A damn shame. Aqua was one of my main reasons for getting into hololive. Her early Minecraft streams and shenanigans are fond memories of mine. I will miss her greatly.
Aqua's probably one of my most watched vtubers. But I'm surprisingly not that sad. She went on hiatus a lot in the last 2 years which meant that a part of what she did in hololive was truly challenging for her. So her graduating and becoming an indie *or* join a smaller org to just chill stream whenever she wants will be good for her. I mean she is big enough to retain a large portion of her viewers if she becomes indie. And if she wants to join a smaller org like VSPO or Vshojo she can literally *force* those orgs to accept ridiculous terms because she is freaking HUGE.
Same, can't believe it's already 6 years. I rarely watch holo since last year, their growth is really amazing, 100k used to be a milestone whereas now 100k is achievable even before debuts
We gotta remember that Hololive is also an Idol company, meaning that the girls can't really keep doing what they're doing once they go past 25-30, which is usually when Idols retire, or start thinking about retirement.

@@TheJjcczzshe really likes playing games and even thought about going pro in an apex female squad. She wants more game time and I think she knows what she gonna do
A VERY good run considering there was not only zero problems with her but she leaves LOVED. As sad as this is, it's absolutely great _SHE'S_ in control of her future. *I **_HIGHLY_** doubt she's leaving without a plan.* She probably wants to grow or explore in other areas that don't fit into Hololive activities. Whatever it might be she leaves with YEARS of experience. I personally feel she already has a job waiting for her. She's not going to grad over creative differences and not have a direction already ready for her much less in mind.
A lot of people getting worried about the "differences" mentioned but realistically Hololive was not the same as it was when she joined. It's very typical for some employees to leave when these things happen. Maybe she just wants to stream and have a few events here and there but with the global expansion (and success) of Hololive maybe things got a little bit hectic for her. OR she just wants a change of pace and decided to do other things. Either way she was one of the biggest and well known talents for Hololive and it's sad to see her go but best wishes to her and whatever she wants to do in the future.
If she returns as an indie, then this is probably the case. Working for Hololive these days is very different, it only shifted toward being an idol group AFTER Gen 2 had already debuted.
This is something people really need to remember. The hololive of today is not the hololive of 2017-2020 that a lot of the earlier gens joined in with. The environment has totally changed, and that might not be in a way they particularly jive with. I’m honestly surprised more haven’t chosen to step away with how different things have become.
Other talents have spoken about the fact that Hololive is very different now and they are have a way more busy schedule because they have plenty of sponsorships. Some of them, they can choose to accept or refuse, but some are mandatory. Maybe it's too much stress for her and she wants to take it easier.
Pretty much all of Hololive's graduations have been ok, the only times it has sucked is when a contract gets broken and girl has to be let go (Mel)/is fired (Rushia), thus preventing any sort of graduation from taking place :/.

For someone who has been watching her since 2018, i am really sad. Her introverted cuteness is one of a kind in the entire vtubing sphere and she had to overcome alot of challenges. She has grown to be a wonderful woman and please continue to support her till the very end and after.
Besides, it's a well deserved rest. She worked really hard and never let us down. Good thing is that she graduated without any drama like other vtubers. Man 6 years really flies...

depends on the age of the talent if 6 years is long enough for them to do something different with what they really want to do. Age plays a factor, the older you are the more you want to do something else than sticking to what you have. But I guess that still boils down to the person itself.
6 years is nothing to scoff at. Sure you're sad she's leaving but I'm happy she's leaving on her own terms. Don't be too sad guys. Just keep supporting her until her last stream 🙂.

