    Good job,
    I was replacing carpet in my 1986 5th wheel, accidentally arcked my converter with a screwdriver and now it has a loud buzz, need to replace it with a newer version and wasn't exactly sure how to go about it, you gave me a great understanding of how i could do it, i do alot of electrical work in houses so i have a good understanding of how to wire most outlets, switches etc., thank's man you couldn't know how much i appreciate your video, best of luck to y'all.

    Thanks for the video ! Very well done IMO. I just received a new WFCO converter today and just came in from the trailer to look for videos and found yours. Mine was supposed to be a "drop in" replacement, LOL. I was thrown when I saw a "plug in" cord on my unit and had visions of having to cut it off and wire it up. I like your way better because it keeps the new unit intact. Looking forward to more videos!

      @@GallionAdventures I think I you might be refering to the inverter. The converter just charges your batteries where the inverter allows you to take the 12v battery power and invert it to 110 outlet power. We changed our converter to a 55amp. Was only a 30amp stock. But we do have a 1000w inverter. 3000w would be ideal though.

    I think those tabs have the purpose of ensuring airspace around the unit due to heat given off. So make sure your mod allows for that. Like putting holes in that plastic case to allow for air movement. I’m no expert in that area so you may want to talk with one to find out. Anyway good on you for tackling those fixes. Safe travels.

    Thanks for the video. We have a 2012 Aerolite 28 Travel Trailer that has exactly the same breaker/fuse/converter plastic enclosure. We dry camp and the old converter is just not charging the batteries well with the generator running. I am planning on replacing it with a PowerMax PM3 and this has been a great help.

    One Q: if you rewatch this, you said your black was Hot, White was ground, and Green was common. Then connected black to brass (yes), White to silver, (No), and green to green screw( no also, beca that is the GROUND screw) did you correct that off camera? Thanks.

    So am i getting this right? --> You are plugging the converter into a outlet, but the power distribution box is connected to what exactly?

    • @MountainTopHomestead316
      @MountainTopHomestead316  4 роки тому +1

      Hey there, that outlet is coming from the fuse panel which is in turn connected to the 30 amp plug for power. Power runs through the plug, through the fuse panel, and into the outlet that the converter is connected to. this then converts the 110 power into 12v power and sends it to the batteries and charges them.

  • @mtwofeathers
    @mtwofeathers 2 роки тому +1

    Bend the tabs up to gain that extra space. Or just cut to slots to the rear of the box.

    How did you know how many amps to buy the new converter?

    • @MountainTopHomestead316
      @MountainTopHomestead316  10 місяців тому

      Allot of different YT videos out there on that. The amps basically determin how fast it will charge the RV battery, not much else.

  • @apocolypse11
    @apocolypse11 4 роки тому +1

    Cotek, Xantrex quality converters. Remember folks match the amps to the size of your battery bank. 430ah battery bank would required 43 charging amps.

    Hello. How do I know which converter I should get to replace the old one? I have been trying to look up the part number but I think it’s so old it has been replaced with a newer version? Does it matter which one I get or just as long as I match the amps/watts/voltage? Such as 30amp plug 12 volt batteries and so I need a 3600 watt converter?

    • @MountainTopHomestead316

    I have an older model Mallard camper trailer. Recently it started having an issue where if I run the a/c with any interior lights on the camper loses all power within 2 or 3 minutes. It then seems to reset and comes back on after a few minutes. I can run the a/c, including a plug in fan, with no issue but the problem returns as soon as lights are turned on. None of the breakers are tripped and I’m getting power by plugging the camper into an on site power pole. A friend suggested it may be the converter going bad. Any ideas??
