- While traveling in Budapest, we decided to go on a CHIMNEY CAKE TOUR! Some call them trdelniks, some call them spit cakes, and in Hungary, they are called kürtőskalács. We love them! In this video... we will prove it! We love food tours, and this one was all about the sweet cinnamon and sugar covered chimney cakes found in shops and stands all over the gorgeous city of Budapest!
We toured all over Budapest and found the best chimney cakes we could. Watch along and see which one gets the best ratings!

ABOUT US
We are Nate and Katrina, two American expats living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and traveling as much as we can to see what there is to see! We balance a busy career and grad school while we explore Europe and beyond. We would love to visit every country in Europe while we live here, and definitely keep a list of our global “must visit” destinations.
We probably won’t look or sound like many other travel vlogs out there. We really want to give you a true view of us and how we travel and explore the world. Lots of food, definitely some jokes, and probably some swearing…. Hope you enjoy taking these trips with us!
I know it shows 7 blue jays as a rating, but Nate said 8. It was definitely 8. 8 bluejays for sure.
I am so curious about the taste of the bread which looks interesting in this video.😀👍👍
It’s really great! Thanks for watching the vid!
@@nateandkatrinadotheworld You are welcome. It was really fun to watch.🙏🙌🙌🙏
I pronounce them as turtlencks without pronouncing the u and Trilling the r. They’re all good if you get ice cream in the middle of them! The ice cream in central Europe is so much better than the stuff we call ice cream in the states. Molnar’s is the place I visited twice! And I gave up sugar the year before. Not that day.
That's a good pronunciation tip! We do love the ice cream over here. Thanks for watching!
Honestly, the first chimney cake has the perfect texture! Maybe undercooked, and i dont know the taste, but they used the perfect kind of flour for chimney cake!
Most others in your video used the cheapest flour, third one its okay... they can cheat the taste with a lots of sugar.
That makes sense. Even if a bit undercooked in the middle, that first one was really good!
yum! 😊 🪣 list
Legit, one of our favorite snacks in Europe!!!
Tourist-selfies....Answer: None! Actually so much better, real food here-good luck to explore!
We will be back!
You are nuts 😂😂😂
That’s what I kept saying… 😝
Have y’all done a video of Prague?
Not yet… we went there a couple years ago and loved it, but this was pre-vlog. It’s a great city, with amazing food and culture!
As a Hungarian, i must say that these chimney cakes that you buy on the street in Budapest are not really the real deal. I feel ashamed that Hungarians sell these. :(
An indicator of a good kürtőskalács is the fully caramelized sugar on the outside. The sugar coating should be shiny like glass, then rolled into walnuts and roasted a bit more over charcoal.
We will forever be trying to find the best chimney cake! Thanks for watching!
@@nateandkatrinadotheworld You should build a "kürtőskalács grill". That way you can make the best!