@@hafirenggayuda what i mean by planned is she already have the approval from management that she can graduate and announced it to all holomem in discord. Watch pekora stream she even goes to lunch with her and talks about it to the point even saying to aqua "please don't graduate".
Just to name a few: two hololive VTubers and A-chan, a potential future economic recession, an assassination attempt on a former US president, and a rapid increase in crime from illegal immigrants. Being optimistic in this day and age is the definition of delusional.
honestly this is the best for her, because she can now do things on her own for a bit until she decides to be with another company. Or perhaps doing things by herself, which in this case those who are really big in streaming in general doesn't completely need agency to support them as much.
If there is one thing that the Niji-Doki situation taught the world, it's that unless you plan on joining Holo, Vsho or Phase, you're better off going solo
She has a big following. She'll have no problems going solo. Of course it's still gonna affect her growth in the long run, but on the other hand she'll have a lighter schedule, which is probably why she's graduating in the first place.
@ropewash4432 Just go down the list of most of the recent talent hires. Most were directly "poached" from other agencies. It also depends on the terms in the NDA. In general, NDA's for vtubers aren't as bad as ones for D-land and McD where the actor have to actively deny any and all involvement. Subnote: While we pretend to be idiots that don't know the PL of talents that's hardly the case. Hiring executives aren't idiots and neither are the talents.
I think I see what probably happened here... Aqua did not so much "quit", she merely decided not to renew her contract with the company... Cover, and every other of the established agencys, emulate/build on the foundation of the traditional Idol industry.. one of these aspects is the standard length of their contracts.. which is usually 2 years.. after that both parties decide whether they want to continue the project.. if yes then they renew for another 2 years, if not then the Idol graduates.. Aqua's statement, as well as Cover's and most importantly her graduation being so close to her 6th anniversary (f*ck man time flies) are clear indications that both parties could not come to terms regarding the future direction of the project.. and so mutually decided not to renew the contract and instead part company.. which is of course quite a melancholy/sad development, especially in the moment.. and she will be much missed as one of the foundational pieces of the company and the industry as a whole.. but sadly that's just the way things go in showbiz/the entertainment industry sometimes..
It makes me wonder what the issue is. From what little we know, Hololive has always been good to the point of generous when it comes to contracts, payment, treatment of employees. The only thing I can think of is maybe she felt trapped in her persona and she wants a fresh start? I always saw Hololive, especially after gen3 came out as sort of a walled garden manicured by the management and vision of the corporation. I imagine it would be hard to grow oneself once you filled your spot in the garden
@@TheCalmPsycho I would put an asterisk beside 'generous'. They are a Japanese company after all and they still can enforce certain rules behind the scenes if they feel like it. We also have no idea what's going on behind the scenes and the talents themselves can't speak out about it because of NDA. We have no idea what happened during Magni & Vesper graduation with them not renewing their contract but that does definitely leave some question on the table regarding Holostars and this graduation. At the end of the day, I would rather support the talents themselves and not the company.
@@TheCalmPsycho My guess is that she just wants a quieter environment. She's mentioned stress and burn-out before, and she spoke about Hololive's growth. She's always been a quiet and shy introvert, and Hololive is just too much for her now. She's never been one to slack off, and for her it's better to leave on a high and move to something more relaxed than to fade away. She has more than enough cred to be a stable indie, or move to somewhere like vspo where concerts and performances aren't as big a thing.
@@TheCalmPsychothink so too, perhaps she wanted her character to “grow up” as the persona is still pretty in the younger persona style, limiting what she could wear and do on stream.
Genuinely feels like an end of an era to vtube as a whole when one of the hololive oldguards are leaving. Sora was the first hololive talent but Aqua hard carried the brand in its early days when Nijisanji and UPD8 were still the topdogs. I know the phrase "X crawled so Y could run" has been beyond overused at this point but one could argue that Aqua really was the "it" girl of hololive. Her graduation is definitely a big loss to Cover. She has achieved so much during her time in hololive (2 whole Sololives!) and despite having disagreements with hololive's current direction, I could only wish that she truly left on good terms and that her graduation is one that's worth remembering for years to come.
She was the spearhead of Hololive up until Pekora grew in popularity. It also coincided with Cover's early push into China, and Aqua was the darling of the Chinese people then.
i hate that crawled run quote. it must be very frustating for Sora who pioneers the company to see her account's growth slowed down to a crawl while her kouhais break 500k and 1 million one after another by playing games & being comedian in an idol company.
I think its important to note that this is the first graduation we've ever had like this in JP and kinda in all of Hololive. We basically knew that Coco was graduating for about a year before hand and it was kind of set in stone by outside factors, the grads from 1st and 3rd gens' were both non-optional, 5th's was so short after debut that the company acts like it never happened, even ENs grad was after a very short time and had its own outside factors. This is the first graduation that is actually coming purely by them wanting to step away from the company. She had a long and great run and these type of graduations will sadly become more common in the future as more talents move towards retirement. But its important to note that this graduation is going to hit the company and community in a way we haven't experienced yet, its gonna be a rough one
It's scary to think that it's already been 6-7 years for some of the older talents. I don't even dare think about the graduations coming our way... maybe even double or triple graduations at a time with friend groups leaving together... then slowly the old gens disband... it's like the end of an era...
Coco literally left due to creative differences. She explicitly said so many times and made abundantly clear that what she wanted to do as a creator did not align with Hololive. It's made even more clear by just looking at her content immediately after she left Hololive and onward. "this graduation is going to hit the company and community in a way we haven't experienced yet" I feel like you must not have been there for Coco's graduation. I think Aqua's will rival Coco's, but there is no _surpassing_ the impact of Coco's graduation. It made national news, and I wouldn't be surprised if Aqua's does as well.
Is sad because now only the 0 gen and last jp gen (holo X) are the only jp gens that will remain with 5 members, almost every other gen is just 4 members now...
Yup. As a pro wrestling fan before a vtuber fan, I learned to get used to it. When any company grows big, eventually this kind of thing happens all the time. Contract expired, creative differences led to the decision of not renewing said contract, talent and company part ways.
Remember, she is one of the biggest introverts of all of Hololive. When she started, they were mostly a group of friends playing games together (vtubers) and doing some idol stuff every now and then. Now they are a giant company, with Holofes, HoloEN concert, plus at least 2 more PPV events every year. Add all the sponsorships, solo concerts, 3D, conventions, collabs, etc, turning into a primarily idol company. My assumption is that management asked her to do more idol stuff, but she wanted to stay more as a Vtuber. Kudos to her if she decided to back down of that huge platform, instead of being miserable doing stuff she wasn't comfortable doing. Hope she enjoys her life going forward and still be friends with the other holomembers.
That’s the reason why idols typically quit around 6/7 years when contracts are up. It’s intense work especially with decent enough popularity. It’s great for us fans but exhausting for idols. Some people who get into Hololive probably didn’t think they’ll do more idol work than streaming. Although I think Cover can negotiate and be more flexible, I’m expecting some more graduations from older gen.
My thoughts also. Which is kinda sad cuz i personally feel that the idol market is kinda saturated, and not that popular in the West. Conversely, variety vtubing is still growing and in terms of cost/benefit seems better than large concerts and big productions. Idol stuff costs a ton, whereas a vtuber with a fun community can just have fun and break even or live off it. Yes you need to be blessed by the algo but still. I also get the feeling a lot of the holo EN girls are kinda burned out, signaling to me how exhausting the Idol stuff is behind the scenes. But honestly, i rather have vtubing fun with a small community than a couple huge concerts in the year. I hope holo keeps the balance.
The introverted character may just be an act for show. She sings and dances in concert...before hololive she cosplays in front of her webcam.not really the behavior of a real introvert.
@@sdekaar Most Hololive members are introvert, and you definitely could enjoy dancing and/or singing while being introvert. It's the intensity and frequency that could be the problem.
This is sad but I’m glad Aqua is leaving because she’s ready to go and not because she’s forced to. Six years is a good run and it was with a lot of accomplishments. A lot of things can change during that time. Hope Aqua rests well and wish her success in her future career.
At the end of the day, we need to remember; this is the Holomems' JOB. And everyone, at some point, leaves their job. i am just as sad as everyone that our onion will leave us, but at the same time, she deserves to follow her own path in life. And she's probably feeling a little bit burned out and tired. I hope she has enough to go on a nice trip, have fun, decompress and find herself a new job that she loves and is loved at just as much as Hololive.
This is true. Although personally i feel the ideal period at a job is 7-10 years. Longer than that and you become furniture and shorter feels like a gig. Im also sure vtubing is one of those jobs you can basically do forever if you have your rythm; so it's likely the behind the scenes idol stuff that was growing too demanding. But alas it is what it is, I'll miss her and i hope she reïncarnates ❤😢

