"Now Joe's gonna give him some argument cuz Mark's saying 'what did he do' Joe just get over there and umpire will ya?" "Joe West just wanted to stick it right up his behind and he did."
As a Cubs fan, I WISH the Cubs LOST that day just so Hawk could see his team win one more time in the booth. I’m so glad that he got to see both Chicago teams play that day. North Sider or South Sider, I think we can all agree that he will be missed... ------------------- Good Job Hawk Harrelson, we will always remember you in Chicago.
Thanks for the kind comment. As you probably guessed by my handle I'm not a Cubs fan but, I have to hand it to the Cubs for being a class act and acknowledging Hawk at the end of the game. Very moving.
I'm a Cubs fan and I have to say hawk was one of the best along side stoney who I still can't believe crossed over lol anyway I know he's been gone from the game for a while now but he was the best and yes he gone lol
There will never be another Hawk. As a White Sox fan we are going to truly miss him. What he felt was exactly how I felt. The man wears his heart on his sleeve and he loved the same team I do. Nobody could replace him and we love you too Hawk
Quite the sendoff for the Hawk. I'm a Cubs fan, but I've always liked listening to Hawk ... he made the game fun. Best for your future, Hawk, and hope to hear you again one day.
Well, Larry, remember ... Hawk was paid by the White Sox, not by MLB. It was his job to root for his team. Bland, blah announcing is fine on a network broadcast, but if MLB ticket carries the Sox game from the Sox station, you get Sox announcers. That's how it works.
@Larry Barry Oh who gives a shit. First off, Hawk was always announcing alongside more objective announcers like Steve Stone, DJ, and Wimpy back in the day, so it's not like you only heard Hawk ranting and raving for the Sox. Secondly, standard, bland announcers are the problem with sportscasting today. So many have no personality or charm to them, all they do is talk in a monotone voice with little to no enthusiasm when the team they're announcing for is doing good. I don't know about you, but I'd rather listen to an announcer who is excited and engaged with their team than one who could give a shit less, and who sound like they see announcing as a chore rather than a hobby. Thirdly, baseball is not like the NFL where all games are broadcast nationally on Fox and NBC. Hawk announced for Chicago stations, that virtually only Sox fans watched/listened to, so the people watching at home are going to be happy to hear Hawk.
3:43 No Hawk, Thank YOU! What a joy to listen to you since I was little kid. I was told that I used to repeat your home run calls as a child. You deserve the send off you got. What a career you had.
And this game is “oh-vah”. Best wishes Hawk! As a Twins fan he used to drive me nuts with his home team calls: e.g. “our guys 4, their guys nothin,” etc. His home run call grew on me in recent years. May he be blessed.
My Grandpa was a DIEHARD White Sox fan as I'm a DIEHARD Cubs Fan but it was my 1st time to be at the Old Comiskey Park in 1990 which was the last season for it and for an early birthday present Grampy was able to introduce me to Hawk and I have to say that he is one of the nicest gentleman around the profession of Announcing despite what he has said about umpires. (FTR I'm an umpire and I disagreed with them but still respected his opinion and knowledge of the game). He DESERVES to be in the Ford Frick portion of the HOF!
Hawk, I am 24 years old. You have been the voice of the Chicago White Sox my entire life. No one can do it better than you. Since i can remember, every white Sox moment has been called by you, the legend. You are the straw that stirs my drink. I would like to end on this quote that I’ve heard from the legend himself, “YOU ARE AWESOME BIG MAN” Enjoy your retirement. You deserve it!
Hawk there is always the Senior Golf Tour. U r the best in everything. I first met Hawk in 1965 when the Sox were playing the KC Athletics. I was 7 yrs old. & Hawk asked me who was my favorite player when he signed my program. I said Joe Horlen. He said, I never get a hit off that guy.
I've been watching this team since I was 8 years old. Without a doubt, this is the saddest moment that I have ever seen. Hawk will be missed. Not by everyone, but absolutely by me.
As much as he's got on my nerves, he's truly a great broadcaster. I tip my hat off to him for being the heart of the South Side. Good Luck Hawk .#GoCubs
My favorite Hawk memory is this it's not one in particular but it's that relaxing feeling you get when you would watch a sox game late at night in the summer and it would be lopsided and he would just go into random stories and bits either about the players or the game. I really don't know what it was but I just always felt so relaxed and at peace during those types of nights. I truly miss those nights
Haha awesome memory. Couldn't rely on the sox to be worth a damn on the field, but hawk made it fun. Dude was like family always hearing his voice in the living room
Hawk is an absolute LEGEND. His commentary and catch phrases made me a Sox fan for life. Thank you sir for giving us so many special moments to remember.
Years ago when Hawk played for the BoSox, during a rain delay he went into the stands just to sign autographs. IIRC, a fine was imposed for violating league rules against leaving the playing field. But Hawk didn't care as he always enjoyed drawing attention to himself. Did he break the rules? Who the heck cares! In the old days baseball was always known for its many characters. Players, coaches, even the umpires had their own unique style of play and of making calls. No sameness, no uniformity, no conformity. Baseball was always a game of characters each unique in his own ways. As an old school fan, former amateur player & coach, and as a free lance reporter, I sure miss the old style of play, the old game of baseball. Hawk was one heck of a unique character that made the game as great as it was. They just don't make them like this anymore. Bless his heart!
