They've actually become more questionable of being traitors now than during the horus heresy. They fought the traitors than, everywhere they could. Lion was absolutely loyal. But now? The lore really doesn't have anywhere to go with my boys in green, until the Lion wakes up. I imagine the resolution of the Fallen storyline is going to go hand in hand with Lion's awakening. So they keep on just having DA tread water with Fallen stuff until GW decides to pull the trigger on waking up the Primarch.
Yeah I’ve read this book and and first I was skeptical but this tau is essentially a psychopath they had him in stasis and he could still wake himself up enough inside the pod and have conversations with others (mostly violent)

Here's how they could have made War of Secrets make sense: have the Dark Angels inform the Angels of Absolution, or just their chapter master, about the psychic plague on their planet and its origins to the Fallen. So as not to attract the attention of the Inquisition and the plague's true origins, The Unforgiven bait the Tau into attacking the Angels of Absolution's home world. Before that happens the Angels of Absolution "leave" their planet for a crusade abroad, only to come "back" after they hear it's under assault and liberate their home world from the Xenos, after the Tau take care of the psychic plague of course. That way the Angels of Absolution appear as liberators coming to save their people, while The Unforgiven quietly get an uncomfortable nuisance out of the way. The Inquisition, if they investigate at all, merely write the incident off as a random Xenos attack.

How can a group (the Dark Angels inner circle) that has kept a huge secret for ten thousand years hand out pieces of equipment with their logo on it? I would expect them to not only have stocks of all their gear without color or insignia, but also to have other people's gear (loyal and traitor) in case they need to leave false evidence. When the Angels of Absolution looked at that skull, it should have been autographed, "I am Alpharius."

I read this book and although I love everything DA this book was written showing the Darkest parts of the DA when regarding the new Primaris marines. I know the DA are very suspicious and will do whatever it takes to defeat the fallen BUT all the stuff they did to themselves made me question the writer it seemed like a lot of loop holes in their actions I.e assisting and even accepting help from the tau.

This would be the perfect way to introduce the Lion; they engage in a civil war and the Angels of Absolution and their allies start to gain the upper hand, and then the Dark Angels awaken Lion El’Jonson and tell him of the situation. He then gets pissed and reveals himself, telling everyone to stop the fighting and unites the Dark Angels legion once again and goes on a massive hunt for the Fallen.
This is super sweet. I've been putting together my first ever Space Marine chapter, and I'm going with a penal chapter made of repented Fallen who are forced to go through the Rubicon Primaris and serve their death sentence in service to the Imperium in hopes of earning forgiveness. I'm really enjoying filing off all of the imperial symbols from a bunch of Primaris models. My theory is that they work with the Ordo Chronos as they fight during the chronostrife and that the Ordo is helping the dark angels to find the fallen across time and space. it's pretty fun to put this together, and I'm enjoying it for the first time, speaking as a tyranids player.
Consorting with Xenos again. Wonder what the Inquisition thinks about the Watchers (at least the one who hadn’t accidentally died and ended up ground up in the ration tins of Death Korps of Krieg troopers

The Tau were hunting more infected INSIDE the monastery. The Fact a XENOS was holding up his part of the deal way better than the Astartes has to be a major blow to them on SO MANY LEVELS. Oh... and the had to call in an orbital strike to stop ONE battlesuit and the pilot still escaped. Wow! So much liquid incompetence.
Given that Azrael, Sammael and Belial can all command their successor chapters (hence accusations that the First Legion never really disbanded), I find such internal conflict highly unlikely. That being said GW are wont to disregard established lore when it suits.
I believe its even worse due to the fact that the skull was chattering vociferously upon him being in its proximity and finding it.... I believe it implied that modren(sp?) Was himself either previously known or ( i believe completely, unknown) to him as one of the "best culled without question" infected with the psychic plague.... This further complicates, and intrigues things.... Because, he regardles would have deduced its cogitative function and purpose at this point... Divulging to himself, or damning to his gene-brethren.. his infernal status, and fate... if discovered...

