You made Goddard from a villain to a hero in just under 9 minutes. Salute to you Sir.

He def didn’t
@@Dslicckest1 Yes he did.

Jiri literally admitted that he was out and it was a good stoppage. Trust the Samurai
Good point. I'll take the competitor's word for it. Instead of assuming he's just trying to be nice. He said what he said which means he was out.

Well of course he will admit it as he is not gona making excuses for it but it and take lose as samurai it’s his codex but fight was 100% early stopped for titul fight even if referee want save Jiri of some extra damage Jiri knows what can happen and that he can get beat up badly it’s UFC titul fight lmao lol🫠
Footage says he wasn't and he was supposedly out before finishing Reyes.
He was out, not his body he said sir 😊

@@TheFineaglerAlex was on top of him in full mount dude, there would be no instant recovery if the ref didn't save him. Just move on

I’m just some rando in the comment section. If I had to guess I’d say it’s 110% so he doesn’t get a copyright strike from UA-cam genius. UFC hammers people and gets their videos taken down immediately especially videos showing KO/TKO’s.
@@Dynamo_066 Right? He’s asking me like I know him personally 🤣.
Most people who’ve ever been on UA-cam know this sh*t would be taken down IMMEDIATELY if he showed the full sequence of any UFC KO/TKO, and likely have his channel issued a copyright strike. If I miss a KO/TKO, trying to find it online is a mission bc that’s how fast the UFC gets em taken down.
Given that Jiri himself said he was done, it was a fair stoppage.
But he also said the he will never stop, if even he dies* his body will still work!
He said he was done because he doesn't make excuses and is a true practitioner of the sport. Doesn't mean he really believes it. He's been in similar positions before and come back and won

