A separate room for the toilet (wc) is the best thing ever! The first time we stayed in France, we initially thought it was odd, but after 1-2 days, we were thankful for it. SO much more convenient for families and groups.
I took my first and only Disney cruise over 18 years ago, and I still remember the names of our servers- Putu from Indonesia and Alilat from Mexico. They were so utterly beyond fantastic. I remember when Mom and Dad ordered in-room breakfast for the next morning and when we woke up, the food was there. Hot items still hot, cold items still cold, and we NEVER heard them enter the room. Lol it was borderline creepy, but amazing!
Its also so strollers can go under the bed. Quite a few people will do a Disney World/Disney Crusie combo so they are lugging all the luggage from the parks, from the extended stay, and a big jogging stroller (Bobs are popular) on to the ship. Also, you can get a family of 5 in there if 1 is an infant so an absolute ton of luggage.
The largest family verandah rooms (which are larger than the room Emma was in) they can have five people. Two in the queen, one on the sofa bed, one on a pull down murphy bed from the wall, and one on a pull down bunk from the ceiling.
I love old school, cruising since 1972..Things are quite different now(progress!!?) really love the wood and the chocolates reminds me of my first trips on Holland America…ahhh nostalgia. Thanks Emma
The wood is a standard on all of the Disney Cruiseline Fleet so far. The Dream class of ships that launched in the early 2010's kept the same style of cabin's as The Magic class, though I think the Wish class will have a new style. Another carry over from the Magic Class to the Dream class was the do not disturb signs for the doors.
I asked an architect friend about the difference between a veranda and a balcony. While the terms are pretty much interchangeable there is a difference. A balcony is affixed to a main wall or structure , as in a theater. In cruise terms like the balconies on some of Carnival’s Fantasy Class ships where the balconies were added during refit and attached to the sides so they stick out. A veranda is within a structure as with today’s new build ships. The veranda is outside but doesn’t extend beyond the hull of the ship. So technically, newer ships have verandas.
Did you just prefer not to sleep with your mom? I would probably have done that... But having said that, the sofa sleeper does look rather comfortable. It looks like a pretty good room to me. Sounds as though all in all, it was a good trip and experience for you. Happy Sailing!

@@pamelawooden6012 Disney can be fun, but I do prefer going to Disney during the school season maybe mid week there’s less of a chance the kids will be out and about.
In 2019 we were in an interior cabin on the Disney Dream, and one of the fun things there was they included a "Magic Portal". This was basically a TV screen that showed the view from a camera on the side of the boat, but with a twist that occasionally animated Disney characters would make an appearance. The kids loved it, plus it could easily be turned off if you didn't want it on. Those normal Portals and windows didn't have that feature.
The “hairdryer” in the bathroom is actually not a hairdryer! It’s used to blow the mirror off so the steam will dissipate faster so you can use the mirror! 👍🏻🚢❤️
I miss towel animals on cruises these days...it was one of my favorite things (plus the classes to make them). My favorite thing about Disney rooms, are the inside cabins with the virtual windows. Yes, I know other ships have the virtual windows, but Disney has characters that show up in their windows 💕. I'm from the U.S., but I prefer nappies to diapers...it's a much cuter word.
I love the towel animals. The best have been on the Nile river cruises. On one cruise, they did one of my Mom who was with us. They waited for us to come back and see it. Priceless! 😂
As daughter, I prefer to sleep alone even if it’s the same room , so I would take the sofa bed. Unfortunately, 3 traveling together and son does not want to sleep with mother so I have no choice. Nope not sleeping on the top bunk
I sleep with my daughter or sister on trips to save money. Rooms with one queen or king bed are sometimes cheaper. I'll never understand weirdness with family members.
I’m very surprised when people wants a lot of storage in their hotel rooms (or cabin in this matter), while I appreciate hanging up maybe my suit or dress, my storage uses are often limited to the wardrobe and the fridge (if that counts). I don’t usually use the drawers. However at the end of my stay, my dad had instilled in us since young to check all the nooks and crannies for anything that we’d have forgotten before leaving the room.
Our oceanview on Carnival Dream had a regular bathroom, with sink, toilet and shower, and a second room with a little bathtub/ shower and another sink. It was handy for getting ready, with three of us in the cabin!
