5:17 as a kendo-ka, the words that you’re looking for to explain this is “continued readiness,” meaning; that, “you are aware of the next obstacle.” Í-shin is the preparation, the “ready state”. Mu-shin means “without-self” or, in a cultural translation, to allow instinct to take over and have what you already know be tested. Once that your mu-shin, overcomes any potential “obstacle” then does Zan-shin become necessary. It’s to display that you have Í-shin or “continued readiness.“
I am not a martial artist. I do however hold great respect and admiration for martial arts and for the philosophy which underpins the techniques and mindset of martial arts. The punch or kick becomes the technique and then is no longer a punch or kick and then is absorbed into the language of the body and mind and once more becomes a punch or a kick. I read Bruce Lee's Tao of Jeet Kun Do at a young age and although I do not claim to understand the information within fully I at least grasped the concept of a skill becoming part of the mind and learning to empty your mind when applying it. Extremely useful. Thank you for the excellent video! I hope I was able to understand!
Wonderful. This is a fantastic explanation of this very important philosophy. Thanks for including the kanji and combining Chinese and Japanese influences. 😊Kids: this was done well. This teacher is doing us right!
Well the mushin is some thing that brings out your instinct. You dont think when you strike, your body auto strikes. Like when you are gasping for breath,no matter how hard you try you will auto breath.its kinda like that

This video was very insightful on the proper state of mind before, during and after a fight, battle or confrontation. I love this video.
Not a subject you would hear in a Mc Dojo , very serious subject matter and martial arts concepts.
This is good. Balancing the three states in mind. Thank you.
This is a good philosophical part of martial arts. Thanks for this. I can now explain and understand this better when I teach it to others.