Wow that was excellent! Now a few things.... The angels of absolution going to war against the DA? Probably not the best idea for many reasons but it would make for a excellent story. It might bring the knowledge of the fallen to light and that can only end up bad for all the unforgiven.... but that said if it reached that point where it seemed civil war was inevitable wouldn’t that then be the best time for the Lion to finally come back!!!
Well...I mean is anyone really surprised? The DA have slaughtered entire planetary populations to kill one person and even attacked other loyalists to the extent of ignoring demonic invasions. They literally organized a crusade against the Space Wolves and then fucked off when Magnus showed up leaving the Space Wolves to fight a two front war against demons on one side, and fellow Imperials on the other. And they slaughtered the entire population of a moon to find one fallen, which they never found. And on the very world below Imperial Guard and several fellow marine chapters were fighting a Waaaagh! The DA never helped and fucked off again. I don't think there is a more heretical chapter.
Not that a Tau battle suit isn't a powerful weapon but you're in an unknown location while the 20 marines know the entire monastery and have access to anti dreadnought class weaponry. These are also suppose to be super human soldiers not cannon fodder like guardsmen. The fact he "escaped" is also bs. You're now a blue unarmed dude running around a fortress with dudes in power armor around every corner that just melted your battlesuit down and you don't have a map.

What I now honestly think after reading/listening to the Horus Heresy series is the Lion was just as stunned about Luther as the Emperor was at Horus...and we saw the exact same fight in PRIMARCH/MARINE scale. Make me wonder if this wasn't done by Big E on purpose. It was just supposed to happen before Battle on Vengeful Spirit...not after..or maybe it happened after to give the Lion a reason to cone back.

The dangles are my least favorite chapter. In my eyes, they're all traitors not for any sins of The Fallen but due to their actions since the heresy. They've shown themselves time adn again to be unreliable and if not outright hostile then at least antagonistic towards the rest of the imperium as a whole.

It was Kais in a specialised dreadnought / battlesuit. The dude is on level with Farsight and Shadowsun with a melee specialisation. Little exaggerated but not as stupid as it sounds.
Frankly given the dark Angels behavior? I would charge the whole chapter with treason for not bringing this to light. Frankly? I find the dark Angels to be pretty aggrivating and infuriating.
I think they should fuck off to another part of space and just let that shit drop. Hell if I was theri chapter master and knew about The Fallen I would have been pissed about not being communicated with, but losing only a couple dozen dudes? Probably worth it. It's the GRIM darkness - not the DEEP Darkness. Revenge? No, but I think I'd ask the DA's for something in return. Some relic, some asset to balance out the loss. Hell, maybe get some XXXtra goodies from Cawl's armories - gimme a sweet sweet Astraeus x3 and call it even steven.

This. Most of the Loyalist Legions had some traitors, purged them and were honest about it. The Dark Angels? Nope, never happened. We'll keep killing our allies to hide we're killing traitors (sarcasm). Cannot wait till Johnson awakens and kills the current Dark Angels leaders, specifically Azrael.
I forget which Dark Angels book mentions it, but when a battle brother learns the truth of the Fallen and flips out, the Chaplain speaks code words to shutdown the brother. He then commands the brother to forget everything about it, stating that such a measure might seem extreme, but no brother will ever be allowed to betray the Chapter again. Every Dark Angel in every successor Chapter is hypno-indoctrinated by the Chaplains to obey certain High Gothic code phrases. Some phrases are known by the Inner Circle, and even the Lord Cypher knows about some of them. The Chaplains can even shutdown the Chapter Masters if necessary. I don't think the Angels of Absolution are real. I think they are a red herring bait laid by the Chaplains to convince self-doubting Fallen to turn themselves in for 'Absolution'. The Angels of Absolution are the 'Good Cop' to the Dark Angels 'Bad Cop', but no Dark Angel will ever betray the Chapter again, and the Chaplains are watching.

Taking it a step further... The AoA screaming traitor, rampaging among Worlds, Bobby G finally takes actions against the DA, learning of their secrets from the AoE themselves, caus they believe they're free of sins. Nontheless, Bobby G can't have "his" Warriors fight each other, excummunicates the whole DA Legion (DA+successors) and slays them. Azraels Blood getting saved by a watcher in the Dark, who gets this right to Lions Chamber, the blood de-snoozes his clock and the Lion finds his not-so-dear brother slaying his Soldiers. During an epic Battle between both brothers, Cypher shows up, tabs Bobby G on the left shoulder and passing the lion sword to el Johnson on his right. Cypher gets bit**slapped by the ultra-smurf the Lion closes his eyes, focuses his inner super sayan and ends the fight in a single blow with his sword. After that he leaves to tea-party with Cypher who tells him of the Fallen Legion gatherin, the Lion takes once again control over them, founding his own Imperium of Mankind as opposed to Booby G's and we have a full fletched Civil War. *BAM* ur welcom GW for the Lore for 10th ed. 40k...