My first cruise on the Disney Wonder in 2007 had the beds that split. I remember Disney fans complaining a lot that they wanted storage space under the bed, though, and Disney changed to the non-splitting beds. I'm fine with either and now we just alternate the bed each night. I think the couch is quite comfortable. :)
When cruising, I highly recommend taking small plastic bins, 8x8x3 or 4” for your shower needs. If you need more for make up, take an extra one. It works great when there’s more than 1 to a room and even more so with 4 in a room. It’s a real time saver to grab your bin and head to the bathroom for a shower, etc.
The largest verandah rooms sleep 5. Two on the queen bed (which is VERY comfortable), one on the sofa bed, one on a bunk that pulls down from the ceiling, and one on a murphy bed that pulls down from the wall. The room is also 53 square feet bigger than the one Emma stayed in and has even more storage than you can believe. Of the Disney ships, the two oldest (Wonder/Magic) have the most storage. The Dream/Fantasy has less (but still very adequate), and the newest ship the Wish has virtually none.
Diaper. Though in my family we called it a "Pamper", I think its because the Pampers brand was the most popular in my area and it became the defacto name ( similar to Kleenex)
If I remember correctly, when you stay at a Disney World owned resort or hotel on property (there are 3 on property not owned by Disney but get nearly all the same perks but often at a slightly less cost or much more cost depending on the room) you come back to a towel animal every night you request the beds be made up (they don't wash the linen every day anymore to save water (yay) so you have to request to have maid service) so it makes sense to me that they'd continue to do this on the cruise line. I've also heard that at the resort and on the cruise ship... sometimes they'll incorporate stuffed toys they find in the beds and whatnot... so you might come back to a tea party or something LoL
We stayed at an off property hotel that was a Disney Partner hotel once. (Not owned by Disney, but Disney would list them on their website as a place to stay nearby) They did the towel animals and incorporated my daughter's doll as well. Although, we did notice that when we returned that the tv set would be left on a channel that was spanish. Perhaps our housekeeper was just listening to it.
Same issue with beds in the highest suite categories on many lines like RCL, Celebrity, and NCL. A high fare for the cabin and I've spent the week sleeping on the old style metal frame sofa beds or futon cushions on the floor while traveling with Dad. That's another reason why we love Princess because we've sailed in all of their suite options over the years and always could split beds.
We went on the Disney Wonder in 2009 and had split beds. We are booked on Disney in Port Carnival next March so we will check the beds. Also we always book inside cabins.
Excuse me if it was just a typo, but as someone from the area, it is Port Canaveral, NOT Port Carnival (we do take some offense at the latter). Pronounced Ca-NAV-er-al.
I’m 6’1”, and when I went on a Disney Cruise recently I was able to just barely squeeze into the shower and was able to still use it pretty well. I’d say the cutoff for the showers would be 6’2”-6’3”
A wc and lav separated from a shower and lav would be called a powder room in a USA home. They're usually on the first floor; to be used by guests at a party, family requiring one while on the first floor and not needing to go to a full bath on the second floor or further away at their bedroom, etc. The name probably comes from ladies needing to powder their noses in restaurants/night clubs in days of yore. Certainly handy for multiple people sharing a boat's cabin.
The cabin design makes sense for Disney. Most cruise line cabins are truthfully designed for 2 and they just barely make the accommodations for 3rd and 4th guests because they have to. On Disney they assume most cabins will be booked with a 3rd and/or 4th guest so they design accordingly.
My mom and I have always shared queen or larger beds in hotels and when visiting relatives. For us, we just don't really mind, but it's interesting that the cabin steward just assumed.
Another thing with Disney is the cabin size. The smallest inside staterooms will still have a separate bed and couch area, plus all the storage seen in the video. Not all cabins have the two bathrooms but many do.

Both the Disney Magic & Disney Wonder had a bed that would split. Around 2014 both ships got the tall queen beds that the new Disney Dream & Fantasy have. So all 4 Disney ships have the same size and style beds.
The cabin is built for up to 4. The parents in the Big Bed, one kid in the sofa bed and there is a bunk bed above the sofa bed for the other kid, that’s why there’s is so many cabinets too.
Hi Emma. You are so right about the sofa beds that pull out and take up so much space and have to climb over when the sofa is placed first and the bed in the rear of the cabin. Like that both bath areas have a sink. Maybe that small tub is to accommodate children. We call nappies diapers or buy the brand name such as Pampers or Huggies. That’s funny your mum put the child’s lock on the balcony door. My last cruise was before Covid 2019 and never been on one that didn’t do the animal towels. Great vid. Thanks much. See you next vid.