Interesting to read where Hawk got fined for leaving the field. In 1977 son and I attended a Sox Angels game in California. Sox bull pen sat in general admission seats behind the pen. Rule must have been changed.
I remember when I was a little kid before I was a Sox fan, my mom would be watching the game almost every night on TV and his voice just echoed throughout my childhood. Then I started watching with her and would light up when he would shout his famous catchphrases. We love you hawk. God bless.
His final “this ball game is ovah” is so emotional because Hawk represents a time of my life when everything was so much more simple. Mid 2000s was the time of my life. Go Sox!
From the Sox winning it all, to buerhle and Humbers perfect games. Some of the most cherished memories I’ve had as a kid were with the hawk commentating in the background. I stopped watching baseball a few years ago and I’m just now realizing that he retired last year. Truly an end of an era for Sox baseball.
Hawk& Wimpy back in the 80's and 90's were the most entertaining broadcaster combo ever... Hawk's story's during many slow game really kept things moving along.. Hawk will be missed.
I was at that game and almost teared up when I saw Hawk tearing up on the large screen. He's been the announcer for the Sox since before I was born, and I will miss him so much. I wish him the best. I know people either hate him or love him, but for me, I loved his passion for the White Sox, and he will call it how it is. Thank you, Hawk, for all you did for the organization! :-)
in 68 i was 13 and brought a big sign to fenway that said "go hawk" with a drawing of his taped wrists. he launched a moonshot way out of left center over the 379 sign. running down the first base line he looked up and gave me a thumbs up. after the game he came out of the dugout called me down to the field level, signed the ball he had hit, took off his cap and gave it to me, gave me and handshake and said thanks!! i never forgot it to this day!
I hope Hawk is enjoying retirement,as anA’s fan I enjoyed watching the White Sox when they were on WGN Superstation because of this man. Baseball needs more original characters like him
Mad respect to Hawk for all of his years of calling games for the White Sox. All those famous catch phrases of his will certainly be missed. #HeGone #AndThisCareerIsOvah
They say never mention a no hitter/perfect game in progress, but Hawk broke THAT tradition when he said Mark Buehrle has a 'perfect game going into the ninth.'
As a Dodgers fan who had Vin Scully retire as the Dodgers once they made the playoffs, it’s weird seeing a commentator seeing a team lose but still have a great day.
It just won’t ever be the same listening to 670/720/890/1000/what-have-you in NE Indiana. Shit was crystal-clear late at night. Hawk was an influence to me being a Reds/W. Sox fan....
I'm a huge braves fan but I'm also a huge baseball fan. Hawk made me laugh so many times with his real feelings on his whiteseox he alsways said what he felt no matter what. He is one of the best.Hawks is in the same category as vin scully skip caray Harry carry joe buck there will never be another. And you can put that on the booooooooard. YES
"Joe West deserves a suspension is what he needs. He needs to rest" my favorite quote
"He is just brutal!"
@@shibadoge633 "He's a joke is what he's becoming. He's becoming a joke to the umpire perfection"
"hawk" needs a rest. A real long one.
@@scottholder4776 yea no one likes you
"Now Joe's gonna give him some argument cuz Mark's saying 'what did he do' Joe just get over there and umpire will ya?"
"Joe West just wanted to stick it right up his behind and he did."
this actually made me cry at the end when he was crying, because for all my life i’ve been listening to him announcing the games and i loved him
Im a Cubs fan, but Hawk is an absolute legend. Not hearing him commentate will certainly be weird and there’ll be a huge gap.
As a Cubs fan, I WISH the Cubs LOST that day just so Hawk could see his team win one more time in the booth. I’m so glad that he got to see both Chicago teams play that day. North Sider or South Sider, I think we can all agree that he will be missed...

Acually his last call was against the Red Sox and the White Sox won 10 to 1
Danny Walczak last home game
There will never be another Hawk. As a White Sox fan we are going to truly miss him. What he felt was exactly how I felt. The man wears his heart on his sleeve and he loved the same team I do. Nobody could replace him and we love you too Hawk

Quite the sendoff for the Hawk. I'm a Cubs fan, but I've always liked listening to Hawk ... he made the game fun. Best for your future, Hawk, and hope to hear you again one day.
Jack Bagley cheers from a die hard Sox fan,I felt the same about haray

Heated by others, but loved by the south siders. Thanks Hawk for all of your color commentary.
@Byron Summers The great thing about him is how knowledgeable about the game he was. He gave a lot of history lessons during his broadcasts.
nah, he's the best non-Bay Area broadcaster I've ever heard. really going to miss hearing him on clips.
I love him.. he was great for baseball. Such a mainstay in announcing.
*hated
Ewww south side.... dangerous and dirty