'F' Jiri, that stoppage was early.
Let me preface by saying I was rooting for Jiri to win but ultimately wanted a good fight. I think it definitely LOOKED early. But it was 100% the right call. Jiri was put out from more than a dozen shots to the side of the head. He's just a machine and came to ridiculously quick. Great breakdown as usual.
The blows had stopped. This is why 3 or 4 seconds could be justified to see what happens on the ground. Jiri either let go because he was out OR let go to initiate a backward roll away from danger. Personally i'd like to find out...
@@paulparadoxia Exactly. Even argue if this was bad soon is ridiculous.. If that was the case Jiri would be stopped in all his fights and he would never be a champ..
Ehh.. Jiri himself said he was out in the post fight interview. Jiri must have eaten close to 20 unanswered blows to the head. 1 of which dropped him in the first place. As much as I would've enjoyed the fight going longer - the ref is there to ensure the safety of the fighter and Jiri was in trouble so 🤷♂.
When the Ref stopped the match, Jiri he got up normally... but he didn't want to sink the Referee. Respect Jiri.
It was early no doubt but doesn't it have to be against Alex. I mean don't we want to see jiri again.
Respect to jiri for admitting he was out in the interview. Good stoppage no controversy
no-one can bear Brian's speed and technique with these videos.. thanks
Unfortunate as that would’ve been a fun fight to go the distance or at least a few rounds further. Pereira set that leg up early
There’s a 0% chance jiri makes it out that round bro
@@peterbrian3911jiri was hurting pereira too. I think if this fight went beyond second round jiri would've stopped pereria. It's just his style. Marc Goddard fucked it up.
@@sashahunkCope
@@sashahunklol, do you think Juri's leg was going to last more than 3 rounds?
I don't.
And new!!!!!!!💣💥
Even if Marc Goddard wouldn't have stopped it a dazed and hirt Jiri would've been too compromised since Pereira was already in full mount before Goddard pushed Pereira off. Marc just saved Jiri from being completely unconscious.
Even in real time I noticed how his arms went limp after one of the elbows. He would've accumulated so much more unnecessary damage had Mark not stopped it.
Not really, since Jiri literally jump back on his feet right after the stoppage.
With this type of stoppage logic, every time someone gets only DROPPED, the referee should stop the fight. Going limp for 0,5 seconds has never been a reason to stop a fight before.
@@anonnymous31 jiri literally said he was out
@@anonnymous31 He jumped back to his feet because Goddard stopped the fight, Alex was on top and would've finished him.
@@anonnymous31 You've never been hit in the temple w multiple elbows, have you? That can lead to some quick brain damage, and it can be the difference bw 2 blows. When the hands went limp, that said it all.
@@anonnymous31You clearly want Jiri to have brain damage. Accept the loss.
I saw all of that at first glance. DC and Joe thought it was early but people just dont fall back like that, in that fashion unless they are compromised... When Joe interviewed Jiri, he confirmed that he was out. Great stoppage and Marc Goddard is the best in the business. 👏🏾👏🏾
exactly, there's no debate, jiri said himself he was out. Good stoppage. Too many 'fans' watch MMA and involve their own egos
Whether it’s early or not, an early stoppage is always better than a late one. Like yeah it definitely sucks if the fighter had something left but a ref operating with caution and intent to protect the fighter is their primary purpose. When they don’t operate this way, have a bad view, or are just slow, it can lead to some of the most horrific finishes that can cause lifelong damage to the fighter. It’s like airlines having tons of safety checks that they go through and will sometimes delay your flight and get a new plane over what could just be a burned out lightbulb on a safety check button. It’s a pain and inconvenient but you’d prob prefer they operate that way as opposed to the alternative and having something bad happen.
Idk why people want to see damage to the point it may change a man forever. Alex put him down twice in under 10 seconds. I agree that the stoppage was fine.
You have a video here where you in slow-motion 1080p see that Jiri literally goes unconscious, and then you say "whether its early or not" when it was just shown crystal clear to not be early. These are the types of hardheaded dumb motherfuckers that watch mma.
I prefer late stoppages
@@-tzadakim-7805go and fight then then see if u will prefer the ref letting a guy beat the shit out of u
@user-gh2df6fk3w like bro I wanna see jiri fight again. Alex is NOT the guy you want a late stoppage against
I think Jiri would lose some of his fighting ability, and potentially get significant lasting damage if the fight continued. Goddard played the villain but he just did his job which was to protect the losing fighter from ending up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