Emma, the sofa bed looked a bit short, not that I would need to use it but I would think a taller person like myself may have a problem with that. Towel sculptures are great fun, we once had a very artistic steward who was very creative! It was always great to see what she had made for us in the evening. Often some of our kit was incorporated into her designs. My spare glasses often became a prop too!!! 😂
The newer DCL doesn't have the old school hair dryers. Concierge is always gorgeous. We stay in the larger rooms that sleep 5 and have the bed that comes from the ceiling and a pull down next to that.
😃 Nappy!? How cute. No idea. Changing a nappy. 🤪 Yes, we change diapers. 😝🇺🇸 Love your British-isms. I live in Alaska and the British isles is a bucket list destination. ⚓️🌴 * I get to sail on Disney Wonder next month compliments of my dear friend. 😃 Enjoy your vlogs! 👍🏼
I would not have slept on a sofa bed or expect my daughter to after paying all that money I would have happily shared the bed with my daughter and would have never given it a second thought
Some hotels have those tiny baths I encountered on in Brussels years ago.I think that they are designed to be sat in and for adults rather than children? Then there is the interesting subject of German/Austrian(Lichtenstein/Switzerland too perhaps can't remember?) ledge toilets!
Thank you so much for your honest review. My son and I are planning our first cruise and he would like to choose Disney. (He's 26 but has autism so Disney still excites him.) I have watched several of your videos and I feel they have been very helpful in our planning for our very first cruise!! Thank you!!
Great review. Brought back memories about the bed configuration. I sailed on the Empress of the Seas in the Royal Suite with my sister and when we asked for the bed to be separated we were told it cannot be separated. Both of us have our own beds at our homes and this made for a restless nights sleep. To make matters worse there is no pullout bed in the suite and the sofa was curved so you couldn't sleep on it. Thanks Emma for the review.
I can't remember what ship it was, but I went on a Carnival cruise once that had a family cabin with that bathroom format. I was cruising with my mom and brother in the same cabin, so it was helpful.
Emma, glad to know this British-ism "Nappy" definition! If I say Nappy here it means I'm going to take a Nap! Definitely not changing a diaper! Lol! Very amazing on how much room your cabin had! Based on that Disney ship's tonnage I would never have guessed it had big cabins.
Veranda vs. Balcony = A Veranda is built in to a structure as in surrounded by a building (or Ship) on multiple sides were a Balcony is a platform that projects out from a building (or Ship) and is suspended.
I traveled my first five cruises with Disney. Traveling with my wife and son I never noticed the bed thing and was extremely thrilled when I took my first Royal Caribbean with my father that the bed split in half they were already set up that way I was very very happy. Both he and I are over 6 ft tall so it would be hectic trying to squeeze in.
In the US the term balcony or veranda both mean the same. Sometimes you may say my balcony or my veranda. I typically say balcony. Thanks for your great videos. You have a cheerful attitude & they are a joy to watch. Now to remember you explanations of you British words & our American words that mean the same thing. Interesting to see the toilet in a separate room with a wash basin. First time I’ve heard of that. Thanks again.
The split bathrooms is amazing and I’m not sure why more cruise lines don’t do it. The wood and carpet, and that hairdryer, give away the age of the ships though. Excited to see how the new ships are.
omg thank you for letting me know beds dont split. i was planning a Disney trip with my nephew. he is ,18 and 6 foot 4. How awkward. then id get stuck on the couch. WOW
Oh, I always thought nappy is the one made by fabric that is washable and pampers are the one use disposable ones. I would had slept with my mum since it was a big bed.
My wife and I went on an NCL Escape cruise around the Caribbean a couple years back, and they still had towel art.. in fact I had a fun competition with the steward.. coming up with my own designs. Not as good as his.. but I tried!! :-)
When I go on princess and celebrity no towel animals. But we sailed with my nieces and their 3year Olds both cabins got towel creatures so may be as needed?? Which makes sense
I've never had one with open standard doors! On my first cruise my brother was about 8 years old and he actually got the tip of his thumb slammed in the sliding balcony door and had to go to the ship's hospital and have the thumbnail removed! (it grew back and there was no permanent damage but that was so scary)
Disney gives you so much storage space, so you can put all the Disney merchandise you bought in a drawer, forget about it, and buy some more. I made that up. But that’s probably the reason
That's funny. I have always called a United States Naval (Annapolis) Academy graduate a "nappie". But really only to get them to throw a wobbly. The squids get it.
