If you're trying to pass smog and have an evap leak, and your vehicle is like my truck, the evap system only checks for leaks when it's between 15-85% fuel capacity, somewhere around there. Fill your tank all the way up, clear the check engine code with a obd2 reader (you can also borrow these from most auto part stores like Oreilly's and auto zone for free, but I highly recommend at least owning a cheap one), and then drive around 50-100 miles to build up some fresh driving data. Make sure you fill up your tank if it gets too low throughout this process. After that, you'll be all set to pass smog. I'm not sure if this works for every vehicle, but it did work for my 04 Sierra. This isn't a permanent solution and I'd recommend resolving the issue for good, but if you have a pain in the ass evap leak and you need to register your vehicle this is always an option too.
You just opened my eyes bro. I çan see why anyone can get addicted to the testers and your career. I enjoyed this video because i was able to absorb the info'. Thank you.
Geez, I started the video off with not knowing a damn thing about finding pressure leaks to pass inspection, now I feel like I can be a official state vehicle inspector. Hektor, your the shit!
What's great about this is that I just had to change my purge solenoid on my 13 Escape and that is a whole big deal because it's not just a two second swap. Thing is, the part was just replaced two years ago. What was my mistake? Doorman! Replaced it with a SMP now and hopefully no more issues.
Wow carnal. I think you just solved my problem. I was keeping my eye on that part. But was hoping it was the fuel cap. Have the same car with check engine large evap leak. I’ll hit the auto store tomorrow and change those parts , reset the light drive a few miles and hope it stays off.
Hektor, I do know all the info about EVAP system but still watched this video because ur AWESOME the way u explain the problem thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas from CANADA. cheeeers
Bro I’m getting ready to change my purge can on my 07 grand Cherokee w p0455/p0456 codes also after I put the new purge can I need to drive her around for about 10 mins and do I need to disconnect the battery plugs at all b4 installing the new purge can?
Take off the purge valve, connect positive low voltage power source to the valve, blow through the valve (after cleaning it, haha) then tap the negative lead from your power source to the valve, you should feel the valve opening and closing completely.
I have Evap leak code P0440 and P0456 for dodge charger 2020 I did a smoke test and found smoke coming out from the rear wheel right side canister I change the canister with a used one But again there is a leak from the canister I have already change the purge valve and evap sensor with new one Can any share their experience if they had same issue
Hektor, the test light connected to battery power and the probe connected to PCSV ground? Likewise, vent valve, connect body to ground terminal for testing?
sir hektor, when the vehicle is running , vent vlv closed, purge vlv open taking a suction from the intake ...where do we get pressure in the gas tank when its under a partial vacuum from purge vlv being open ...????? gas tank under press. ???
whats up hektor i send you a message about my 2007 honda civic si you made a video 3 years ago I have only question you were saying the the module is not good witch one tho the abs module or the ecm/pcm module thanks man so i can get the right part
You need to know alot more than just replacing broken parts to repair a car these days. Electrical, Mechanical, computer software and hardware...etc...etc.

We need more mechanics like Hektor....
Yes we do. 🤝
Do you think it's still worth becoming a mechanic with all the EVs coming etc

A masterclass in Evap testing
Excellent video which applies to many vehicles , thanks Hektor !

Helpful! Thank you!
Love the video homie, how would you approach it, if you don't have a bidirectional scan tool? How would you energize the purge valve?
I’ll make a video on that.
Thank you Homie, I'll look forward for that. Best wishes.

What kind of scanner you have hector, brand name and where to buy?
This is a Snap-On Verus. They don’t make it anymore.
@@HomieHektor oh,so is there any other brand that worked like that? Any recommendations, will great appreciated thanks.
@@mannypogi1738 They’re all different prices but, if you’re looking for a bi directional scanner, I’d recommend to look into Autel, Launch, Topdon,
I got the same code on my 06 Sierra, and once in a while it says tighten fuel cap, wtf.
Hektor, the test light connected to battery power and the probe connected to PCSV ground? Likewise, vent valve, connect body to ground terminal for testing?
I really need to learn how to diagnose evap codes
Just send ‘em over to me. I’ll take care of it 😁
Sorry i change both purge and vent and i still have the p0455 can u help pease
That’s a cool little smoke machine , I’ll check out the link thanks Hektor !
Pays for itself on the first job 😎

Good work! Where are you located? Do you do mobile mechanic service?
I’m in Pomona, I do mobile but it depends on how far you are from me.
@@HomieHektor I'm in Ontario 91762
@@Davidperez-in7nl ok DM me on Instagram: HomieHektor with what you need done.
Why didn't you further diagnose the vehicle when the EVAP system test still showed as incomplete?
Awesome!!
🙋🏾♂️I’m the newest student to the class
So could this code also cause it to run lean? And giving a p0420 code.
whats up hektor i send you a message about my 2007 honda civic si you made a video 3 years ago I have only question you were saying the the module is not good witch one tho the abs module or the ecm/pcm module thanks man so i can get the right part
