Finding & Buying Old Tools - Viewers Choice
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 кві 2014
- You asked and I answered, come along on a trip in search of good old tools. This time we are off to the flea market in search for hand tools and whatever else catches our eye. I come back with some nice examples of what you can find if you get out there and get your hands dirty. Look out for the future videos where I get these tools back to working order. While there are many ways to find and buy old tools flea markets offer the largest concentration of tools at a great price. With only a couple dollars in your pocket you can have a great time bargaining for the tool that you "need". Feel free to leave suggestions under this video letting me know what kind of videos you'd like to see in the future. Thanks for watching and for your continued support of the channel.

Great video, some of the old forged tools have great durability an will last forever. Thanks!
This was summer of yardsales, flea markets, and a year round junk store. I call it getting my rust fix because my hands are usually covered in the rust by the time I'm done digging. Never know what's at the bottom of a box.
I got all kinds of old hand tools left from my grandfather and my father I don't even know how to work a lot of them hand tools they both were woodcrafters, like saw down a lot of trees and build there homes with,,
I just got onto your 2 channels this morning and thought I'd stop to say I really enjoy the quality of your videos as well as your teaching style. The information is clear, honest and helpful. Although I've worked in construction, renos and cabinet making, it's been years since I've actually done anything in those departments. Looking forward to building a Tiny House for myself up here in Gaspésie, Québec. Really enjoying a refresher on stuff I've done as well learning new things. Now I'm gonna go watch the rest! Cheers to you!
I love picking up old tools, but I dont really use them often so unless they are ridiculously cheap I normally pass. My most prized finds are an old draw knife in excellent shape ( cant recall the brand) i paid 2 dollars for and my very favorite find was an older Hultafors bruks 3.5 lb felling axe I paid 6 dollars for in very good shape. Just tonight I picked up three old axes, a double bit Collins, a 2-3 lb Norlund and a 5 pound monster of what I believe is a Grandfors Bruks :) these were bartered from a family member, I dont know who got the better deal as my side of the bargain was helping roof his garage LOL...
Good haul, I did a video on one of my flea market axes. ua-cam.com/video/6O_ZIu3RAcg/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for posting a video about this topic. I think this is one of the best ways for a new woodworker to assemble a tool cache and, maybe more importantly, in restoring these oldies, learning how they work. Best find for me- a miter trimmer that I bought at a car show for $35. .
I love flee markets and yard sale, I always get excited when we pull up and start saying get out of my way people are buying my stuff, which cracks up the wife and daughter even after hearing it a hundred times. I kept thinking you were going to say you found that pistol in a box :)
woodturningjohn I think you, myself and many others have used that same line many times. And while joking, completely serious! My technique for flea markets is to abandon anyone I'm with and do a really fast walk through to make sure there's nothing really noticeable then go back through for a closer look. I have found some very cool stuff when it comes to tools.
Great video. You've hit on something my wife and do most weekends. We can usually be found at a flea market every weekend and she's a great help in locating old tools for me.
Sounds like you've got a good bird dog on your hands.
I completely agree with you about searching for older tools. Just last weekend I found several good finds at an estate sale. The steal was a pair of old pipe style clamps that use lumber instead of pipes ... $5.00. Really enjoy your videos!
Cool find, I know exactly the kind your talking about, they are very cool. I have one, a pair for $5 isn't bad at all.
I like this video and look forward to seeing how you fix up the tools and use them. I would also like to see anything about your tiny house build.
Will do, I'm going to pretty much film making the house all the way through. I also take a lot of nice photos so you will not miss out. I am possibly going to set up a second channel dedicated just to the topic of my tiny house showing steps and sharing my design ideas and thoughts. I will still post updates and use certain aspects of it's build for making videos on this channel. What do you think? Thanks for watching.