It was such a knife-edge thing that, without such analysis like this, it could have been argued either way.
I'm glad we have folks like you, slowing things down and taking considered looks at them. Great win!
Side note: People talk about his kickboxing and know that he's a two-weight MMA champion.
What gets lost is that he was in (Glory) kickboxing, too. To be correct.. he's a 2-sport, 2-weight, champion! 💥👊
I was initially convinced that it was an early stoppage but after watching this video It's evident now that he was genuinely out, and that the stoppage was justified. Unfortunately, I can almost guarantee that people will continue to hold on to their bias and cry "early stoppage" lol
Weve got aspinall haters and alex haters. Ufc fans are just annoying asfk
They're doing it on this video lol Like damn guys, a legit doctor just showed us what happened but yet you still wanna cry about it.
Must've lost money lol
The video isn’t even needed JIRI HIMSELF SAID HE WAS OUT
He was right there and got up quick I don’t understand how that’s not early
He fell back bc his leg was fucked up
It’s a championship bout and also some of the elbows might’ve been illegal shots 🤷🏻♂️
@@louisg9292 any excuse, right?
Absolutely love your content and you always breakdown knockouts and injuries so perfectly
Early but UNDERSTANDABLE stoppage. Jiri was dropped, then rocked again and then fell back. In the ref's POV its understandable why he stopped it there. Sure jiri probably couldve lasted longer and he did recover from bad situations like this before but still its not wrong to stop it
Fax, Not to mention his hurt leg from Alex
Jiri literally said in post fight interview that he went unconcious... Joke man
Early is far preferable to late.
But he feels back with Alex pushing him back! Although I agree it's early but understandable tho. It's just ridiculous when they build the fight between 2 warriors and as soon as someone faces adversity you stop the fight. Refs have to be better at understanding the situation between the fighters. AND it's a TITLE fight!!
@@812FoodReviewyeah, but we don't want a fighter to suffer more. The dude clearly got knocked out twice.
Best, most detailed breakdowns out there. This is awesome.
Great work. Great stoppage for sure!
I think we were all judging/expecting this fight to be a slugfest like Jiri's last fight with Glover, but Alex just had enough power to get him out of there. Gotta give Alex props, not only is he dangerous with his hands, but the leg kicks are BRUTAL! I thought the stoppage was early initially because I wanted more, but looking at the replays, it was over. Gotta look out for the fighter's safety at the end of the day. I wasn't even planning on watching this fight, go figure! 😅
Yeah, getting rocked by alex vs glover isn't the same. It's like getting hit by a car vs getting hit by a bus.
This ia why I tell people to wait and see if Dr. Sutterer puts out a video. Clear, concise medical answer. Thanks Doc!
Such a cool channel. I dare say even an important one . The more the "layman" learns regarding what's happening physiologically during/after athletic injuries, the more able we are to ideally avoid them but also, to know when something is serious, when to stop & how to mitigate them. Thanks Dr. 👍
If it kept going, Jiri would have taking much more damage and his career would take a sharp left turn. Earlier stoppage saved his brain and gives us more fights from Jiri in the future. He still has potential to get the title back.
It didn't go Jiri's way, but he is great to watch and good for the sport. Plus he can have some more good pay days, because a career in that game is short enough anyway.
Or maybe win, and not have a loss!
@@aa-zz6328 Why risk his longevity as a fighter and his quality of life as he ages for a really low chance of coming back and winning the fight?
The refree has to ensure the safety of the fighters, Jiri suffered 2 big concussions in a short period of time. If the fight continued, Pereira would be mounted on a dazed Jiri Prochazka, that would almost certainly absorb big shots and suffer a third concussion and ending the fight. Even if somehow he manages to survive the round, he was in pieces, his leg was fucked and he also suffered major head trauma while Pereira suffered way less damage.
@@zamelificationhe risks all that by just getting in the cage, its apart of fighting. If you're worried about safety don't fight in a cage. So now we should stop fights after the first hard punch "to ensure the safety of fighters"? The UFC would go out of business that way, and it's not the proper way to referee fights.
@@aa-zz6328 are you blind?
Looking at the slow motion replay, it was a fair win for Alex. I think those early leg kicks did early damage in terms of body control & balancing + those elbows 💪 to the head are lethal!
Elbows to the back of the head are illegal look it up.

