      5d mark iii perfect by itself, it even has 1080p all-i or you can even get 1080p 14bit uncompressed raw with a mod called Magiclantern that's easy to use and unloads the data to the CF and SD card. You can also get fancier resolutions and blah blah blah but all you need is the 1080p from Magic lantern because it essentially looks like the c100 mark II but in a 5D mark iii body.
      Second thought get a 5d Mark ii anyway, it has a vintage look and color science that you just can't get anymore, but ironically while I was looking, both the 5d mark II and III are the same price used lol

      @@collapsingruins it s currently an absolute bargain but it is also the most unloved M43 camera ever made. If you need solid AF then the G9mkii or the GH7 may be a better option. For taking photos, making videos for you tube or making movies with friends it’s perfect 👌 plus the colours beat all my canons,Olympus,Sony and Dji cameras. In my opinion :) - anything I film, I look back at and smile. I’ll never sell mine.

      @@Memory_Gatherers For video, I have many other cams and camcorders that I like. I've gotten very good at color grading over the last few years, so it doesn't really matter to me if the colors are that nice or not. I do it the way I like it in post-production. I love tweaking things. Is there a big difference between the first g9 and the mkII?

    • @Memory_Gatherers
      @Memory_Gatherers 9 днів тому

      @@collapsingruins the mkii has the new Panasonic phase detect AF system so you won’t get pulsing etc in the background using AF, it also has a host of features included with the GH6 though I don’t think it has a fan so you can’t record for eternity like you can with the GH6. I think the streaking issue that the GH6 has is also sorted in the G9ii but tbh after what three years or so I’ve never come across it anyway plus 90% of the time I use MF so phase detect makes no odds to me. The G9mkii and the GH7 are both great cameras but apart from real time LUTs not enough to sway me from the GH6 maybe if they do a GH8 with 8K and A7Siii lowlight capability then I’d be grabbed :)

    • @collapsingruins
      @collapsingruins 9 днів тому +1

      @Memory_Gatherers 8K??? Where are you going to save and edit the files? Holy crap. I think 4k is already ridiculous in terms of its data consumption.... 500% crop as a life task? :D If I want to go that route, I'll have to set up a whole new desktop for it. I don't see the point. You can easily upscale in 4-5 years without sacrificing rendering quality. I don't see the point in shooting that big... I like a camera that is unique, not only in the workflow but also in the way it looks, it doesn't have to be sharp and clean, it has to have character. That's how I love my old Canon 5D classic and 6D mkI so much. It has that unique look. With film cameras these days, it's really hard to get something unique because everyone is trying to make the most hyper-realistic pissing contest. Photography and videography will never be a reflection of reality, it will always be an abstraction. I think the search and push for realism is usually quite silly. You try to convince people that something is real, even though it's just a recording. You can't feel it, you can't smell it, you can't touch it, it's just an abstraction. To me, it's not a big deal if a camera has some flaws, even if the rending is off, or it makes some noise or streaks, it gets the shot some uniqueness to it. I like that a lot.

    Gear-wise, it's all important. I like to think of it in terms of audio production. You can't regain quality downstream so any down sampling in the pipeline will limit the fidelity of the final output. If any one thing is important, it's the performance/subject. But yeah, microphones and lenses are probably the most important pieces of gear. They need to be comparable to the human senses, and are the start of the capture pipeline. This is all such gray area though.

I love the focal length versatility of 16-80mm, and its constant aperture. Bokeh quality is quite pleasing (for a zoom). The 70-300mm is a nice lens, but I have trouble with focusing / tracking, this could be very much a user's error, or that I am trying to shoot (photos of) Western house martin birds, which are among the fastest ones in my country.