The only thing I don’t get is why couldn’t the dark angels tell the angles of absolution about the physic plague and Cohorio (plz correct if I got that wrong) I mean I get the unforgiven are extremely secretive about the fallen and justifiably so but the angle of absolution are also dark angle descence who have helped hunt the fallen before so couldn’t they have covertly informed them even if just the chapter master as they would probably have a considerably easier time dealing with the situation without tipping of the inquisition (and wouldn’t need to negotiate with Xenos)
Remleiz, this was a classic Gav Thorpe tortured story line. The artifact proves nothing at all to anybody. In the grim dark, this thing could have been a thrice stolen doo-hickie from whenever. 1- The Dark Angels would never tell him the full truth. There is no reason to tell him the full truth, it would achieve no good. If he knew that there were some kind of psychic plague on his world, then it might be justified. If he didn't, then it was just those pesky Tau doing what they do. This is manufactured drama. Azrael just tells him, "thank you" and moves on. 2- If the chapter master would consider that the Dark Angels were really trying to destroy his chapter, then they could have come in force, they would have been allowed inside, then they could have pulled a Calth and just shot the guy beside them. 3-A classicly tortured Gav Thorpe bad story. Gav would have you believe a chapter master leaps to this nonsense conclusion which was only true due to the aforementioned "tortured storyline". This book was a hackneyed litany of tropes and overreaches, just like Indomitus. . . a Gav special. Why is the most secretive, controlled, and stoic Legion suddenly blurting out angry emotional screeds? Bad writing, that's how. Gav find the feel of the Dark Angels again, great job! Whenever I see one of my Legion's books written by Gav, it drops my spitits.

I get the funny feeling the girlyman already knows about the Fallen, if not from before his fall, but from the primaris opening their mouths. So something happens and Azrael is forced to spill the beans on the Fallen, gurlyman just looks at him and chastises him like a (normal 2nd millennium) uncle would his young nephew. Like no superhuman posturing, no politicing, just "I'm not angry, just disappointed".

War of Secrets is such a weird book, as in, it doesn't make much sense. Why wouldn't the Dark Angels just inform the Angels of Absolution about the infected people on their home world, then both chapters could purge it. Why involve the Tau at all and trade places, purging each other's planets. I know the meme of Dark Angels being chaos marines, but colluding with Xenos to purge your own world is the most traitorous thing the chapter has done IMO. But keep in mind, it wasn't done with Azrael's knowledge, seems like it was the work of some rogue chaplain acting on his own weird agenda.

Dark Angels: "PLEASE DON'T TELL!"
Here's how they could have made War of Secrets make sense: have the Dark Angels inform the Angels of Absolution, or just their chapter master, about the psychic plague on their planet and its origins to the Fallen. So as not to attract the attention of the Inquisition and the plague's true origins, The Unforgiven bait the Tau into attacking the Angels of Absolution's home world. Before that happens the Angels of Absolution "leave" their planet for a crusade abroad, only to come "back" after they hear it's under assault and liberate their home world from the Xenos, after the Tau take care of the psychic plague of course. That way the Angels of Absolution appear as liberators coming to save their people, while The Unforgiven quietly get an uncomfortable nuisance out of the way. The Inquisition, if they investigate at all, merely write the incident off as a random Xenos attack.

How can a group (the Dark Angels inner circle) that has kept a huge secret for ten thousand years hand out pieces of equipment with their logo on it?
I would expect them to not only have stocks of all their gear without color or insignia, but also to have other people's gear (loyal and traitor) in case they need to leave false evidence. When the Angels of Absolution looked at that skull, it should have been autographed, "I am Alpharius."

The question if some of the full Primaris Chapter don't know about the fallen, how fast would they run to Guilliman.
They would be sprinting to snitch to one of the Emperor's Living Sons without hesitation. "Hey Guilliman, one your Brothers original Chapters has traitors in its leadership, what do you want to do?"

