I'm not really a fan of product reviews, but with this video quality, background music choice and that voice, I'll watch every upload, everything appears so tranquil. Love your desk setup videos the most.
Thanks for the comment! That's nice to hear.
Very informative video David. The shots are extremely clear and professional. I really appreciate how organized and well thought out your videos are. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Matt!
Lots of helpful info man. Its nice to have details about a product and not some obvious infomation. Your channel will do well even without give-aways! keep it up, fun to watch.
love your videos. so intelligent, clear and concise.
"Trådfri" means "wireless" soooooo
makes sense. :)
its because its swedish or something, in Denmark its called "Trådløs" the same as wifi, or bluetooth
Hi David, another great video mate. I enjoy your channel not only because of the awesome ideas and reviews you provide but also the quality of the videos is fantastic. This is something I’m always trying to improve in my own vlogs (although it’s a completely different genre).
I’m looking at enhancing my workspace and was wondering if you had any ideas or tips on shelf space. I’m hoping to come up with something to store some of my camera gear and also for the purpose of displaying some of my old vintage cameras…perhaps an idea for a future video, thanks again! :)
Thanks Andrew! Appreciate the comment. Yeah I've been thinking about how I can add some shelf/storage space to my setup as well. Don't have a perfect solution yet but it's a great idea for a future setup video!
An affordable lightbulb for $20 from xiaomi, I have tried it and still using it, it's so worth it ! U should try it really!
Nicholas Cheung if it's the same quality as the miband I've bought which died after a few months of very light use, no thanks!
I've experienced too many pairing and stability issues with devices like the Mi Band and Wi-Fi repeater 2. Also the apps are full of bugs, unstable and updates tend to break previous working features. Some of the apps/devices also need to connect with their HQ to be operational; not a fan!
I don't know man, i was looking at the prices quickly, 36 to 26 bucks for a bulb i can buy from hue for 14.99 here in Canada, and with hue you getting way more comparability, I've been doing a lot of research about lights and how good they really are in comparison to price, and I've found hue is better more higher prices, but they last longer and have less fail rate and they save so much power in one year they pay for themselves not to mention most of them have a 2 year guarantee. so you're pretty much guaranteed to get your moneys worth twice over! But your video is awesome big fan thanks man!
I agree. The Philip Hues is still a great option. It has a much more mature market with a larger population of users to ensure compatibility and continued support. Not sure about that price though. Last I looked the comparable Philip Hue White Ambiance (white color temp changeable) were slightly more expensive. The Dimmable only Hues might have been cheaper. But yeah if you wait for a sale the Hues can definitely be purchased for cheaper.
IKEA released a RGBW version of their zigbee lamps quite a while ago. The RGBW version is 25€. A hue RGBW gen3 would cost you 60€, so those IKEA lamps could be a great solution if you plan to light a whole house with RGB smart bulbs. Btw: you can just pair the IKEA bulbs with your hue bridge, so you can get the best of both worlds.
Techy Techerson for me its the complete oposite . I live in denmark and here a ikea trådfri light bulb cost $10. And a phillips hue bulb costs around $25
Seriously, how do you only have 44k subscribers?? Your content is on point, and refreshing, and... different! Keep it up man!
Thanks man!
Hi, I’ve just watched the video, very clear and concise thankyou, any chance you can make an updated one including there new outlet (plug) and integrating with Apple HomePod etc ?
Still delivering some of the highest quality videos I've seen. Really hoping your channel gets that spark and you get a hell of a lot more subscribers. Keep it up!
Thanks man!
Sweet video bro, really interesting
Great review - super helpful with making a buying decision, thanks!
Hey David, i discovered your channel 30 minutes ago and now i addicted :D
Would be nice to know, if, in which company you are working or in which city you are living.
Keep doing so! Sorry for the possible mistakes and greetings from Germany :)
Works fine but the problem is when there is power interruption. Imediatelly after power is recovered all remote controled lights comes on by default which is a big disadvantage.
great video man thumb up ill have to check it out.