I love the decorative towels and the chocolates. I certainly do not want to see them phased out. All the hotels I stay at still do them - are cruises really phasing them out? How dreary. ~Edit~ Forgot the most important thing... 180th! 😎
I’m 71 and cruise Disney with my adult son. He’s too tall for he sofa so he gets the bed. I don’t mind the sofa bed at all. We travel with extended family and one kid sleeps in the pull-down bunk. I do bathe in the tub. My tall son usually goes to the fitness center locker room to shower, though he has used the one in the cabin.
Originally the beds on DCL did split, but there was a piece of plastic that had to be inserted to join them. If this piece was not properly inserted, the large bed was quite uncomfortable. SO, DCL at some point decided to get all new beds and make the big bed a such that it would not split. Yes, that made the big bed more comfortable, but as I find the couch bed to be less than optimal, this, along with the huge price increases on DCL became one of the reasons we don't cruise that line. It has nothing to do with luggage under the bed. The luggage fit under the bed when the bed did split. Many of the DCL features are designed for more than 2 in a cabin--the split bath, the large amount of storage, etc. Originally DCL advertised that their cabins were 30% larger than other standard cruise line cabins, but that was in 1998. Other lines have now caught up and adopted the "family" idea in cabins.
For those worried about shower height, I'm 6'4" and in those showers I just have to tilt my head a bit! Never bothered me at all, it was actually kinda fun... So if you're under 6'3" I'd say you're safe
I'll be on the Disney Dream in late 2022, but it will be a themed cruise: TCM Turner Classic Movie channel cruise. I'm a classic film lover, and cannot wait to blend the two adventures! We'll be out of Miami. Thanks Emma!
I've seen that weird three-quarter bath setup in a landside hotel I stayed at in San Diego once - not sure quite why they did it there (water shortages encouraging people to shower while still advertising a bath?) Got to admit I do like the idea of having a washbasin in a separate room from the loo - I'm no germaphobe but sometimes you definitely want to give your toothbrush some fresh air before the morning's ablutions.
In Norway we learn English in school, and the UK English is considered standard. It is also the spelling they teach us. So I was quite shocked to learn you don't even use 'diaper', because I've never heard of a 'nappie'. I would've assumed it had something to do with naps if it wasn't for this video.

Concierge is always gorgeous. We stay in the larger rooms that sleep 5 and have the bed that comes from the ceiling and a pull down next to that.
Oo, good to know! Wonder why they left them here 😂❤️
😃 Nappy!? How cute. No idea. Changing a nappy. 🤪
Yes, we change diapers. 😝🇺🇸
Love your British-isms. I live in Alaska and the British isles is a bucket list destination. ⚓️🌴
* I get to sail on Disney Wonder next month compliments of my dear friend. 😃 Enjoy your vlogs! 👍🏼
3:20 that’s called a “shub” a shower-tub as a parent of 3 I’ve seen plenty of those at family oriented places
That’s a word?! I love it!!! 😂❤️
I would not have slept on a sofa bed or expect my daughter to after paying all that money I would have happily shared the bed with my daughter and would have never given it a second thought
Some people prefer not sleeping in the bed with other people because they don’t sleep well.
@@amandadean3948 yes thats me!
We could have shared, and would have done if necessary - but not everybody would want to, so Emma needed to explore the alternative...
Some hotels have those tiny baths I encountered on in Brussels years ago.I think that they are designed to be sat in and for adults rather than children? Then there is the interesting subject of German/Austrian(Lichtenstein/Switzerland too perhaps can't remember?) ledge toilets!
Actually I like the way the sofa bed works. Probably not a great bed for a sprawler, but I like that it's footprint doesn't change.
Yeah! That was a good move by disney for sure. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Thank you so much for your honest review. My son and I are planning our first cruise and he would like to choose Disney. (He's 26 but has autism so Disney still excites him.) I have watched several of your videos and I feel they have been very helpful in our planning for our very first cruise!! Thank you!!
So glad to hear that, thank you lots ❤️😀
The split bathroom is brilliant.
Oh man! I wouldn’t like that. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
I can't remember what ship it was, but I went on a Carnival cruise once that had a family cabin with that bathroom format. I was cruising with my mom and brother in the same cabin, so it was helpful.
The smallest inside cabins Cat 11 have only one bathroom but once you go up to Cat 10 you get the split bathroom.
Super helpful info! Thank you so much
Veranda vs. Balcony = A Veranda is built in to a structure as in surrounded by a building (or Ship) on multiple sides were a Balcony is a platform that projects out from a building (or Ship) and is suspended.