watame's tweet really hit my heart... Aqua iro palette and kaisou ressha are at the top of my favorite hololive songs, the former got me into hololive music along with suisei's next color planet. Shion's tweet as well :(((( so many memories with aqua from her minecraft shenanigans with marine and shion to startend to her having befriended a lot of holomems today, she's really come a long way and while it's sad, im still so happy for all the memories and friends she's made and couldnt be any prouder.
I remember the day the copyright apocalypse happened and a lot of Holomems, especially the older gens, lost hundreds of videos from their channels overnight, many of which remain lost or hidden to this day. Aqua was hit by it particularly hard...she lost something like 600+ videos from her channel overnight. She dropped tens of millions of viewing hours from her channel in an instant...I think 60 million hours or something back in the day when Hololive was much smaller and nowhere near as popular or well known and that was a LOT of viewing hours for the time. She'd not long since finished streaming a long stream and upon finding out what had happened she immediately started streaming again. She was panicked...terrified. You could actually see she was visibly shaking through her avatar and could hear in her voice how scared she was. I don't think it was exactly known initially what was happening other than all of a sudden they were all hit with a massive wave of copyright strikes. (some videos were lost entirely as staff and managers deleted rather than took down videos...Subaru's manager and others did that) Aqua set out immediately to do a 24hr stream right there and then to try and get some video back on her channel. She battled on even though you could tell she was shaken up big time by what had happened. She kept stopping after an hour or so, restarting a new stream and doing something different so she had videos going to her channel. Fortunately management had the sense to get her to stop eventually but until then I remember thinking how brave she was trying to be in what must have been a pretty traumatic moment for her...I always had a lot of time for her after that. If she'd quit when that happened or when the N.W. Taiwanese were dogpiling her for months or when the Apex mob gave her a hard time also for months then I wouldn't have been surprised...but no way did I think or expect that it would happen now.
Aqua was one of the first vtubers I knew of thanks to the Collab with Dawn of the Breakers, which was before I even knew what Hololive or vtubers was. It's crazy how much crossover appeal these girls have. She will be missed as Aqua but I know she has a wonderful future ahead of her.
Damn, this is sad to hear. Aqua is such a sweet presence, and she'll be sorely missed. Watching her grow as a person was one of the reasons I got interested in the JP branch. But hey, it's her choice, she had a great run, and she'll get to walk away with her head held high. Good for her.
We all always hope that the creators we like will stay around forever. We want to see them be like Markiplier or CaptainSparklez, we don't always get that but we have to enjoy the time we had with them, I hope we get to see her again. But no matter what I just hope she's happy and that she has enough money to just chill and do what she wants. (I wish we'll see her somewhere else but that is just a wish)
I fear for the worst, that Aqua is just the tip of the spear. As Cover change their direction, quite a few older members might feel left our or that it is not what they want, and eventually decide to split way. Recently Ame even had a light complaint in the lieu of "I just want to stream games, ya know". Not sounding good right now. The members signing up mainly for streaming is feeling the change.
It was a fun 6 years. Sad day to rain, but hope she will have better future and fun times whereever she decides to go next 😭😭 Gonna miss Aqua. Let's make the last month her best month ever!
I just logged in and this greeted me. Tbh I wasn't expecting this and kinda expecting Shion considering how long she's been gone. Well, good luck to Aqua in whatever she wants to do in the future.
All things must come to an end I suppose. The girl’s been there for about 6 years now. Doesn’t make it any less sad but let us see her off with a smile!
Regardless of whatever reason these talents are graduating, they've been in Hololive a long time now (in virtual years). It's inevitable that we'll see the OGs go one by one. And we can only hope to make the best of what we have left. Not just for Ateshi. That said, just the sudden announcement from Akutan is nothing short of heart-wrenching. I'll never get used to this. At the very least, Aqua's is a formal graduation. So we can send her off with cheers. And all her content will still be available post-graduation. Either way, super-introvert gamer maid with an onion for a head... You will be missed in this HoloPro sphere.
Aww man.. I joined the vtuber hobby only recently and have been thinking about how older veterans feel when their oshis are graduating. I know I would one day get that experience myself eventually, but I didn't expect it had come so soon.
Not everyone wants to be an "idol" in the literal sense of going on stage , singing and dancing without the option to not going to those event. I totally unserstand why Aqua would just want to be comfortable in her own pace and play games. I would also expect more others to come to similar decision if Cover maintain being an "idol" is mandatory.
I mean it was bound to happen 6 years is a long time to give to a company. At some point talents are going to be tired of the grind and would like to rest; or move on to future endeavors. We're just witnessing one of the first generation member graduating. There are lot more people that are bound to graduate from the starting gens. All we can do is thank her for the memories and fun times, and be glad you were there to witness all of them.
5 days ago I was watching her Karaoke. When she mentioned the topic I couldn't believe it. Today I wake up and see that she is leaving. I hope she has a lot of success in her future. I just hope that a large number of people support her in that last stream.