I was excited to find your channel. We are working on a homestead and working on changing our lives in the process. We shop flea markets and swap meets the same way. Fast first, slower next and then may go through promising piles and boxes last. It is a family tradition, being drug around as a small child, learning the art of negotiation early. And I have even bought guns at swap meets. It is Texas after all.
NerdyDirt Cool, glad you found the channel.
Great idea's for future video's, I'll be keeping my eye open for them. Our flea markets in my town are so full of new stuff we have to go further north, say about 50 miles to get to one with yard sale things. Those types of flea markets are my favorite tho. Nice vid, thanks for taking me along. :)
Your Welcome Louise, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the videos resulting from this trips finds too. Some flea markets are funny though, like you said, just a bunch of new junk that's basically trash or about as expensive as it would be in the store. Luckily this flea market has a good range of stuff.
A great video once again. I can only wish to find the tools I have seen folks harvested out of yard sales. I call my neck of the woods a " Woodworkers Desert" . LOL I do find the odd little gem in a yard sale but they are very few and far between. I don't stop looking though. I am glad you found a few tools you can put back to work. Again, thanks for the video I enjoyed it and I am looking forward to seeing your approach for handles. Cheers !
Derek
Thanks Derek, the draw knife is the one I'm looking forward to fixing up the most. I've got some cool ideas for the handles, so it should be a good video.
There's nothing like refurbishing an old tool back to new condition to teach you respect for the tool and also let you learn how to use it best. Most of the equipment and tools in my shop are hand-me-down and flea market finds that I have refurbished. I'm very proud of every one of them and after spending hours rebuilding some I make sure that they are well maintained.
I love watching your videos. You vary the topics enough that each video isn't just a remake of the last one. Please keep up the great work.
Gerald, Thank you for the kind words, I'm very glad you enjoy the videos.
I've got a lot more videos in the works covering a variety of topics, so keep an eye out. My goal is to post one video a week with two being optimal. I have so many videos I'm working on there's no lack of content, just time to put it all together! Thanks for watching.
Great video and channel. Here in Uruguay you can get real good stuff, very cheap.
I would really appreciate a list of what I should have for tools for renovating my mobile home. I don't know much and am learning mostly through your videos on renovating.
Ah, another nice channel. I subscribed, since your channel is right down my alley.
Cheers.
Good video as well, I'm really interested in putting together a nice toolkit for a wider range of work. Fleemarkets and garage sales sounds really interesting, since there is the potential to find forgotten gold. Because they don't make things as they use to.
DrZalt Thank you, I'm glad you like my channel. 90% of my tools where used. You end up with a nice range of tools which is very interesting to look at versus all new stuff, not to mention the cost. I've got an entire shop put together for less than some pay for a single floor model power tool. Look forward to seeing you in the comments!
Brother, you rock!
Thanks for sharing your flea market trip. It was nice to go along with you. :-)
Your welcome mark, thanks for coming along!
Just started watching your channel last night very informative and helpful looking forward to seeing more of your videos very they are very helpful....
Conrad, glad the channel is helpful to you. What kind of projects are you working or planning on working on?
The Homestead Craftsman Building a tool box and some shelves and an entertainment center....
Tool boxes are always fun.
I would love to see the videos that you talked about in this video. I've seen quite a few soldering irons and torches like that but never made the connection
between the two. Great vid!
Thanks Tim, I'll be putting the videos together over the next coming months along with many more, make sure your subscribed and you'll get the update when I post them. Thanks for watching.
very beautyful treasure you find. hope you good job with us.
Thierry Meunier Already cleaned up and using some of them. Thanks for watching.
I love estate sales I got most of my tools their My best by so far is a 6 inch delta jointer deluxe model I paid 25.00 and sold for 250.00 that gave a lot more money for the next sale to buy tools that I needed
I look forward to your video on fixing up that draw knife. I have one from a flea market sitting on a garage shelf in similar shape and I don't know exactly what to do to it. Thanks for the great videos.