I read this book and although I love everything DA this book was written showing the Darkest parts of the DA when regarding the new Primaris marines. I know the DA are very suspicious and will do whatever it takes to defeat the fallen BUT all the stuff they did to themselves made me question the writer it seemed like a lot of loop holes in their actions I.e assisting and even accepting help from the tau.
My vote? It'll come to blows and Asrael will be saved by plot armor from getting his butt handed to him in the decisive honor duel

This would be the perfect way to introduce the Lion; they engage in a civil war and the Angels of Absolution and their allies start to gain the upper hand, and then the Dark Angels awaken Lion El’Jonson and tell him of the situation. He then gets pissed and reveals himself, telling everyone to stop the fighting and unites the Dark Angels legion once again and goes on a massive hunt for the Fallen.
As a dark angel we did what was neccesary to destroy the plague.
This is super sweet. I've been putting together my first ever Space Marine chapter, and I'm going with a penal chapter made of repented Fallen who are forced to go through the Rubicon Primaris and serve their death sentence in service to the Imperium in hopes of earning forgiveness. I'm really enjoying filing off all of the imperial symbols from a bunch of Primaris models. My theory is that they work with the Ordo Chronos as they fight during the chronostrife and that the Ordo is helping the dark angels to find the fallen across time and space. it's pretty fun to put this together, and I'm enjoying it for the first time, speaking as a tyranids player.

Given that Azrael, Sammael and Belial can all command their successor chapters (hence accusations that the First Legion never really disbanded), I find such internal conflict highly unlikely.
That being said GW are wont to disregard established lore when it suits.

If any of Unforgiven Chapters go renegade I think that 1.that is highly unlikely to happen 2.if it would come to be they would be purged by Dark Angels themselves, not telling any of Unforgiven and then explain that they went rogue and then for that sin must have been destroyed. 3.Nothing happened on Caliban!!!

_My_ friends always give me that strange look when I mention Warhammer 40k. But I had a nice online discussion about how many Sith lords one would need to cause serious trouble for a chapter of Astardes just recently.
Wow that was excellent! Now a few things.... The angels of absolution going to war against the DA? Probably not the best idea for many reasons but it would make for a excellent story. It might bring the knowledge of the fallen to light and that can only end up bad for all the unforgiven.... but that said if it reached that point where it seemed civil war was inevitable wouldn’t that then be the best time for the Lion to finally come back!!!
Well...I mean is anyone really surprised? The DA have slaughtered entire planetary populations to kill one person and even attacked other loyalists to the extent of ignoring demonic invasions. They literally organized a crusade against the Space Wolves and then fucked off when Magnus showed up leaving the Space Wolves to fight a two front war against demons on one side, and fellow Imperials on the other. And they slaughtered the entire population of a moon to find one fallen, which they never found. And on the very world below Imperial Guard and several fellow marine chapters were fighting a Waaaagh! The DA never helped and fucked off again. I don't think there is a more heretical chapter.

Not that a Tau battle suit isn't a powerful weapon but you're in an unknown location while the 20 marines know the entire monastery and have access to anti dreadnought class weaponry. These are also suppose to be super human soldiers not cannon fodder like guardsmen. The fact he "escaped" is also bs. You're now a blue unarmed dude running around a fortress with dudes in power armor around every corner that just melted your battlesuit down and you don't have a map.

What I now honestly think after reading/listening to the Horus Heresy series is the Lion was just as stunned about Luther as the Emperor was at Horus...and we saw the exact same fight in PRIMARCH/MARINE scale. Make me wonder if this wasn't done by Big E on purpose. It was just supposed to happen before Battle on Vengeful Spirit...not after..or maybe it happened after to give the Lion a reason to cone back.

Not really, it was chattering idly. Think of a metronome making a steady tick like a clock. When it was close to the Librarian that was (supposedly) infected, the teeth were chattering madly.
The dangles are my least favorite chapter. In my eyes, they're all traitors not for any sins of The Fallen but due to their actions since the heresy. They've shown themselves time adn again to be unreliable and if not outright hostile then at least antagonistic towards the rest of the imperium as a whole.
ok, but a civil war that pulls in guillimen involving him learning of the fallen could also be a cool way to eventually bring about the return of Lion El Johnson, with maybe the rock itself being destroyed or something and Lion being woken up in a very, VERY bad mood.

I think they should fuck off to another part of space and just let that shit drop. Hell if I was theri chapter master and knew about The Fallen I would have been pissed about not being communicated with, but losing only a couple dozen dudes? Probably worth it. It's the GRIM darkness - not the DEEP Darkness. Revenge? No, but I think I'd ask the DA's for something in return. Some relic, some asset to balance out the loss. Hell, maybe get some XXXtra goodies from Cawl's armories - gimme a sweet sweet Astraeus x3 and call it even steven.

This. Most of the Loyalist Legions had some traitors, purged them and were honest about it. The Dark Angels? Nope, never happened. We'll keep killing our allies to hide we're killing traitors (sarcasm). Cannot wait till Johnson awakens and kills the current Dark Angels leaders, specifically Azrael.