I'm very impressed by your medical analysis of what happened. The computer image of the legs and watching the fight it in slow time explains it. The ref made the right call. Great review. Thank you sir !!!
I dont understand how this is a conversation if Jiri himself said he was unconscious.
Because he is humble. Look at his fights he has an insane recovery. Marc needs to be fired for stopping that fight. He would've reversed than position anyways. I understand ufc wanted pereria to be a double champ. Jiri vs pereira 2 should be booked .

Great point. Technically he didn’t shoot a double leg he went down after the left hook. Than just out of pure heart and auto pilot from training he trys to go for the double leg. Double leg technique consiste of locking arms together at this level or having a strong hold behind the knee. Jiri doesn’t accomplish either one because his arms go completely limp and he falls back. It was an excellent high level stoppage that has to be praised not hated.

If you immediately get full mounted after going down that’s the beginning of the end for you. No need for extra damage. Alex began to full mount him which was not shown here. Great stoppage.
Excellent analysis. Very nice observation Brian, this clears everything up for sure.
We want to see fights, not deaths! At this level and weight especially, refs have a critically important job. That extra shot could result in brain damage or worse, great call by the ref and great video!
Great content! Subbed for your future fight reviews.
Great analysis and editing. Such a pro perspective.
Early stoppage for a few reasons:
1) As Jiri fell backward, Alex was outbalanced forward on a very high mount and therefore was forced to post his hands on the mat.
This means that he could not have attacked Jiri for at least another couple of seconds, because he MUST re-adjust his balance and secure the mount first. Goddard could have let those few moments play out as there was literally no immediate danger for Jiri. No point in rushing the stoppage
2) In the last few moments, under the mount, Jiri tries to reach for Alex's wrists and then positions the hands in a high guard to protect his head. Those hands were not limp but active at that moment. He already regained his functions and was working on defending himself.
3) Jiri recovered immediately after the fight was stopped, and was on steady legs as he got up. Clearly not that compromised, he could have survived the 50 seconds that were left in the round if he was given time to get out of the mount or at least give up his back.
4) The mount position was not secured. Look at the amount of empty space between Alex's groin and Jiri's belly. That's plenty of space to escape out of the back door, shrimp to half guard and control posture or bridge. Jiri had plenty of options to improve his position, it's not like he was stuck in a crucifix or a tight mount where he couldn't get out.
All these things must be taken into consideration when judging if a fighter's safety is in "immediate danger" and he's unable to improve his position, or if he's safe to continue for another 5 seconds. In this case, Jiri was still 100% safe from danger for another few seconds and had a reasonable chance at improving his position, so they should have let it play out.
In all likelihood, with a leg compromised and those headshots he absorbed he was not going to win regardless, so it's not that upsetting, but still an early stoppage.
Cope.
agreed, i like both fighters and didnt care who won, but i hate when fights arent ended decisively, especially in championship fights as great as this one was.
I though it was an early stoppage, BUT after watching the slow-mo replay you can clearly see Jiri´s left arm going limp, if anything Goddard saved him from unnecessary pushiment.
Another great video, thanks Doc 😉

The blows had stopped. This is why 3 or 4 seconds could be justified to see what happens on the ground. Jiri either let go because he was out OR let go to initiate a backward roll away from danger. Personally i'd like to find out...
Jiri was out but he was briefly out the same way Cyril Gane was out when Tuivasa connected a hit. It's understandable as to why people think Jiri could've still turned things around; because fighters have prevailed before when a referee doesn't immediately stop a fight. I'm still happy Alex won though. Just wish it was more convincing so people would have less excuses to downplay him.
Totally agree. I thought it was definitely an early stop but I feel like Alex likely would've won in the next round anyway.
Except Gane didn’t fall flat on the mat with his opponent on top in full mount. Huge difference
When the fight was stopped he had already recovered though.. you cant retroactively stop a fight.. thats the problem..

I love this channel. I for sure thought it was an early stoppage but now I see the other side.
Some of the comments on social media have been ridiculous. Jiri admitted it himself it was good stoppage and that he was out. You provided the evidence to go along with it. Thank you!
A lot of these guys they don't want a fight they want to see somebody get killed in the cage
What evidence? He provided evidence that he WAS NOT OUT when the referee stopped the fight because Jiri clearly was holding Alex legs. Imagine stopping all fights like that and you don't know for sure if they could continue or not..
He admitted himself because he fights by a code and doesn't make excuses
I thought it was an early stoppage but after I wash this video I can definitely can confirm it was an early stoppage.
Thank you for explaining this. Awesome videos. 💯👍✌️💪
great video, Doc
We all know that Jiri has gone through worse than this and his "fast Recovery" is what making all of his Fight entertaining and memorable, but he doesnt need to get more Damage especially from a Hard Hands like Alex, remember what happen to Tony, good Call by Goddard, great performance by Alex! And I hope we see more of Jiri anytime Soon 👍
If a doctor thought initially it was early and had to rewatch it MULTIPLE times to make a case for the stoppage being valid, it confirms that most people thought it was early and that the referee could have waited a bit longer, but on the bright side, it saved Prochazka a shot or two if he was done for anyway. Personally, I stopped caring about it the moment I saw Jiri wasn't complaining about the stoppage. If he thought it was a fair stoppage, it's enough for me.
Great explanation on the details of this fight and the outcome

You should have continued the scene and show the full mount after... Jiri was saved from further unnecessary head trauma.

