Today, FIRE President and CEO Greg Lukianoff testified before the House Judiciary Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government on the risk artificial intelligence and its regulation poses to freedom of speech and knowledge-creation.
As Greg said during his testimony, emerging technologies often raise questions about the First Amendment’s application. But First Amendment principles are timeless. And as FIRE has learned over the past 25 years, it’s important to fight government attempts to regulate new technologies in a way that restricts free speech rights and access to information.

Great testimony today! Lee Fang was also very good. He's done great work exposing these nightmarish trends. Thank you for filling the gap the ACLU so disgustingly abandoned.

Greg is an American hero, his work at FIRE and his deeply nuanced understanding of the issues of free speech and expression and the challenges presented by AI training bias, regulatory capture and it’s potential use by authoritarians needs to reach a broader audience. Happy to support his efforts! Donate to FIRE, they are doing the work.

Yes!!! Ive noticed chat gpt misknowledge. it is only as accurate as the will of the person who programmed it wants it to be. chat gpt has almost a default bias toward certain topics relating to history and government.

should make it ethical if you want it useable. stop scraping data from unwilling participants- I will not let my text and art be fed to a nonsapient gremlin who can synthesize it into art owned someone else if I can at all help it, and I will vote accordingly. I am not convinced by the comparison to the printing press, and don't find it a very gokd analogy.
