Took my one year old 1.8 Focus to Dealers Ford Master Tech for the North West due to constant "knock". He assured me it was the VCT system that was naturally noisey and nothing to be concerned about. I then informed him that this particular engine doesnt have the VCT system.......Wouldnt trust "MOST" Main Dealer Techs with a push bike
I did a few of these belts and even with the crank pulley tool to line up the reluctor ring, you sometimes have to reset learned values/adaptives in the pcm - otherwise the ignition timing can be slightly out and although the car runs fine, it stops the stop start function working (background fault codes) It has been a while since I did one though, and I may have got away without resetting learned values last time 👍🏼
@@themarvelousvlog hopefully you won’t, But it does happen. Also found that the laser tool we used didn’t fit as well as the eBay special I bought afterwards when lining up the crank pulley
awesome vid once again. biggest job i've ever done myself is a clutch slave cylinder on my old alfa 147. now got a megane 1.5 diesel 10800 miles never had a belt and water pump change do you thing with the tools it's something i could tackle myself?
A mate of mine who owns a garage did one of these cambelts when these engines hadnt been out long and did the same thing car wouldnt start one tow truck later to ford dealers and they couldnt get it to start either so he had it back and worked out what u said in video with the crank pulley
Gunny the Milwaukee… I’m joking! You’ve got to use flywheel locking tool by removing the starter. That way you can torque the flywheel without turning the crank
Hi, how do u check the timing ? Is it with a special tool that was in video? & how u re timing if needed? By loosening timing chain & using drill bit to correct holes & re fit ? Very curious…
I paid £44 for a 5 litre,,of Mobil 1 fully synthetic...And there is a hugd difference in it compared to Comma or Drivetec ,,,the cold starts are much improved,,the engine is much quieter,,
Biggest mistake I made (within a week of going independent) was doing an ancillary belt on a Fiesta, I got distracted and left a ratchet on the crank when I did a test start, we all know what happened next 😅 Anyways yea anyone want any jobs doing i'm nice and cheap 🤣
Ford redesigned the ecoboost in 2020 (?) At least the ecoboost that had a wet timing belt, Back to a chain (atleast for the timing belt, not sure about the water pump) you can tell the difference by looking for the turbo. If its at the front it's a wet belt, if it's at the back it's a chain.
@themarvelousvlog they are crap to do. So much to take off, takes most of the day to do them and you need a 5x torque multipler for the crank bolt. The psa 1.2 turbo is a much easier wetbelt to do
Instead of taking the piss out of customers and laughing at them why not advise the customer on what good parts to buy next time. At the end of the day they are the ones paying your wages.
@@themarvelousvlogtransit ecoblue quite a nice job - 1.0 litre eco boost are the nightmare ones. I too am yet to do one, but there are lots of videos about to help. A little background about me- I’m an aeronautical engineer who hates working in front of a desk all day, designing and calculating things, hence why I’m here chasing my passion and became a business man and a mechanic. One thing that I can say is that fluid dynamics (area that I focused on the most as a student) is very complicated and isn’t as simple as it seems. It may be true that you’re ALSO paying some for the name but just remember, meeting a specification is the BARE MINIMUM. Now, all the additives and extra liquid engineering that ‘expensive’ companies have done to stabilise the oil, I’d say, is superior compared to cheaper companies like drivetec. That being said, as long as you change your oil often, it should be fine but if you’re taking your service all the way to manufacturer’s recommended interval of 20,000mi (on some vehicles), I wouldn’t trust cheaper companies to last that long!
@@themarvelousvlogthanks for clearing that up! Was wondering why you had sarcastic comments about the oil in the video! Just out of curiosity what oils would you recommend? I've heard Petronas syntium is a fairly good budget friendly oil.. and you'd like to think Petronas having formula 1 ties would be good... 🤷🏻♂️ I tend to buy Castrol but a lot of people have been making complaints about them recently..

you n john have a sick, calm, funny n educational dynamic its sick congrats to him doin his first timing belt, im still yet to do that one day #shook
Everyone’s shook with doing a Cambelt 😂
Those ford engine wirh welt belts are really good super quiet and efficient one of the best engines ever built i would say had many of cars too
Debatable 😅
i hope this is sarcasm hahaha
There's a reason why they are nick named the ecoboom.
If your a mechanic then you know its one of the worst engines in modern times.
you know nothing about cars, Been working a mechanic for 35 years and that engine is the pitts.

Love you two 🤪never afraid to have a go at anything👍funny as well🤪keep going 👍💪
I changed one last week on a seat ibiza , I went throttle body route too 👍
It may be the easier way to do it, I think… 😂
Love this guy, wished all mechanics were like this.... I don't think he'd come to kent to work on my car though. :(
If we have enough jobs booked your area, we definitely will
Glad you always show fails.. As well as successes'. Cheer's. See you in the next one. 👍👍

Use the tools provided. To check timing. If timing is incorrect, refit the tools and check again

Vauxhall change the whole rocker with gaset otherwise just gasket will leak again due to plastic warping
