While a lot of kayak anglers think having fully rigged running lights on their Yak is a good idea, they have to remember that they must meet the requirements set down in the Inland Rules of the Road. The Port ( Red...like Port Wine) and the Starboard running lights each have to display an arc of visibility of 135 degrees, for a total of 270 degrees. Then a white stern light that will be visible for the remainder of the 90 degrees aft. The rule for a kayak at night is to display an all around white light high enough to be visible 360 degrees. In a way this is safer for the kayaker too. It tells other boaters that a small craft is operating in the area. If a vessel sees standard running lights, they may assume your kayak is a larger powerboat operating at night and they may pass too close to you and your Yak at a higher speed than what would be prudent if you were displaying the light of a smaller craft. Those White LED lights are really nice for the yak and on your PFD as a strobe.
HELLO FROM OREGON; GREEN IS STARBOARD (RIGHT) RED IS PORT (LEFT) The way to remember it is green, right, starboard has more letters in it then left, port red. This is for all waterway vessel. The white light is mounted on the rear of the vessel indicates you are anchored.
Thanks for turning me on to these products. I mounted a red/green on the bow of my Pro Angler 12 by siliconing the magnet to the underside of the Hobie logo disk inside the front hatch. The magnet is more than strong enough to hold through the plastic of the kayak and the logo disk. I do have it tethered to the front grab bar in the event it takes a really hard knock and breaks loose. Great product.
Cool light. People do need to be aware of what light to use in their area. White light here in Florida indicates under oars. Which means a powered boat should yield to you and go around. However, if you had the red/green lights on a kayak the boat may think you’re powered and that you can move out of their way in time.
You are partially correct. The red green shows which side to pass on. So you head to their green side and they head towards your green side and no collision happens.
Interesting looking product. As my kayak has a motor, I will need the lights at night. It is important to not get run over by other boats and things at night because they can't see you. Kayaks tend to be difficult to see at night as they are low to the water.
Big congrats on hitting 10K. You have a good channel and more folks are realizing that. Nice lights, I wish I would have seen them before drilling holes for my LED strip lights that I installed for nav lights. We sometimes launch before dawn to get out on the bait. battery and magnetic sure would have made things easier. nice to see so many of your subscribers are experts in boating laws. best bet is to check your own local area laws because mine are a bit different than what some of these folks are saying. Mahalo.
Hey Phil, Thanks for the kind words bud! I really do appreciate all of the support! Yeah, I didn't realize I had so many boat Nav experts watching my shows... 😂
thank you for your videos been very helpful i my asking for to much but i have a pelican 110 have not seen many videos on it i am knew about kayaks could you do videos on it the only problem i have with it is the seat it move side to side how to stop it from moving thank you again enjoy your videos
My biggest questions about the lights would be 1) how long the battery lasts? I do a lot of night fishing for walleyes and I need a lot of battery life for those days when I fish all night. 2) how would the lights being right in front of you affect your night vision? I just replaced some of the LED strips where I mounted one of them with one of the lights slightly in my field of vision instead of pointing down at the water...it got kind of annoying.
The run time on high is 10-12 hours so it will definitely last you all night. On medium or low - which is all the light you likely need, the runtime is much longer. You can also use the red light, which is softer on the eyes and doesn't affect your night vision as much.
red is left, port side and green is right, starboard. Planes, ships and boats are the same all over the world. "Red right returning" if you are on the ocean. Keep the red light on your right when returning from the ocean or you will run aground. "Take care", Jim
the idea, i like, however i need it secured to the boat. a magnet will not work for fishing. the first time a fish pulls your rod into it, say bye bye to it. so can you screw it down?
John Baker , probably because there are too many water hazards for kayakers at night, ... Like trees, rocky areas, unknown waters, etcetera, ... And if you do not really know the areas where you are at on the water, common sense dictates that you need to get to shore for the night, ... Anytime after dark, out on the water it is a new world, ... Distances are different at night, and even though sound really carries at night out on the water, being on a low to the water kayak, you still might not be seen, ... especially if it gets a little choppy at night, ... Safety 1st, & foremost, ... ALWAYS!!!
So, ... I guess I'd be showing my age if I told you guys that I watched Captain Kangaroo, & Mighty Mouse, on a small black & white TV, back in the early mid 50's, ... No color tv's back then, ... And the TV was about the same size as a VW bug, & had lots of tubes in the back of it, ... Lol, ... No yellow school bus on tv back then either, ...HAHA!!!
New subscriber here. I have a question my plans are to buy a pro angler 12 but I need a trailer for it. My question is what trailer are you using for it?
Thanks for subscribing bud!! I am currently making videos on this trailer as we build it on here. I think I went over it a little in last week's video, but you'll see more of it very soon !🤙🏼
flyby8906 , I'm not really sure yet but that's something I'm gonna test by giving them a full charge and seeing how long they will last me. I'll definitely let y'all know! Thanks for watching🤙🏼
Shocked at price of them reviews were positive so got one also make sure you use the code shown on your link to get free mount and free shipping. Reviews say 10-50 hours charge. Thanks
And by putting the bow light , red/green , on you're giving boats the impression that you are able to maneuver faster than you can paddle/pedal. When boats can't see you're really a yak in the dark. I would never put a bow light on my yak.
This is really cool of you! I appreciate the giveaway! I could actually totally use some of those lights. I paddled out late, and foolishly didn't have any decent lights. I might check out a pair if I win that amazon gift card!
little spendy for me...at $99 for one light I think I will pass and according to the site they are not intended to be waterproof but they can be submerged down to 10ft