Tau might be familiar with Blood Ravens' favorite strategy? Impossible!
I forget which Dark Angels book mentions it, but when a battle brother learns the truth of the Fallen and flips out, the Chaplain speaks code words to shutdown the brother. He then commands the brother to forget everything about it, stating that such a measure might seem extreme, but no brother will ever be allowed to betray the Chapter again. Every Dark Angel in every successor Chapter is hypno-indoctrinated by the Chaplains to obey certain High Gothic code phrases. Some phrases are known by the Inner Circle, and even the Lord Cypher knows about some of them. The Chaplains can even shutdown the Chapter Masters if necessary. I don't think the Angels of Absolution are real. I think they are a red herring bait laid by the Chaplains to convince self-doubting Fallen to turn themselves in for 'Absolution'. The Angels of Absolution are the 'Good Cop' to the Dark Angels 'Bad Cop', but no Dark Angel will ever betray the Chapter again, and the Chaplains are watching.

The AoA screaming traitor, rampaging among Worlds, Bobby G finally takes actions against the DA, learning of their secrets from the AoE themselves, caus they believe they're free of sins.
Nontheless, Bobby G can't have "his" Warriors fight each other, excummunicates the whole DA Legion (DA+successors) and slays them. Azraels Blood getting saved by a watcher in the Dark, who gets this right to Lions Chamber, the blood de-snoozes his clock and the Lion finds his not-so-dear brother slaying his Soldiers. During an epic Battle between both brothers, Cypher shows up, tabs Bobby G on the left shoulder and passing the lion sword to el Johnson on his right. Cypher gets bit**slapped by the ultra-smurf the Lion closes his eyes, focuses his inner super sayan and ends the fight in a single blow with his sword. After that he leaves to tea-party with Cypher who tells him of the Fallen Legion gatherin, the Lion takes once again control over them, founding his own Imperium of Mankind as opposed to Booby G's and we have a full fletched Civil War. *BAM* ur welcom GW for the Lore for 10th ed. 40k...

If it was a fallen follower of tzeench that caused the plague, then lying about the artefact would play right into his hands! Tzeench seems to have his eyes on the dark angels.
The only thing I don’t get is why couldn’t the dark angels tell the angles of absolution about the physic plague and Cohorio (plz correct if I got that wrong) I mean I get the unforgiven are extremely secretive about the fallen and justifiably so but the angle of absolution are also dark angle descence who have helped hunt the fallen before so couldn’t they have covertly informed them even if just the chapter master as they would probably have a considerably easier time dealing with the situation without tipping of the inquisition (and wouldn’t need to negotiate with Xenos)

The artifact proves nothing at all to anybody. In the grim dark, this thing could have been a thrice stolen doo-hickie from whenever.
1- The Dark Angels would never tell him the full truth. There is no reason to tell him the full truth, it would achieve no good.
If he knew that there were some kind of psychic plague on his world, then it might be justified. If he didn't, then it was just those pesky Tau doing what they do.
This is manufactured drama.
Azrael just tells him, "thank you" and moves on.
2- If the chapter master would consider that the Dark Angels were really trying to destroy his chapter, then they could have come in force, they would have been allowed inside, then they could have pulled a Calth and just shot the guy beside them.
3-A classicly tortured Gav Thorpe bad story.
Gav would have you believe a chapter master leaps to this nonsense conclusion which was only true due to the aforementioned "tortured storyline".
This book was a hackneyed litany of tropes and overreaches, just like Indomitus. . . a Gav special.

I get the funny feeling the girlyman already knows about the Fallen, if not from before his fall, but from the primaris opening their mouths.
So something happens and Azrael is forced to spill the beans on the Fallen, gurlyman just looks at him and chastises him like a (normal 2nd millennium) uncle would his young nephew. Like no superhuman posturing, no politicing, just "I'm not angry, just disappointed".

War of Secrets is such a weird book, as in, it doesn't make much sense. Why wouldn't the Dark Angels just inform the Angels of Absolution about the infected people on their home world, then both chapters could purge it. Why involve the Tau at all and trade places, purging each other's planets. I know the meme of Dark Angels being chaos marines, but colluding with Xenos to purge your own world is the most traitorous thing the chapter has done IMO.
But keep in mind, it wasn't done with Azrael's knowledge, seems like it was the work of some rogue chaplain acting on his own weird agenda.
