    Hi there! I just subscribed to your channel! I have a question regarding this lense: how do you find the AF noise? Is the noise level of the AF acceptable during vlogging videos? Is your microphone helping to reduce the noise level of the AF? Thanks! I have to decide between the canon 10-18 mm and this Tokina lense.

    • @ajwilliamsmedia
      @ajwilliamsmedia  4 роки тому +3

      Good question! At the time I made this video I hadn’t had it long enough to know, but after using it for a while the noise isn’t too bad. It’s definitely there, but if you’re using an external mic, on camera or lav, it’s quite acceptable. Just don’t use built in mics. ✌🏽

    • @ajwilliamsmedia
      @ajwilliamsmedia  4 роки тому +1

      It depends on what you’re planning to film with the lens. The Tokina 11-16 is my favorite crop frame vlogging lens. It’s also great for landscape and Astro photography. The sigma 17-50 is an insanely good upgrade to the kit 18-55. It’s my go-to general use lens.

    Would you recommend it to use it on the Canon eos R for real state and interior photos ?

    • @ajwilliamsmedia
      @ajwilliamsmedia  Рік тому +1

      I think the eos R has a pretty gnarly crop in 4K. This lens would be a good choice to compensate for that, but I usually go with a 15mm on full frame for real estate videos. The comparable focal length in APS-C would be around 11mm, but I think the 4K crop is more than normal APS-C. Photos in APS-C mode would be fine and you may be able to use the 15-16mm range on the full sensor. I’m planning a video about that and I’ll be filming it soon!

      @ajwilliamsmedia  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Those lenses complement each other very well. I love having the full range covered from 11 through 50. There really isn’t a noticeable difference in quality between them, which makes it a great lens set IMO.

    • @ajwilliamsmedia

      I can’t say for sure. I know the M50 has a significant crop in 4k and the speed booster is supposed to get it close to APS-C size. I’d think it would work, but I can’t be 100% certain without testing that exact setup.

  • @theshadowslynx8855
    @theshadowslynx8855 3 роки тому

    I recently got this lens. Let me preface that your review was great! I noticed that you said that there wasn't a lot of vignetting from the K&F variable ND filters. I was just wondering if you still stood by this now that you've had the lens for a longer time, since I know ND filters tend to struggle with UWA. I'm pretty much exclusively into photography, so I want something to let me take longer exposures during the day to get that nice 'flowy' water effect.

    • @ajwilliamsmedia
      @ajwilliamsmedia  3 роки тому +1

      What you saw in this video was my very first reaction. Having used it for a while and seeing it on bigger screens, there is definitely more vignetting than I saw in the flip screen. It’s totally acceptable at lower VND strengths, but be very careful at higher strengths. I’ve ruined 2 or 3 shots because of heavy vignettes 😳 Also, I am using variable ND’s and the vignettes seem to be strong on those than standard ND filters.
      If I were you and I was doing daylight long exposures, I would get a good set of standard ND filters and stay away from VND’s. Hope that helps. ✌🏽

      No problem! I don’t think it’s an audit on the lens as much as an audit on the filter though. 11mm is a tough ask for any VND filter to do well.

  • @jakebanfield9154
    @jakebanfield9154 3 роки тому

    Great video A.J, thanks. I'm thinking about getting this lens and that was very helpful. I have a question about the lighting in your studio set up, I really like it and my studio layout is similar. How have you lit your main talking shots above? A key light and then a back light bouncing off the wall? It looks sick...

    • @ajwilliamsmedia
      @ajwilliamsmedia  3 роки тому

      Thanks! I use a Godox VL150 as the key above me. Almost like at a top-down angle but slightly more toward so that it lights my face. I use a bounce below to compensate for shadows under my chin and nose. For the BG I use a Godox sl60 with a blue gel to light the wall.
      That’s the main setup. I change it up from time to time by adding a quasar science tube as a hair-light. I find that using that with the 11-16mm gives the image a weird flare though, so I only use that on tighter shots.

    • @ajwilliamsmedia
      @ajwilliamsmedia  2 роки тому +1

      The short answer is yes, but it’s not the worst autofocus noise. Also, because it’s so wide, it doesn’t need to focus as much as other lenses do. I made a 1 year update video for this lens and I have a noise example without music in it here if you’re interested.

This is the first time i have this kind of lens in my hand, and i feel that the focus ring is very easy to rotate (it doesn't require much strength from my hand). When in manual focus, the focus ring is much easier to turn than the zoom ring for sure. It still feels nice to me though. There is a little resistance, but not too much. And I love that it has hard stops making it possible to install a follow focus system when you need that extra precision!
