Thanks alot for the video, even if my BRZ still don't need this replacement it's a pure joy to watch your videos! Subaru / Toyota always suprises me how "work-friendly" and logic constructed they are. :) Edit: 9 days later watching your video I have to replace both of my CV-axels in front on my Subaru Levorg haha!
@@Aaron-fb6mb I've had to replace another since then but I don't believe that was the axles fault, I have about -10 degrees of camber all from the lower control arms so the axles sit at a weird angle and it's easier for the boot to rip
Great content Kevin, I have a 2018 BRZ and should I worry about one of my axles going bad? Do you think yours leaked grease because of the aftermarket suspension arms? Subbed
It's not something that occurs often unless you're hard on your car and have it significantly lowered. I would guess that my boot got damaged due to my off road excursions at the track 😅
Thinking mine was going out. I felt a clunk feeling while driving 5 mph sometimes while clutch is pressed in and it’ll go kinda faster as I driver a lil faster . Does anyone know anything about that?
@@KevinVo sorry the lip skid plate you have but I see you have a parts list I was just wondering the name of it I like it very much would be nice on my mobile brz armor lol
I've heard most people that track their card don't have very good luck with the auto parts store axles. I don't want to lose track time having to swap out an axle in the paddock, but they may work for some people!
And everyone seems to have the axle nut torque different it’s either 160 150 143 or 141 or 140.1 the last is the one I trust the most I’m having axle nut clicking I’m almost 100% sure it’s just the nut I just don’t wanna waste a new one. Seems like you’re supposed to torque it dry to 140.1 that’s what Subaru says apparently.
Way easier than expected. This platform is so DIY and mod friendly its crazy
Just did this, took less than an hour, thanks again Kevin!
Yo! U torqued to 140 right?axle nut I think he meant to say 140 not 160 I j have one axle nut ticking
@@RagyDmine does the same. only the rear passenger side is making a clicking or ticking

Just a note, axle bolt is not 160 ft-lbs, it's 140 ft-lbs (190nm)

Great video. I couldn’t get the axle out of the hub for the life of me, used a mini sledge hammer and everything. Gave up and took it to a shop. :(
I've had to replace both of mine and got them for rockauto for like $70 a piece and they've been going strong since
Are they still good?

Hey man, which brand did you get?
Great video! Just learned these are a weak point on our 86’s, specially when lowered or boosted
Yeah, they don't like the added stress of the weird angles when lowered.
Recommend getting some solid diff risers.
Mine is seized in, will not hammer out. Axle shaft is starting to mushroom..
Any ideas on removing a seized shaft?
Get a wheel hub removal tool, clamps into the rotors and uses a rod to push out the axle, same thing happened to me
My 2017 86 started making a ticking noise so I guess it’s time to replace my rear axle
Whatd you replace so theres no tick?
solid video i'm replacing my 2nd rear pair in 3 months on my wrx😑
Luckily this is the only time I've had a problem with mine.
Love the new music
Glad you're enjoying it!
Does it have a seal you got to replace? I noticed where the axel goes into the diff is leaking
mine does the same also and i don’t understand why it’s leaking from the diff when the axle is inside
@ its the seal or the boot on the axel it.
Do you need to get an alignment after this?
How do you torque the hub nut down to spec. My torque wrench doesn’t go that high 😂
You need a bigger torque wrench lol
@@KevinVo ughhhh and my torque wrench is too big for my oil pan bolts 😵💫

@@KevinVo Thank you for your reply
What kind of grease did u use?
I just replaced my axles. Everything is connected and nothing is broken but my CEL, abs, and traction lights are on. What’s that mean
Probably abs module got nicked or damaged hopefully not the case
Thanks for this video Kevin !!! learned a bunch. thank you.
Doesn't seem too bad of a job. Maybe I can do it in my driveway
Absolutely doable!
