There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge. Thank you, gentlemen. Can someone please provide links to the four court cases, as I wish to review them. I knew of a couple, remembered them from a law class, but am interested in the loyalty oath case.

Excellent discussion. I feel like autodidacts have the advantage. The world at your fingertips. However, visiting academia is fulfilling. There are people who are as enthusiastic as you. Somehow, a degree has come semi-circle. Trades used to be the dismissed. Now if you are a quality tradesman and salesman, you can make more than an ivy league grad easily. Meanwhile a college degree limits your options to some extent in an environment where there is so much expendability because everyone can do it to a greater or lesser extent. Exceptions abound who are the ones in the right place at the right time with the right relationships and or any of them.
Greg, what universities have College Student Development and Administration Masters and PhD programs? I am aware of the University of Wisconsin La Crosse, but where are these institutions, is there a list? It's one thing to study Jung, Kohlberg, and Chickering as development theory. It's quite another to study Kendi and DiAngelo.
I may be paraphrasing, but the statement that: "the most important thing is... _'awe and doubt'_ " is a beautiful summary of the human condition. It captures the essence of humanity, both spiritual and rational. You should have both, they both reflect deep feelings we all have, but they are in opposition, and we should all feel that tension. Science could be described as the _religion of doubt._ The only fundamental truth is doubt of any truth. No individual is capable of establishing objective truth. Science is a community that follows not-obviously-false ideas. In the end, we can feel awe and love, and take it to our heart, but not make shallow claims that our feelings are universal. Inside, the awe dominates, but outside the doubt must reign supreme.

It is quite saddening to hear about this situation in modern western societies, being from the UK this doesn't seem as prominent but of course I am aware this is still very strongly apparent here too. But I'm always thankful to Lawrence and his many amazing guests helping to spread free education, humility and rational thought across the world.
@@KeelanJon I'm thinking it was a sarcastic way of stating that they disagree and it is actually as prevalent here in the UK. I, as another UK individual, would agree with the sarcastic remark. Although I probably would have chosen a less condescending way to disagree. Something more like this; The Tory party seem to have forgotten the "conservatory" origin of their name and adopted diversity inclusion and equity measures as a matter of policy. The education department are also being taken to court regarding their "far left" educational "teachings" that seem to have crept into schools. It would seem the "mind virus" of "postmodernism" seems to have infected the political system of the UK as well. Just have a look at the things Jeremy Hunt has been saying and the "backlash" at his diversity and inclusion "spending" For an example of "cancel culture", Graham Linehan.
Are you addressing the behavior of the former president, now that you’ve entered the political fray as well as members of Congress? They’re powerful too.
As an emigrant from the US, it’s clear that US culture and institutions are thoroughly diseased by Dishonesty, Inauthenticity, Insecurity, Cowardice, and micro Power-Trips. These viruses are highly corrosive and dangerous. People who stay and resist and reform, as Lukianoff does, are admirable.
Thank you both Greg and Lawrence for sharing your time and work, peace

Then why didn't that jew go back to Russia?
@yuntakukai1002 The irony of your disgusting response almost makes it funny. Sure does sum up the state of America right now. Almost a fascist state.

01:35:10 To be fair, the only books the right want banned are specific to the location and topic ,namely books aimed at children.
Thank you. At least some are still sane.

Love the work Greg is doing. Absolutely awesome.

The head tracking is dizzying, while cool it needs better settings. Thanks!
Is this a function of Apple Center Stage? It's a little annoying, for sure.
Universities have become like the movie animal house except admin is the animal

Very interesting discussion.
I like how the camera tries so hard to give us a better view of Lawrence's magnificent shiny calvity.

God Lawrence likes to talk too much. Brutal.
God, this is idiotic.

Unfortunately, a lot of the things mentioned here are also problems in Canada, the UK, and to some extent, other parts of Western Europe.