Stephen Brockhoff If you have not already seen it, here's a draw knife video I did with one that I got at the same flea market. ua-cam.com/video/uF-Dz0rHkGY/v-deo.html I've since come up with a different plan for the one in this video. I'll be posting more on that later. Thanks for watching.
I'd like to see a lot more about the flea market tools and restoring them.
Yes I think a flee market find - tool restoration "wood" make a nice video for you to make and for all of us to watch. Love going to flee markets.........
Coming up!
I managed to pick up a stanley 164 for 10 bucks at the markets they are soooooo hard to come by especially here in Australia. I checked online to get one it is like 1100 bucks! big discount if you ask me.
What is your approximate location ? Looks like your right in my backyard. Love your videos and the way you present them. Thumbs up!
I a couple of years ago picked up a tool lot on Craigs list it was amazing.I got 2 Diston saws 2 miter saws 2 Stanley Bailey planes #5 #4 a USA block plane a spoke shave.Tons of hardware Bit braces pipe wrenches and much more for $ 20.00I need to find another lot like that.It felt like Christmass
I like the new intro!
Wow! A really young and good looking me! Bless you, the spirit is still alive.............Ross
Can you do a shop tour please!
Hey I enjoy your videos. A few of my hand planes I picked up at estate sales for literally a few dollars. I have got to get out and find some flea markets in my area.
What type of planes did you find, I've got quite a few, most of them I don't use but I can't turn them down if they are a good deal. My main users are stanley block plane, jack and jointer. All old and in great usable condition. Most I use as they are when I found them exept for sharpening and adjusting, but I've redone a few of them. Some people are against that, but I like the way they look all cleaned up and repainted. Thanks for watching.
The ones I use all the time that I found are an old block plane and an old jack. Haven't restored them just sharpened up the blades and they work great.
Wow, crazy, I've never seen this many tools at any flee market I've been!
Some are good and some are not....this one has a bunch.
Hello Sir,
I have been getting old tools from flee markets for years. great place to find hard to find items. and regular items for a great discount. I am lucky here in north eastern Ky i have 5 markets with in 30 min 2 are more city style and 3 are country style. i can find axes to buck saws to table saws and full wood shop tools.
I really enjoy your videos great content and very well put together.
Scoutmastertroop101 Well thank you very much, I'm glad you are enjoying my videos. Sounds like you've got some good options for tool shopping. I've got a couple of flea markets and also really enjoy them, but they are hit and miss. The one that I go to has been slowing down over the past few years. It's a lot of old guys that sell and they have been dieing off. But I have gotten some really good stuff. Once again, glad you enjoying the videos and thanks for watching. If you know anyone that you feel would also enjoy the videos pass along the link to my channel if you don't mind.
great vid
Thank you
Thank you.
I see that you can get a lot of good deals
Good informative video.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
During the summer in Tacoma there is a huge indoor/outdoor swap meet. They sell anything you can imagine from corn on a stick covered in mayo to new tool sets. I'm anxious to see what Wasilla has to offer.
scott dennison Cool, I just hit up the flea market this past weekend, didn't get much but I did film a video, not sure if it's post worthy yet. Thanks.
I'm sure it is but that's for you to decide. We would all like to see the lost treasures you found.
I had the same truck. 97 s-10. Great truck and good gas mileage.
opichocal I love my little truck, I've had it for a year and a half or so. It was a great deal and a big money maker for me with all the stuff that I do. I don't know how anyone gets by without a truck! This one is a Sonoma, 95.