You forget that we already lost Sana from EN 2nd gen (back when it was Council), Kaoru from Stars 3rd gen, Kira and Suzaku from Stars 1st gen, Gamma from UPROAR!!, Magni and Ves from Stars Tempus.
Just an assumption but it feels like she just wants to be a streamer Vtuber and enjoys it way more than being an "idol". Being an idol is probably not what she really enjoys but is obligated by Hololive contractually. Even so, seeing that she spent 6 years with contract renewals in Hololive instead of just quitting and joining another bigger agency like Nijisanji in those years shows that Hololive really takes better care of their talents.
I think when other mems go to graduate it will end up like this. The girls balance so many plates between streaming, choreography lessons for concerts, planning special content for birthdays, promotional collabs with companies, song originals and covers etc. Hololive is a marathon long sprint. Even with breaks you could just be tired from the constant hectic schedules. It just makes sense for Aqua when she’s the biggest introvert on top of it.
Yea, if you're constantly being shaken around for shows and you're en introvert, the mental toll must be huge, I can imagine having so many voices around you. Hope she's well, and she'll be deeply missed.
Can't believe I've been watching Hololive long enough to see one of the greats hang up their hat and move on from the show. I'm definitely gonna be on that stream.
Good bye gamer maid. However i think corpo Vtuber is starting to run its course. That after you have big recognition you can make a new channel for yourself and work your own hours
I remember watching a Vtuber clips compilation video about 4 years ago, and it has Aqua in it. That clips compilation was my gateway into this rabbit hole, in a sense Aqua was also my gateway.
It had been a mixed year. THe things taht were good (like the 3d debuts, Justice, the holofest) were amazing, but the things that weren't hurt a lot more.
Sololive is actually going solo now. But just like the other Hololive members who are no longer with us, she may be gone, but she'll never be forgotten.
The only thing I'm sad about is Ame and Aqua never got to collab despite promising to do so early on. Gonna miss Aqua her streams were enjoyable, and I can't help but feel more graduations are coming.