Great film with some excellent information, regards, Chris.
Thanks Chris! :-)
Haha!! YES!!!!! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
I love the curtain in the cabin. Great for poor sleepers who may like to read or watch tv
The interesting videos just keep coming and coming. Exactly how many cruises did you go on.
38 😊
omg thank you for letting me know beds dont split. i was planning a Disney trip with my nephew. he is ,18 and 6 foot 4. How awkward. then id get stuck on the couch. WOW
In America we like to wash our hands after using the toilet, so it’s somehow convenient to have the sink close by, or in the same space.
The placement of the hands on that T Shirt is amusing and maybe an oversight........😀😀.
I know right 😂😂😂
Oh, I always thought nappy is the one made by fabric that is washable and pampers are the one use disposable ones. I would had slept with my mum since it was a big bed.
Even an interior cabin is quite roomy in the Magic but having a balcony is nice. 👍👍
Agreed 😀❤️
My wife and I went on an NCL Escape cruise around the Caribbean a couple years back, and they still had towel art.. in fact I had a fun competition with the steward.. coming up with my own designs. Not as good as his.. but I tried!! :-)
My husband and I were on a Seabourn cruise to Antarctica and we had a separate toilet room with sink.
Nappies are cloth and plastic are diapers in from Perth, Western Australia.
Thanks for the great video! My fam & I love Disney but will never cruise Disney.
Ha ha! Thanks Michele 😀
I love to take a good nappy and if you did sleep in the toilet i find it quite comfortable and handy!
When I go on princess and celebrity no towel animals. But we sailed with my nieces and their 3year Olds both cabins got towel creatures so may be as needed?? Which makes sense
On all the cruises I’ve been on, I’ve never had a balcony with a sliding door. They have open standard doors.
I've never had one with open standard doors! On my first cruise my brother was about 8 years old and he actually got the tip of his thumb slammed in the sliding balcony door and had to go to the ship's hospital and have the thumbnail removed! (it grew back and there was no permanent damage but that was so scary)
We call it a diaper in the USA
The beds used to split on the Magic and Wonder before their refits.
Disney gives you so much storage space, so you can put all the Disney merchandise you bought in a drawer, forget about it, and buy some more.
I made that up. But that’s probably the reason
Genius 🤣🤣🤣
In America a toilet and sink is called a half-bath. Informative, thank you.
We use nappy in Australia too!! 🇦🇺
This was very interesting!
180th! 😎
Most are yeah! I'm on a Marella cruise at the moment and they have towel animals and chocolates still :-)
@@EmmaCruises Just don't take away the chocolates! That's all I ask!!! 😀
Disney won’t stop doing them. They do them is their resort hotels too.
Emma, how did you like the Mickey Bars?
I didn’t see any mentioned anywhere, too busy eating cookies 😂
For those worried about shower height, I'm 6'4" and in those showers I just have to tilt my head a bit! Never bothered me at all, it was actually kinda fun... So if you're under 6'3" I'd say you're safe
I'll be on the Disney Dream in late 2022, but it will be a themed cruise: TCM Turner Classic Movie channel cruise. I'm a classic film lover, and cannot wait to blend the two adventures! We'll be out of Miami. Thanks Emma!
That’ll be awesome!!! Enjoy 😀❤️
Funny Walt Disney World Animal Kingdom room looked exactly the same with double and a kids sofabed
Haha! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
I've seen that weird three-quarter bath setup in a landside hotel I stayed at in San Diego once - not sure quite why they did it there (water shortages encouraging people to shower while still advertising a bath?)
Got to admit I do like the idea of having a washbasin in a separate room from the loo - I'm no germaphobe but sometimes you definitely want to give your toothbrush some fresh air before the morning's ablutions.
Regarding "balcony" vs "verandah": they are the same thing. "Verandah" is just the fancy term Disney uses to refer to a balcony.
4:35 We don't use the word Diaper at all in the UK ? We do in our family - it's my Mum's Maiden name ! 😋
OMG
In Norway we learn English in school, and the UK English is considered standard. It is also the spelling they teach us. So I was quite shocked to learn you don't even use 'diaper', because I've never heard of a 'nappie'. I would've assumed it had something to do with naps if it wasn't for this video.
Many US hotels have such mini baths as shower tray, always found them weird
Never seen it before! Strange ha ha 😅❤️
What has Boots the chemist got to do with Disney cruises ?
What? 😂😂
In Canada a nappy is known as a diaper, just like the USA lol
thank you!
