I remember watching this around 15 years ago and today I randomly recalled it! What a hidden gem! Still very fresh and very musical. Way ahead of its time!
Thanks! I found that using a strap drive instead of chain drive helps keep the pedals in sync with the movement of the beaters without the extra sound of the pedals flopping around. Spring tension is medium and the tempo help assure that I get a clean stroke. In the beginning I was getting dead strokes, but with alot of practice and some tweeking of the pedals, I was able to perfect it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks. I am glad you enjoyed it. 1) The marching drum is held by a regular snare stand. I spread the legs all the way out, turned the basket 90 degrees, and really tighten the tension on the basket to hold the drum. 2) It is an X-Hat holding the high hats closed. I then turn it 90 degrees and use a hard plastic beater to get the attack. All of the pedals are velcroed down so they won't move. Check out the new videos that are on the way!
This is the kind of independence I dream of. Hopefully if I work hard I'll be able to achieve something similar in some years. Incredible video, I love how you can do all these multipedal orchestrations and make them groove!
@soundmind529 Thank you for the kind words. Alot of practice to get to this level. It is a Premier Artist Birch. I have everything marked to easy tear down and set up. But it still take an hour for both. The kit doesn't move much. Check out some of my performances from the Cape Breton Drum Fest. That kit was a Mapex and had some extras on it. Thanks again and enjoy!
@NikeDrums Thank you very much for your comment. I have always tried to make music with my drum set. My advanced set up allows me to do just that. Check out some of my other videos from the Cape Breton Drum Festival. I play "Ticket to Ride" from the Beatles along with some solos. Enjoy!
Yes, but with some slight changes. I use a ride cymbal all the way to the left. Look at some of my videos from The Cape Breton Drum Fest. You can see my set-up from one of the camera angles.
Great playing! God I want to play that kit! Man, I would love to see what Lang or Donati could do on it though.. BTW sick polymetric groove at about 4:00
The pedals are not attached to the snare drum in any way. The key is to have a pedal with a solid foot plate like the Pearl Eliminator and stick velcro (the hook side) on the bottom of the foot plate. Make sure you use a carpet that can grip velcro, like burber or industrial carpet. A pile or shag carpet won't work. It's that easy.
I damn near spilled my soda when I seen you play, GOOD LORD Man, you are incredible. I'm a BASS guitar player, (Steinberger) And you have me speechless. @.0 And don't even try to bend my brain around those stick flips.... Was wondering, I am planning on getting a beginner drum kit and thinking of the electronic pad ones, cause I like with close neighbors... any suggestions?
hi! yes I already knew you use Sabian... I would like to know the series of each cymbals you are using and the cymbal name and sizes and all that beacuase you re one of my influences and I would like to have that sound! Thanks!
This is more impressive than I can tell you, I thought Thomas Lang had all the feet independence leaving us all with none, thank you. I felt starved of good drumming lately.

i love minneman esc drumming! i think it'd be cool if you did some classic rock songs with this unique setup.
Yes, but with some slight changes. I use a ride cymbal all the way to the left. Look at some of my videos from The Cape Breton Drum Fest. You can see my set-up from one of the camera angles.
holy crap on the double bass groove at 7:56! metal dude, freakin metal.
I use 14", 16", and 18" Studio Crashes. They came as a set so they are sonically matched. Thanks for watching.
I just put it in a regular snare stand, spread the legs all the way out and turned the snare to 90 degree angle. Thanks for watching.

It gives that great techno sound without using electronics