Love your content and thanks to you I feel a lot better about the end of the fight.
I think it was an early stoppage. Mainly because the amount of time that his hands supposedly, "went limp" was for such a small period of time that he wasn't really knocked out. This is not a knock out. It can be classified just like a knockdown. When Jiri went down from the initial punch, his body went limp. Again, not a knockout, a knockdown. I know as a doctor you are there to protect people. But it's fighting. It's not ballet.
Exactly.
Maybe but I still don't see a different outcome had ref not stopped it coz alex has insane power and would have completely slept jiri even with a few more seconds, just like how he would have done to Izzy in their first fight
@@ssk58607thats not a fact , pereiras ground game is weak and jiris very strong on the ground he just stood up when glover was on top of him and jiri was hurt. You dont know what wouldve happened if it wasnt stopped, thats why we say early stoppage.

idk if it was early or not but we all know Jiris ability to recover is second to none
Not only his hands/arms going limp but also you can see Jiri's left leg go limp/ fall forward at the same time, he was out definitely a stoppage that would prevent more damage especially considering Alex was going to have full mount. Great breakdown, it was nice to see it slowed down to pick apart some more details.

The Truth: jiri said he was out. He's been knocked out before. He knows what that feels like. Man says he was out, guess what? He was out.
When the fight was stopped he had already recovered though.. you cant retroactively stop a fight.. thats the problem..
💯
This is a great explanation, not only from the medical perspective but also covering Jiri's ability to defend actively, in an intelligent manner. Thank you!
Great video bro!
The ref just put himself in a difficult position to decide.
Jiri got flash KO'd after the left by Alex, then flash KO'd again when Alex was elbowing and punching him. Jiri's hands went limped but as soon as he was dropping on his back, his hands were clamped on Alex legs pulled alex down with him. Which means Jiri proved he got quick recovery and the ref should have let that continue a little longer.
Thank you. Only person that seems to understand this. IF he was out it was for .5 seconds, this video is slowed down a lot. I'd argue he let go of his legs because he was losing his balance, not KOed. But either way he was conscious less than a second later

Good breakdown. Whenever I feel there’s an early stoppage I try to remember the referee sees things we don’t. He is up close and personal.
I think it was a good stoppage, Jiri looked hurt bad from the initial left that dropped him and then his hands going limp and falling backwards, with a 230lb alex pereira on top of him, it’s better to stop it there to prevent any additional unnecessary damage, it’s more beneficial long term for jiris health and means a faster recovery too
Considering JIri said it was a good stoppage is enough for me.

That stoppage was wack af referee need to be fired
This was good catch. I think most people when they saw it live didn't notice Jiri's hands went limb. To be fair Jiri was shortly knocked out when he got up kicked by Dominick Reyes
yes, but that one has no follow ups. it was only an upkick and Jiri fell on a safe spot so Dominick didn't have the chance to rattle his brain more with follow up blows. 😂
That was one lucky shot this man ate a right then a tight left hook then elbowed him like he was about to get sexually assaulted in jail with elbows … then the man went limp

It doesn't signify a valid stoppage at all. It's split second reaction, and it's the sort of thing that happens in a fight. Jiri has been rocked many times in many fights because of his high risk style. What has separated him, is his ability to fight through those situations, and to drag his opponent into a kind of chaos where Jiri seems to excel. Jiri has proven to have great recuperative power, and Goddard should know that. AND it's for the belt! You give guys opportunities to fight through bad situations when it's for the belt. They work so hard, their whole lives for that opportunity, and it's one which doesn't often come twice in fight sports. A knockout is not the worst thing in the world, it's part of the sport, let it be definitive. That wasn't definitive at all.
100% agree. It seems super sus like Goddard was told beforehand to call it early if Alex had the upperhand
exactly, this youtube doctor used .5 seconds where it wasn't even the end of him going limp in the arm, if fights were stopped like this all fights would be stopped on the first knockdown. This youtube doctor is a casual.
@@TriWaZeDana or ufc heads definitely prep the refs as to who is supposed to win
@@PcCAvioN Yeah it’s a great way to fix a fight without fixing a fight. And there’s no way to prove it. Goddard always the ref in these sus fights
Everything looks worse in slow motion. It was an early stoppage for a title fight and whilst I don’t think it would have changed the result it should have gone a little longer.
Furthermore, Jiri isn’t the kind of guy to call out bad officiating.
How many times have you been in the ring/cage doc? Ever taken a calf kick…would you like too?