Loved the video. My father had an old blow torch that he used for all kinds of things. He had one of those soldering things too. Amazing that someone so young even knows what these things are. Where did you learn about old tools and where did you learn your carpentry skills?
peggyt1243 Hi, Thank you for your kind words. I've been interested in all this since I was a young boy. I've always been surrounded by people who know about these things. I also went to school and got fine arts degree woodworking and designing furniture. I learned other disciplines too. I've been out of school for a while now and have continued to learn. The short answer is that I've been doing this stuff my whole life. Thank you for your interest.
i usually go to flea markets and get a decent deal every now and then but i just discovered a really nice antique tool store that has practically everything you could think of. i have bought a few things and been very pleased with the prices which are wicked low because there are just so overstocked. just today i got a wards master breast drill that are so rare ive only seen 2 on the internet and they sold for 10 times what it cost me. as well as an 1860-1870s richardson brothers dovetail saw which once again was a steal for 10 dollars considering all it needed was a sharpening good luck with your finds all. Justin
+Justin Dodge Sounds good, thanks for the comment.
+The Homestead Craftsman do you have a Stanley no 80 scraper plane?
Don't forget auction's young fella! I've been hooked on auction's for over 50 year's (I'm 62 now) my dad and other relation's started taking me when I was 7 y.o. and just last weekend I picked up A nice 6" machinist vice for 30 Buck's. No name on it but several numbers and it's painted gray so I believe it might be Navy issue. At A used tool store I was at today I saw several 4" Vice's that came out of A high school metal shop that were really rough and yet they were priced at $150.00 each.
At that rate mine should be worth around 200 Buck's!
I also found A box that I won for 35 Buck's that contained A set of cast iron lead hammer molds, 6 handles and one compleated hammer. These molds are still being made and I understand that they cost about 75 Buck's each and the cast steel handles are 20 Buck's each. I may sell one mold and 4 or 5 handles as the handles will never wear out. You just melt down the old lead and recast the hammer. May need to add some lead from time to time but I have several buckets of lead wheel weight's.
Good luck in your endever's and I'll be watching you next vid.
Gary Ronan I've never been a fan of auctions. Unless you've got all the time in the world, they take too long. You'll find something you like, wait half the day for them to get to it just to find out there's someone there that will outbid you no matter what. But for me it comes down to how slow they are, the regular auction around my parts that sells a lot my kind of stuff starts at 8 am and goes so late that trucks turn their lights on to finish it up. Also, people get into a frenzy and pay too much at auctions, so I don't want to wait around to find out I have to go to battle with one of those guys. Although I have seen some very cool stuff purchased for hardly nothing at auctions. Thanks for watching and commenting.
The Homestead Craftsman Yes, they do take time but in my area will allow you to leave bid's on item's you want and the auctioneer will bid up to your limit. I find bidder war's to be highly entertaining myself!
In my area online auctions are gaining in popularity and I have used them to buy items at great Price's but to each there own! Good luck.
Heck of a nice adze you have there!
Thanks Jake
I found a Simonds 503 royal chinook it was vary rusty $26.00
I bought a stihl edger for $10. Put a new primer bulb in it and sold the next day for $100. Wish those deals came along more often
opichocal I don't do much buying and reselling, but the opportunity is there as you demonstrated. I do see a lot of stuff and frequently that could be bought and sold for good profit. Pretty much anything in my truck here and other larger stuff. Thanks for watching.
Hey Chief, I just stumbled on your channel and am really enjoying what you've put out there.
For curiosity sake, in the background of this video I see a forest with what looks like a maintained corridor slashed through it. Looks like a hydro corridor without the hydro. What am I looking at?
D Gunn It's a gas pipe line.
I've got a 1940s bench top metal lathe made by Allen electric equipment co. I'm trying to sell it, I don't want it goin to the scrap yard. I need help... It's not in to bad of shape however it is missing the motor.
Great stuff. Would love to see a video on how to restore an old hand plane. I just bought a quality but rusted one on Craigslist.
I've got quite a few planes still in the line up to be fixed up, I'll definetly ad it to the list of videos. What make and model is the plane? If I have it I might choose it as the subject for the video. Thanks for watching.
You know, I'm not sure. It doesn't have a make on it. I'll take a pic and maybe you'll know. I think you could do a whole series on restoring, adjusting, and using hand planes. Even talking about the different sizes and uses would be cool.
