as a former trad cat, i find your perspective interesting. Currently a Catechuman. I am trying to fully embrace the full ethos of Orthodoxy and shedding the legalistic mindset the RC offers.

Can you tell more on the legalistic mindset of RC or where I can read about it?

@@FaithfulComforter Basically focusing on the letter of the law over the spirit of the law. An example of this in RC would be that you technically can't use artificial contraception, but you can use natural contraception (body cycles) to prevent the birth of a child. Another example would be how divorce and remarriage is impossible without annuling the marriage but allowing the marriage to be annuled on the grounds of claiming that the couple didn't know what they were getting into (basically permitting annulments for any couple that wants a divorce). Technically since the church granted an annulment, you are not sinning by getting remarried. It's a mortal sin to sneeze during mass (I am exaggerating on that one, but not by much). Say a rosary and kiss the crucifix reverently afterwards and you get to skip purgatory time. Stuff like that. There are many examples.

@@mathieuconklin3146 That's a little insincere, don't you think? You're exaggerating incredibly by the sneeze at mass line. There is no issue. None. As far as the rosary and crucifix line, that tells me you never understood what an indulgence is and how they work. How exactly is mercy "legalistic"? Were you praying to earn points or to communicate with those in Heaven and in the case of the rosary, meditate on the life of Christ? Come on. In any religious tradition there are rules, and if you think Orthodoxy is free wheeling and lacking rules, you're going to be disappointed. You want any one of the thousands of Protestant denominations, where everyone is their own pope.
It's one thing to leave a denomination, but at least have the integrity of being truthful about what you're saying. Or is that not a thing in Orthodoxy? It appears the niggle with your judgment of "the letter of the law over the spirit of the law" is more important than Matthew 16:18, which you're leaving. That, or you never actually knew the "laws" you're referencing. It's unfortunate.

Could you address the current issue surrounding the deaconess? It's one thing I'm having a hard time with right now.