@@TheJjcczzalso possible that she may just be done. Maybe family, school, etc. Time to return to normal life.
*I **_HIGHLY_** doubt she's leaving without a plan.*
She probably wants to grow or explore in other areas that don't fit into Hololive activities.
I wonder if she gonna miss all the profit she got from holo. Unlike niji, holo talent never quit for money reason.
@@TyrantWeskerIt's been more of a thing for two years and especially this year.

Maybe it's too much stress for her and she wants to take it easier.
damn, finally a healthy proper graduation, but still very sad, godspeed aqua
Pretty much all of Hololive's graduations have been ok, the only times it has sucked is when a contract gets broken and girl has to be let go (Mel)/is fired (Rushia), thus preventing any sort of graduation from taking place :/.

honestly this is the best for her, because she can now do things on her own for a bit until she decides to be with another company. Or perhaps doing things by herself, which in this case those who are really big in streaming in general doesn't completely need agency to support them as much.
If there is one thing that the Niji-Doki situation taught the world, it's that unless you plan on joining Holo, Vsho or Phase, you're better off going solo
she's too big to be on another company, no vtuber company can contain her.
she can go indie and still successful.
She has a big following. She'll have no problems going solo.
Of course it's still gonna affect her growth in the long run, but on the other hand she'll have a lighter schedule, which is probably why she's graduating in the first place.
@@sandwichmonster7067 Not quite, a lot of hololive/agency talents are pulled from lesser known groups. It builds up a resume.
@@TheCalmPsychoShe said creative didn't she? Maybe she just wants to do something different
She has achieved so much during her time in hololive (2 whole Sololives!) and despite having disagreements with hololive's current direction, I could only wish that she truly left on good terms and that her graduation is one that's worth remembering for years to come.
not to mention she has the most brand collabs aside from Pekora in JP.
She was the spearhead of Hololive up until Pekora grew in popularity. It also coincided with Cover's early push into China, and Aqua was the darling of the Chinese people then.
Garde of old put down his rifle when duty's fullfill for when the newer generation might prosper
i hate that crawled run quote. it must be very frustating for Sora who pioneers the company to see her account's growth slowed down to a crawl while her kouhais break 500k and 1 million one after another by playing games & being comedian in an idol company.
@@EroBotan Yeah, it's so unfair. The rest are just riding the easy train to success when she was the one who build the rails.
@@rayo_0098oh sht, you right. now the early holo gen have lost 1 member each.
Yup. As a pro wrestling fan before a vtuber fan, I learned to get used to it. When any company grows big, eventually this kind of thing happens all the time. Contract expired, creative differences led to the decision of not renewing said contract, talent and company part ways.
At long last, She lives up to her full onion potential and makes us cry. Godspeed Aqua.