Btw, did you get the handgun at a swap meet too? If so, good find! Walter?
I'm planning on doing some videos on sharpening, I'll do some on planes while I'm at it. The gun was not from the flea market, it was just poking at my side while sitting on the tailgate. It's a ruger, I've got a video on a leather holster I made for it if you are interested. ua-cam.com/video/4Dfq678n8Gk/v-deo.html
I purchased an old tool or maybe an attachment for a tool at a yard sale for a dollar...the owner had no idea what it was used for...would anyone out there know where I can go to find out what this tool is
The priming cup on that torch is backwards.
I buy old tools out of financial necessity, but I also love the fact that it's giving the poor, sad, neglected old tools a second life by sprucing them up again to full working condition.
Mollywood54 I also enjoy the financial savings with used tools, but I often buy used because I specifically wanted a certain tool. But I also buy new stuff too. I like it all.
Thanks for posting this - I've had limited luck with eBay, better luck with local auctions, but the best find so far was at an estate sale. I'm young enough I haven't been to many flea markets -- not even sure how many of those there are in Northern Virginia?
Are you located in the eastern US?
Alan T Ebay is good if your looking for something specific, but you pay the top going rate for stuff in most cases. Flea markets or yard sales are good. But only if you like doing that kind of thing, otherwise just buy what you want online and get it over with. I like looking around at stuff, I'm not looking for anything in particular, just what ever I find. I've got a pretty big tool collection and have spent less than some spend on a single piece of equipment. I'd say flea markets and yard sales are everywhere. Being winter time, your going to have to look for other things though as it's a warm weather thing. Junk stores are good, not goodwill, but actual junk stores. And yes, I'm in the East also.
Great video topic. I recently picked up a Stanley #80 scraper plane myself, as well as some spoke shaves.
Do you have any hand hewn projects planned for the adze?
Sounds like you've had some nice finds. I need to do a video showing some more of my tools, I've got so many I'd probably have to break it into categories. I hit the mother load about 4 years ago and got a pile of tools all at once, that combined with a continuous search has produced quite a collection. As for future projects for the adze, yes is the short answer. I'll be doing some videos ranging from how an adze is used to doing some timber framing/cabin building. But that is way down the road, but you can count on a video.
The Homestead Craftsman Sounds great, looking forward to it.
A sign taped to your chest...
If there is anything you maybe looking for. I have a freind who owns the community thrift. And he does Estate clean outs all the time. I live in Florida where a lot of folks retire and latter pass away. Hence the vintage Milwaukee sawmill. He is always getting stuff. I would be happy to keep my eyes open . We could run everything shipping etc through either or Paypal or ebay.
I'm always looking for things but have plenty already. Thanks for asking.
wow i go crazy if i am there....
I just picked up at my local independent Thrift. A Milwaukee 1960's Sawszall. Complete with original box and Old Vintage well made blades some don't look used. I bought it to flip it. As that is my sole income. However I WOULD LOVE TO TRADE MY 80'S MILWAUKEE FOR THIS THING RUN LIKE A CHAMP FIRST TRY ORIGINAL CORD. And lighting BOLTS ON THE SIDES SET IT OFF. Beautiful example that can still be used .If anyone is interested in it. Holler at me as I can give a better price .I just got it and am listing it on ebay in a day or two. It is a model #6510.
I like to go to farm auctions to find my hand tools. Was that a Stanley No. 12 or 12 1/2?
david steil Unless I'm just plain wrong, and I could be.........it's a 12 1/2. It has a rose wood sole plate. Perhaps I need schooling on the difference between the two.
Great video im shoping like that in england every sunday u can find good tools for good money bud not good like in usa
Do you find many American tools over your way? Like stanley planes, etc...
Yes stanley, milwaukee but stanley a lot and how is in america with tools in england is to much expen.