Somebody knows how to do a intro summary! 👍
Hello. Thank you for this well presented video. Before buying, I have a question. It is possible to power on the bulb from OFF to 50% directly by pressing the remote dimmer button ? And then, if need, press the 100% button ? It can be done in application ? Or by voice commands via Google or Alexa ? Many thanks.
Would you make an updated review now that Apple HomeKit, Hue and Android support is available?
Davide Lombardo wait do these lights support HomeKit?
ItsMeGeorge yes
Could you use your phones Google Assistance instead of a Google Home?
Another great video very good info David, Ikea always carries pretty cool stuff. I'm paying them visit next month. Too bad I live 4 hours away from closest one.
Thanks! Yeah. Have fun when you go there next month! lol
So, I'm new to the channel. Is this like a IKEA review channel?
hey david, I was wondering if I bought the gateway and an ikea rgb light bulb - would the gateway work with that bulb too, or do it only have white colours?
if you read the manual you will know there is fine adjustment of the color, just long press the color button
which app.....???
Thank you for this excellent video! You are great to listen to :)
Can you fine tune light color temperature in the app? And enable somehow more than 3 presents for the physical controller?
Hi David, this is probably the best review on this light kit.
Can you please tell me if I chose to use the lights from the traditional light switch will they revert to the last used settings or to a specific one and also if they are switched off from the remote/app will they power on just by using a traditional light switch?
Thank you!
Thanks! From my testing the bulbs do remember the last setting when using a traditional light switch! Support in combination with traditional light switches is an amazing feature that I forgot to mention. So for some rooms I just use a traditional light switch (and grab my phone to change the dim/color if necessary) And Yes again! If you power off the light from the remote/app if you toggle your traditional light switch off then on they will turn on to their last color/dim setting. And finally if you're curious. If you change any settings to the light bulbs using the app while the bulb is powered off (from a light switch) when you switch the light switch back on it goes to the last setting (not the new setting you may have made on the app), which is the only fault I notice when using these bulbs with a traditional light switch.
Interesting. Budding technology. I'll have to wait for it to mature a bit though. Nice video.
I agree. Always good to wait for this stuff to mature to ensure they don't abandon it.
can these bulbs work without gateway? via app?
Thanks for sharing. What type of light fitting is this that you are using to screw the bulbs into? Thanks.
What's the multiple light bulb stand?
Did you ever find out?
@@Space_Octopus-z4m would like to know this as well LOL
2:35 does this work trough internet? Like, Can I turn the light ON/OFF when am not home? Just using the Google home app?
Wait, can't you set the colour temperature and dimmer to automatically change at different times of day? So can't you set one of those changes for the same time as your alarm?
Hi Will it work with a amazon echo Alexa thanks. Jeff
Would the basic model with remote be best for someone who just want to be able to turn ON/OFF multiple lights via physical switch? (no smartphone controlling or wifi network connection required)
Do those bulks have a clock built in or how do they know the time in the morning? Internet over the bridge?
From one David to another, nicely done.
Just discovered your channel and have been getting lost in your videos!
While I think this product primarily has only an audience of early-adopters, I believe the price will come down as this becomes the norm in the future.
Now excuse me while I flit off to an appealing thumbnail on another video of yours.
Thanks David!
How do I connect my tradfri gateway to my phone?I know its from the app but i struggle doing it.
amazing video! definitly a cool product. is ther a possibility to connect them to google assistant and turn the lights on with your voice?
RIght now. No. No way to connect/automate them through 3rd party apps. I've read they plan on adding APIs for this potentially be a thing in the future. But as is, you're limited to whatever is in the IKEA app.
Ok, thanks for the reply!
Xiaomi Yeelight ?
great Vid. So what all do i need to buy to be able to control 2 light bulbs separately?
No
So it doesn't work with apple homekit yet?
@ David Zhang1.Is it possible to switch on/off different lights seperately by using only one remote control? Or do I need the app for that.
*"Is it possible to switch on/off different lights seperately by using only one remote control?"* That is the question I have also, did you find out?
How far can you be to use the controller ?
Dose it support Google home
Home assistant fixes all that problems
Great video! Is the gateway available in Canada?
yes the gateway is available in Canada. I purchased it from my local IKEA in Canada.