great DR. Sutterer
early stoppage for me bcs he ws just outbalanced and still trying to defend jiri just don't wanna make an excuses thats why he said he was out but we saw a different circumstances
I still disagree & feel as if it was a premature stoppage. I'm not denying that Jiri went limp momentarily after that well-placed elbow, my issue lies in the fact that Goddard didn't step in to stop it _because_ of that elbow - he only stopped it moments later after Jiri had tried to clasp his hands, & ended up falling backward, incidentally pulling Pereira into mount, & by that time Jiri had (at-least somewhat) recovered. I think at that point you have let it play out a little further before you stop the fight, especially when it's for an undisputed title. Jiri was humble in defeat & didn't want to take anything away from Pereira (hence why he didn't protest the stoppage) because that's just who he is - he's an honorable, humble guy, but you can see it written all over his face immediately after the stoppage when he's standing-up & the Dr is attending to him; his eyes are as wide as saucers, & he looks furious, staring daggers at Mark Goddard like he wanted to choke him to death. To me, that's enough to suggest he didn't agree w/the stoppage 🤷🏼♂️ There's a big difference in being stunned & being out-cold, & if you've ever sparred &/or competed in any combat sport you know that a shot that lands to the temple, on or around your ear almost always sends that immediate jolt throughout your body & throws off your equilibrium, & I believe Jiri was temporarily stunned, however i don't think Jiri ever lost consciousness nor was he out of that fight quite yet. If you need any evidence to support this, Just look at his fight w/Glover - he was rocked & dropped multiple times, took a far more significant beating, & in 1 instance (similarly to this fight) was even mounted after being dropped by Texiera, yet he was still able to rally back & win the LHW title in that fight. The Dominic Reyes fight is an even better example of this. I understand that it's a fine-line to walk for refs, deciding whether or not a fight should continue or not, but I believe it should be judged on a case by case basis. The refs that night seemed to be far less anxious & willing to let the fights play out in the prelims, however overly cautious in the later fights w/much more significant implications, when it should be the other way around, especially when it involves guys like Jiri, based on his wins vs the circumstances he overcame in the fights i mentioned previously w/Glover Teixeira & Dominic Reyes. He's shown a zombie🧟♂️like ability to recover from being rocked or dropped, after eating shots that would literally kill the average person, proceeding to finish both opponents afterward. You *HAVE* to give fighters the chance to recover, based on their own recognizance, *_especially_* in title fights, & double-especially when it comes to guys who have a history of not only surviving in similar situations, but coming back & finishing his opponents as Jiri has. IMO we were robbed of a potential all-timer here, & while I can't predict when or how exact circumstances or specific events are going to play out w/out speculating, I can use past examples to gain a pretty good idea, & based on his prior performance against Texiera (a world class jujitsu black-belt w/a devastating mount) Jiri has a lot of tricks up his sleeve, & he is more than capable of nullifying G&P from the bottom, & will patienctly wait for opportunities to explode & reverse positions. Meanwhile In that time he could very well have completely recovered, & possibly (probably) would've swept Alex to wind-up on top, being the superior grappler in that situation. It really is a shame he wasn't given the opportunity to do so.✌🏻🧔🏼♂️
Where's reyes now tho?
@@samgibson684 Wtf does that have to do w/anything?
100% agree with this. All of it. It seems super sus like Goddard was told beforehand to call it early if Alex got the upper hand. We have seen this a lot like with Suga vs Aljo. Usually with championship fights, as like you said the earlier fights they often let go on forever. We got robbed, Jiri got robbed. Very unfortunate
well said
its a championship fight and this ending was not 100% decisive.
Thank you, this was useful.
Great video, and pointing out his hands going limp, i didnt see that in the first few times
BS...so he flashed out. He immediately was ready to continue