    My dinosaur of a photography teacher used to tell us about the three L's that we had to rescind at every morning meetup in class, LIGHT - LENS - LOCATION.
    Nothing else mattered, it was all the things we ever needed to remember, get it right there or go home was his moto as he taught us how to use DSLR's way back in the early 2000s.
    He absolutely hated those things because it made photography too easy he said, people would take bad photos and try correct them in post, rather than trying to spend more time to take a good picture to begin with. And I start to see he was right all along! Canon 1Dc is waiting for you Kasey, gorgeous 4k 24p image, the sensor in that camera has insane micro contrast by the way, proven by the 3D Pop cult forums which seems to rave about how legendary the camera is even with a plastic kit lens it produces good results.

I loved the lenses so much I waited and waited for digital rangefinder equivalent cameras came around. My obsession with these lenses saved me from small sensor pain. I adapted them to the Sony A7 and A7Siii. They have a really beautiful quality. Still , not as high resolution as modern Zeiss. The current Zeiss glass is much better. Something rarely touched upon is that so much of the high-tech that was brought forth in the last 70 years was never on the drawing-board anywhere. It was all just announced as 'look what we've invented'. It's as if Bell Labs (amongst others who shall remain nameless) had a direct link to some tech that was either ultradimensional, interdimensional, or extra-terrestrial. Mankind didn't go from steam engines to lasers, nukes and IC's out of their own ingenuity in a timespan shorter than a generation. Anyone who studies civilizational progress through the ages could tell you this, but I guess they never look.

      A used fujinon 14mm 2.8 if you want the 21mm FF equivalent. Goes for around 350. It's one of their first lenses so that's kinda close to vintage. I think it's a waste to use a fuji camera and not have a fuji lens on it. Same as using a Canon and not using EF glass.

    If you can handle the crop 7DII and the 90D might offer you some interesting options for wild life, the original 7D was a bit of an upgrade from the 5DII for frame rates, I can't remember what the magic lantern firmware offered to 5D II shooters. 7D had fantastic colours but no autofocus just like the 5D in video, 7DII, 70D, and 90D all offer autofocus in video, the 80D does as well but I hate recommending 80D to people, just saying 80D make me feel distracted and makes it hard to focus. of course if you got that camera making the announcement that you now officially have 80D might earn you "special consideration" from the rest of us over thinking perfectionists with obsessive technical hobbies and massive over consideration for anything remotely interesting until .....SQUIRREL!

      @@iamionscat9035 3d pop in terms of Zeiss is combination of lens property, that make zone near focus very smooth in transition and keep razor sharp in focus plane across frame same time. It hard to achieve from engineering point of view. very few teams make it, like Zeiss and Leica. In addition, image very far from focus is Gaussian smooth, no "donuts" like circles with darker center. All GM lenses are very different, some have very strong "3d pop" like 50F12, some less. Lens that I have 24F14 definitely have that property, some tell main design idea was exactly very nice far blur, a.k a "bokeh" but area near camera before focus is not that great, so it have "offset" to prefer main character and background scenes that it perfect. Other lenses have different tuning, prefer close area like macro but not good background, some very expensive have both same (cinema Zeiss $20000, not for us mortals). You better grab one and see before spend money.

    In my inexperienced, barely informed camera world, I suspect the continuing situation you notice in mfgs pulling back on camera features is all due to overheating. Overheating became such a huge profit killer for mfgs that they quit the intense features rather than suffer the purchase returns and bad press. At first they thought they could sell the market a "little" overheating and get by- it cost them a lot to learn that lesson. As miniaturization and weight reduction squeeze all the air (that helped cooling) out of devices, and fans contribute to size, noise, and battery drain, their only solution is to drop the features that cause heat. And those features are the very ones your filming style demands/desires. Am I right or wrong?

    Almost all full frame hybrid bodies suck for video, like 4k60 with a 1.5 crop shouldn't even count, that's misleading customers, how do they even dare to mention it. Put a t1.4 23mm on a 6700 and you have a FF equivalent of 35mm t2 in 4k60, but the full frame bodies turn your equally as compact 35mm t1.8 into an ugly 53mm t2.7. So a7IV, a7c2, Nikon Zf, Z6ii, hell even a7cR can't do proper 4k60, they need to step up their game, APSC kings like a6700 and X-S20 beat them and come it at under €1.5k lmfao