"sigh" maybe one day IKEA will decide to release this product in Australia... maybe one day...
I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for this one, looks like it’s finally here on the IKEA AU website!
Very late here but I thought I'd tell you that å is pronounced the same way as "au" in "fraud"
Ikea TRÅDFRI will grow big but its really not that attractive with the pricing and the function as of now.
I would rather go with Phili Hue that is Apple Homekit ready and much more different kind of light bulbs.
They are great lights but you cannot control each bulb individually which is what I need so I had to return them.
Music Lover get more remotes
how come you use the axigel pencil instead of the uni kerotoga?
Just testing some new new pencils. I don't know why. I barely write anymore. I just find them fascinating. haha
I got an RGB kit in IKEA in Ireland
Sky View Ireland Got one in the US!
I would just get the Yeelight color bulbs
Cheaper than Philips Hue and it also supports amazon echo
Never tried that brand before. I'm tried similar types of solutions before but the software was always a little buggy and I like having a physical remote controller. But I haven't tested the Yeelight so I'm not commenting on it specifically.
Yeelight is a part of xiaomi light ecosystem, i have RGBW bulb on my desk lamp, works great! and you don't need the hub for it (except you want smart home this bulbs)
Yup the yeelight system is from Xiaomi.
I live in HK and it only cost me around $14usd for each color light bulb.
And it has a phone app to adjust brightness/colors/etc.
It Doesn't support Apple HomeKit atm I think .
The have colour alternativen now
vai durar um mês
Can you post a link to your light stand?
I'm using these light boxes from CowBoy Studio: amzn.to/2qoRUDm
Pronounced Traudfril
It is possible to use a Raspberry pi with Linux installed, attach an USB dongle, CC2531 $7, and connect to the smart devices. That way a computer can automate the shit out of Ikea's Trådfri smart home collection.
Softwares used: Gentoo Linux, Mosquitto, zigbee2mqtt, mosquitto_pub.
Your welcome.
i think this guy like ikea so much he s hould work there?
Be careful with the gateway. I am pretty sure there is little if any built in security which can then be used as an access point to compromise your network.
That's true! Definitely good to consider that. I've read up a little on that and some independent reports say this system is pretty safe (nothing is bullet proof). As the whole thing only operates locally with no external communication. But that can always change.
It seems like it is one of the better ones regarding security: mjg59.dreamwidth.org/47803.html
The worst bulbs to buy is from IKEA ..... I bought 3 bulbs, 2 of them were damaged after two years and it is supposed to live longer than that ..... And of course, I lost the bill due to the long time. They said they cannot change them for me because I don't have the bill knowing that Ikea name is printed on the box and on the lamp ....
Just buy a new bulb and use that bill to return the old bulb. I have bought a 30+ bulbs from IKEA, and only one of the early ones has broken (it constantly reboots).
Tradfri hasn't been around for two years yet... and I live in one of the three countries where they launched the system months ahead of the global introduction.
Are you sponsored by Ikea?
Nope. Just a fan of their stuff.
i hope it's going to be a great giveaway...i wish that you can visit Hawaii and go barefoot too when I get to show you the places where I go in Hawaii
Great video David, well done with the review and videography. I’m just starting my own channel mostly doing technology based review, tips and demo videos, and would appreciate it if you could have a look and provide me with some feedback. You can reach me through UA-cam or via twitter/instagram @jakereevesvideo. It’s great to see another Canadian technology reviewer doing so well!
I made a video that shows how to open the remote non-destructively:
ua-cam.com/video/NMupi1FeAB8/v-deo.html
should have done RGB TBH
Maybe they will in the future. While I get the appeal for RGB lights, the novelty wears off for me pretty quickly. I do wish sometimes though that these would supported a cooler white color. I think the Phillip Hue White Ambiance can go up to 6500k
Yeah true, 6500k just looks so clean.
They have now :)
Ignorant much? Trådfri means wireless
Thank you for dispelling our ignorance, what language is Trådfri?
Name of the light bulb stand?