The U.S. is huge, so there's going to be a ton of everything making things relatively cheap.
A lot of the older tools I find like squares, chisels and axe heads where made in England.
Yeh here the same old chisel like irwin stanley old malets ,planers, power tools old timber screw everithing u need :-)
I got a big jack plane and I live in new zeland!
andrew b Cool, thanks for watching.
You may have heard this one, but you look a whole lot like a young Steve Winwood.
Who else feels squirrelly during the intro
nice video. I like going to flea markets myself, you can find really good tools there.
My question is. what is it with the gun?
Flea markets are indeed great! I bought the gun for $2 fully loaded. Just Kidding. It was in a concealed holster on my side, It pokes at you when your sitting so I took it out. If your not gun friendly, take comfort knowing that it can't do you harm through the screen, if you would like to know more about it have a look at this video. ua-cam.com/video/4Dfq678n8Gk/v-deo.html
The Homestead Craftsman Seriously, what is with these city folks and their shyness and fear of firearms. I know most city people are unfamiliar with them so they get nervous seeing others with them because the Liberal media has made guns out to be living creatures that can hurt you all by themself. I get why they are freaked out by them but damn, can't they even figure out why a person out in the country might be carrying one? Are they really that dense?
I carry so they don't have too. But I guarantee the biggest anti gun person would put one right between someone's eyes if it meant saving their life. But why they are surprised and feel the need to comment when they see one of the over 300,000,000 guns in the country, I have no idea......
Did you find the gun at the flea market
The Homestead Craftsman Are you sure that plane is a 12 1/2? It should have a rosewood bottom on it unless it has worn off. It didn't look like it did in the video.
Is it stamped 12 1/2?
Jim Watson Yes, it is. The wood is just dark. It is indeed a 12 1/2. I bought it at a flea market, I think it was $15, which isn't a bad deal, but I did try to weasel the price down, but the fella didn't budge. But I wanted it.
Thanks.
Would love to find a powder wedge to buy. Seems like impossible to find .
Wolf King Lobo You could make one.
The Homestead Craftsman Yep. Thats exactly what I decided to do. Gonna make a few because its a lot cheaper and when I buy the steel it has to be very fine quality ,and be massively overbuilt Will probably have to buy it in 20 ft lengths .. Its 4130 steel, which is what most rifle barrels are made out of. I could make a bunch, but I would have to buy insurance to sell them, so its gonna be strictly small time, too much liability.
how do you find these tool flea markets and sales? I would love to attend, and would be able to travel in and around my Kansas City area.
+Jason Langston They're just around, it's not just tools, it's everything.. Just ask some people locally. Yard sales are good too, auctions are an option but I don't like them, take too long.
+Jason Langston For flea markets the best option is Google maps and for garage and estate sales Craigslist is a great resource. You really can find some amazing things at estate sales and garage sales. I've found several axes from your run of the mill true temper in great shape all the way to a vintage Collins and even a Norlund and I've never paid more than $8. I've bought Stanly hand planes and Estwing hammers for a dollar. I've even bought what was described to me by the guy selling it as "an old tool box full of junk" that was a perfectly good restorable toolbox full of Stanly and craftsman wooden handled screwdrivers and a bunch of other cool stuff including two jars full of about 1000 flat washers in every size and thickness imaginable and I paid $1.50 for the whole thing!
Hello.. i. Just. Like. To. Say. Did. I. Love. Fleamarkets..
Thank you for watching.
I would have bought the metal detector. With that tool, you can find treasure and tools for free!.... ;)
Let me sell your products here Denver CO, there is a market for it. Your Videos, i like to use it as product marketing strategy.
i think he robbed some old guy in his barn with the handgun in the background.
There are no flea markets like this with 100 miles of where I live. I find they are more common in the northeast and the midwest.
You nailed it, pistol whipped him good. I buy stuff like this all the time, I'm in the south east, tons of yard sales and flea markets.