I used the bicycle bar mount and wrapped it around my carry handles they're awesome lights

Great video! I just ordered my red and green light for my kayak.
Merry Christmas! Love this light. Will be purchasing one soon
Jeez! Even with the light coming into the windows, it looks like youre holding a magic ball of light. Very cool. Ill be ordering mine soon

I love that light. Definitely will come in handy for early launches.
The short bus. Nailed it.
😂😂😂. Love it!!
I subscribed because you said "MASH the front" referring to the button. Very cool light. Just what I'm looking for.
Man, those lights are cool. I may have to pick some of those up. Congrats again on 10k. That’s huge! Well done buddy!
Thanks bro!👊🏼🎣
Those are sweet man. I'll have to check those out. Congrats on the 10k you're climbing the ladder bud! 💪😎🇺🇸
Thanks man!! I really appreciate it!!🤙🏼🎣
Dude these are awesome! So many different applications!!
They should make this with a solar charging system so no need for USB to charge.
They really are! And you can stick them anywhere!! I think I want to try the solid green ones out for attracting bait fish to the kayak at night! 🤙🏼
I bet it would attract bait fish really well!!
Congrats on 10k! Looking forward to your next diy kayak video!
Thanks!!🎣🤙🏼
Cool lights. The white one might be nice rigged on a pole for the 360 view light required at night.
Very good idea! They have TONS of different color options, check out the site... it’s pretty sick🤙🏼
That is a super nice idea! Love the idea of the magnet to change out.

Coupon code still works. Thanks for the idea. Will be putting these on my Nucanoe F10. Congrats on success. Over 15,000 subscribers as I watched this.
That’s great man, thanks for watching and I appreciate the support!🤙🏼🎣

Right on, thanks for the reply! Have you guys tested the battery life against cold temps (near or below freezing)?
@@b.s.fishing5902 Not necessarily battery life but we have tested in extreme climates and the device has performed at -40 celsius.
Merry Christmas!
I have an old Hobie Mirage. Not a single flat level surface on the bow. I will need to big brain a mount for it.
Lol I would buy this but kayak season in Alaska is practically 24 hours of sunlight lol
Nice I would be fishing all day
Merry Christmas.
Do you have a discount for these? $99 each is crazy!!
Both those are sweet if they could make a wireless remote for it I would be sold.
Same here
I was thinking the same thing. Remote would make it a winner.
If this came with a separate remote to keep by the cockpit I’d be sold
red is left, port side and green is right, starboard. Planes, ships and boats are the same all over the world. "Red right returning" if you are on the ocean. Keep the red light on your right when returning from the ocean or you will run aground. "Take care", Jim
Hi dude,,,,,how do you get your hands on these cool gadgets it's got me frigging stumped
Merry Christmas
They look marvellous. Where do you buy them
Congrats on 10k.
Thanks bro!!🤙🏼🎣🐟
These look cool
Love the light very cool
Not a kayaker, but have a question about kayaking. What do you do when a you are out on the lake an a boat come by making a huge wake?
Just float right over it.🤙🏼
Hang on.😁
Position the bow of kayak toward the wave.
the idea, i like, however i need it secured to the boat. a magnet will not work for fishing. the first time a fish pulls your rod into it, say bye bye to it. so can you screw it down?
Yes , with the other mount I showed 🤙🏼
@@KayakUSA1 . great, thx
cool, I'd wondered why no one talks about lites in evening or at night.

Would you have the link for the lights, I didn't see it on top.
Mark Sornson Sure, if you click the little down arrow under the video it will show you all of the links for the lights🤙🏼
awesome channel
Green, starboard. Red, port. I think of it as red had less letters, port has less letters. Green has more letters, starboard has mor letters
