and depressed to be British, Ian always restores my faith
It's a shame that 'journalists' these days are afraid to ask the tough questions or to think for themselves. Ian's a shining example of actually listening to what's being said and forming a constructive opinion on that.
You see the (lack of) thought process going through younger journalists' heads when someone says anything, they barely acknowledge what has been said, even if it's something worth pushing further on, they're only interested in reading through their pre-determined questions and getting out of there.
Be more like Ian, please
Why do tories try and go up against Ian Hislop? Theres not one of them that have an ounce of his intelligence or wit. Its like me successfully debating a 5 year old.
"They dont like it up them"...Mr Mannering...!!?
Wish we had more people like Ian Country would never of got into this state
HAAAVVVVVEEEEEEE!!!!!!!"! ....never have .....NEVER HAVE. der!

@@keithmarshall8796 He a journalist not a Politian maybe more Journalist should be holding his government to a better standard I am doing ok
@@keithmarshall8796 shit argument. UK parliament is a corrupt, toxic cesspool of class privilege. It appeals to a certain type of self serving, morally bankrupt public schooled w4nker. Why would Ian want to be any where near this shower?
“you’re using the fact as an excuse and it’s not very convincing” very well said
I hope Ian reads these comments and knows how much we respect his opinion. Wish there were more people like him.
Why I love Ian Hislop so much. It doesn't matter from which political party the politician comes from. He will call out their BS on air.
He doesn't really, he is very anti-conservative, and very establishment.
This is a wonderful video, absolutely the pick-me-up I needed, thank you!
Brilliant ian the countries with you 🙌
May Ian live well into the 22nd century, cause we need him for this one!💯👏
Highly recommend Gerald Celente. This guy tells the truth and gives great advice.
I really don't like this deterrent argument.
I don't know any but... I really doubt that a rapist will stop raping because the sentence has went up. What's the idea? They were ready to do 7 years but 12 is too long? zzzz
punishment for any crime is rarely a deterrent. the main factor is likelyhood of being caught. if someone thinks they wont be caught, what influence could a hypothetical punishment even have?
I agree with you about the deterrent situation, it's lazy and it doesn't work. Right now most rapes are unreported and nearly 70% of rape victims drop out of investigations in England and Wales. So maybe they should start with looking at why that's happening.
You say this yet it's reported that a huge number of people believe in the government's Rwanda policy for immigration. The theory behind this policy is that potential immigrants will decide not to travel to the UK because there's a chance they'll get shipped to Rwanda instead. That's exactly the same principal as having a more severe deterrent for a crime, yet it seems so many people believe in this nonsense.
@@ince55ant Right. Every teacher knows that the punishment doesn't have to be harsh, it just has to be certain. Patel is a m0r0n.
@@bookie5667 where the numbers? Maybe the bubbles but all the support ive seen is for the refugees and not shipping them out.
.. not that they're actually shipping them out, they're just stealing your money under that banner.
There is some intelligent discourse left in this Country and it is coming from Ian Hislop.
Totally agree. Some people seem to think it’s coming from Nigel Farage…all we need to do is watch this video.