The Homestead Craftsman what state are you in? I'm in VA and curious to see if that's the southeast state your in
I like your old music/intro better...
Sorry Ed, went for something a little more barn yard for this one.
I thought you got this gun at flea market
Ha, no. Just did want to be sitting on it.
Whats with the gun you have laying around?
Per Mørkegaard Hansen I had it in a holster and took it out when I sat down........ although I suspect your question was rhetorical.
Per Mørkegaard Hansen It's a gun...and sometimes they get placed on things. It's not like he set the gun on a table where some 5-year-olds were having a tea party. He's alone, sitting on his truck in the middle of a field; Relax, nothing is going to happen.
Per Mørkegaard Hansen A gun is a tool and it is no different than a screwdriver or hammer. Guns used to be plentiful around children years ago. Laying on the table, over the fireplace, leaning against a wall, etc. etc. Even sold in Hardware stores, imagine that. You teach children not to touch your things. You teach them respect. Besides all the other values. And a gun becomes just another boring object to their eyes. The problem is not the gun, but the human mind.
HHH100 I know your replying to the other fella but I thought I'd chime in, Things have changed a good deal, Guns around children are very dangerous, even responsible ones, a kid is still a kid. But there are definitely some skewed ideas on firearms. Bad things happen involving guns, but they also stop a lot of bad things from happening. I was around firearms my entire life as tools for hunting and self defense. While I do have an interest in firearms, it was never a weird interest. I've seen people who've never seen a gun in person before get around one and it is an odd thing, they are mesmerized.
The Homestead Craftsman Life is a risk. What changed are the psychotropic drugs and violence in media. Kids are being poisoned in the mind between drugs, medications and music/TV. It's not the guns no matter how quick you like to knee-jerk. Restoring God in schools would help. But the medications and evil need to go.
why is there gun next to him
+Devin Henderson Is this a rhetorical question not so covertly stating your feelings about firearms?
@ Devin, Why not? That's how many of us southern boys roll.
i'm pretty sure handguns aren't considered old hand tools for woodworking. perhaps these should be kept out of sight when making a video. but wondering why it is there?
wayne d Because it was on my hip in a holster, when I sat down I took it out. There's no problem with it being there or anywhere else. If there was a basket ball in my truck that would not have anything to do with tools either, would you comment on that?
thank you for yet another great video.the point i was trying to make is that it is a focus stealer. almost the whole time i was watching my mind's eye kept getting drawn to it. i sincerely apologize if you felt i was attacking you. far from it. i have absolutely nothing against handguns. my comment was aimed (no pun intended) at the fact that the handgun was having a negative impact on your video for me and my suggestion to just have it out of sight. for example leave it exactly where it is but put a rag over it or something in front of it to disguise it so that it won't steal the focus of your viewers. that's all i was saying. also i want to thank you for answering my question. looking forward to your next video
I've been around and had guns my whole life, so I don't give a second thought to seeing a gun unless it's a potentially sketchy situation. I get your idea of potentially distracting but in general I don't think most people care too much either way. But to ease your mind in case you thought your comment was taken as an attack, it wasn't. But you do get a lot of comments from people who like to comment on videos as if everyone should do, say and think exactly as they do. Guns being a topic that gets a lot of people going. Thanks for watching the video and for the back and forth.
wayne d If you can't focus on the video because guns are not a normal sight for you then that is your problem. Besides, the gun is just sitting there doing nothing. Were you expecting it to suddenly jump up and start shooting like a Liberal would expect it to do? They tremble in fear at the sight of a gun and think the mere presence of one means that people are going to get hurt.
Only someone without experience with firearms would loose focus just because a gun is in sight in a non-threatening scenario. He's out in a field for Christ sake, it's not like you have to worry that the gun is going to get picked up by a kid or that the gun is suddenly going to come to life and take him hostage. Relax sheila, the big bad gun isn't going to hurt anyone.
