I’d visit my dad every other weekend when I was a wee little lad. I’d spend the night Friday and Saturday. There’s a short list of games that we’d play all the time. Halo 3. Ultimate alliance. Mario kart 64. Smash bros 64. A few others too, but for whatever reason, we owned this. I’d always pick Baraka because hitting b would have his blades pop out (deathstroke too but 7 year old me thought baraka was cooler) I would do this because they dealt a ton of damage and no one could really stop me. Neither of us were really good at fighting games so he’d never be able to get me out of a combo. Eventually he’d start picking baraka too and it would quickly devolve into a sweaty button mashing slap fight. Another thing was the way the announcer said Barakas name when you chose him. My dad would wait for the announcer to say it and then he’d say, in as close to the voice as he could, “Obama”. For whatever reason it bother me because it felt like he wasn’t taking it seriously. Because child me was taking it deadly serious. He also deliberately would wait for me to come over to progress through the games story mode. Once we had both darkseid and shao Kahn unlocked he starting playing as them and eventually got really good as Kahn. For whatever reason his move set managed to counter my baraka blade spam. Anyway. Sorry for the tangent. This game isn’t very good but I hold it close to my heart. It reminds me of my dad and the few times I’d get to see him as a kid. I still see him now and then but my job and school makes it harder than ever to find time. Next time I go to his place I’m gonna fish this out and play it with him. Thanks for the throwback.
He also hit Zatana in the liver before she could cast a spell and choked out Black Canary, who is also a master at combat, before she could use her Canary Cry
In Theory Dark Kahn could work as a Fusion but take the "Randomly give people Rage to just fight for no reason" ability away and give him some Unique powers if possible. Not going to lie I played the hell out of this game. I don't think it's as bad as people say, however it does sit low on the franchise rankings if I'm to think about my favorites. Honestly my biggest complaint was things like the lack of alternate skin / costumes for people. I think the DC roster could have been a little bit better with their selections, but this allowed me to play out some really nerdy fantasy matchups. I liked the novelty in that. Sure it wasn't as gory as the last games, however if you were to compare it to the original three games it kind of isn't far off from those, it's probably on the same level as Mortal Kombat 1 and 2 to some extent. So it almost kind of felt like a little bit of a throwback there. I think one thing that this game didn't need was the 3D fighting space. I found myself very rarely actually maneuvering around other characters and when you just kind of played it as if it was a 2D fighter it felt pretty solid. However this is most definitely a game for casuals, it's more about the silliness and the spectacle rather than a really well-balanced fighting game. And a lot of really cool things came from this game. The intricate cinematic story modes that nether realm is known for started here, and then obviously it helped pave the way for the injustice series.
