WATCH OUT FOR THESE COMMON HOUSE PLANT MISTAKES
1. Watering too often.
-If you are watering on a schedule it’s time to ditch it! The fastest way to see if you need to water is sticking your finger in the soil. If the soil is dry, time to water. You can also do the lift test. If the pot is light, you need to water. Or purchase a soil meter (although they are not 100% reliable!) Please research each plants watering needs, as some might like to dry out more than others before it’s next watering!
2. Inadequate lighting.
-If your plant is not getting enough light, it may slow down on new growth, put out smaller leaves or stop growing completely. Your plant may grow “leggy” while it’s reaching for the sun. Or stay wet for far too long. On the other hand, if your plant is getting too much light the leaves may start fading or have burns marks. They could also start crisping up or even dropping to “hide from the sun”
3. Unnecessary repotting.
-Our plants don’t need repotting as much as we think. Some only like being repotted once every year or more! And repotting can be stressful on the plants roots and sometimes more bad than good. Only repot if you know your plant truly needs it!

I’m in South Florida. This plant absolutely loves worm castings. Turned the leaves dark green. All my heliconias are in direct sun for 3-6 hours. No burning. They are watered daily and fed monthly. Been blooming for 10 months so far. One time (and I’m going to do this again) I boiled sea kelp in 5 quarts of water, let it cool and fed it to the plant. WOW it did wonders. These plants - nitrogen.
They are invasive. Be careful. They are popping up over 100 ft away in the lawn. Landscapers mow them. Low maintenance plants.

yes my container is completely packed now …flowering a lot..yes I was quite confused earlier…so I had kept them in indirect light ..I did notices the leaves started to get pale …it’s needs to be acclimated before putting in direct sun I did that and the leaves did get dark like you mentioned they love sun.yes have been adding waste tea leaves looks like they love it 😊

oh no ..yes repot …if the temperature is not too hot and if it’s raining it’s the right time …use a lose porous well draining soil mix …don’t add fertiliser right away after a month …as they prefer organic rich soil ….afte a month if you have waste tea leaves use that at after washing it properly…you can even add compost or vermicompost as well ☺️🪴