At least creative difference means she's still going to be a vtuber just in different form
I won't be so sure, creative difference can also mean she doesn't want to be a Vtuber anymore and wants to do something else like voice acting etc.
@@flyingoctopus4304Isn't Cover fine with voice acting and side gigs? Maybe she wants to pursue offline jobs? Or family? Unless it's something bad, we will probably never learn.

'Creative Differences' in this case could mean that Aqua wants to focus on something that can't be supported by Cover. So yeah, probably a different job or something. Cover has evolved A LOT from what the earlier gens signed up to do so one of the livers deciding this isn't for her anymore after 6 years isn't really all that strange.
@@ivanpetrov5255Sure, but being a Holo idol is still a full time job with responsibilities and expectations that takes a lot of work to maintain.

(some videos were lost entirely as staff and managers deleted rather than took down videos...Subaru's manager and others did that)
Aqua set out immediately to do a 24hr stream right there and then to try and get some video back on her channel.

She is funny and awkward i like that onion maid. she make me smile till today at the point of the news. My heart felt heavy and sad when she cried.
Gandalf says, “I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil." 🥲
What a year! first Mel, then Achan, and now Aqua? I hope this is the last time, at least for this year.
Gamma too
@@gurugurumawaru7869 screw Omega thou..
@@silent_reaper999why though? He's holostars too, who always remembered as humble. And don't be like a jerk, said to screw him
@@silent_reaper999 Screw you. He was someone's idol.
WHAT THE FAQ NOOOOOO NOT THE ONION!!!!!!
6 years.
6 years flew by so fast. And even faster since COVID. Man..
If they keep her account and she gets a graduation event then its a mutual and good ending but an ending nonetheless.
Small recap
We have
Mel from 1st gen
Now Aqua from 2nd gen
Rushia from 3rd gen
Coco from 4th gen
Aloe from 5th gen
Now the question is, what gen would be next?
Do we finally gonna lose someone from the legendary gen 0 or is it from the newer generation?
Let's find out soon
But she does enjoy it
She enjoys it though? Much more than the gaming stuff, even.
I’ll really miss her she was one of the members that got me into watching hololive ☹️
Shambles 😢
It breaks my heart even though I've never watched a single stream of hers.
2024 is sad year for hololive watchers
It had been a mixed year. THe things taht were good (like the 3d debuts, Justice, the holofest) were amazing, but the things that weren't hurt a lot more.
Sololive is actually going solo now. But just like the other Hololive members who are no longer with us, she may be gone, but she'll never be forgotten.
Honestly I did not expect Aqua to graduate, at least she's leaving on good terms.
The only thing I'm sad about is Ame and Aqua never got to collab despite promising to do so early on. Gonna miss Aqua her streams were enjoyable, and I can't help but feel more graduations are coming.
If she ever makes a new channel someone please come back and tell me what it is
Six years. That's one big milestone in itself. Farewell, Aqutan. May the future be as bright and happy as you are.
MAN 2024 is on a streak! how will 2025 compete at this rate?
No, let's not try to beat this record. 🥲
Don't jinx it
I watched that last singing stream live, I thought she was just wanting to sound cool for the last song while saying those lines but clearly it felt that something's off and she wanna say something, but really didn't expect it to be this announcement out of the blue. . .really a sad day...
don't cry because it's over
smile because it happened
OMFG. i stopped watching vtubers for a year now and seeing this news still hits hard. cant believe the introvert gamer is graduating...
